Comments:Am getting consumed (or more so) with Stoppard as of late. Was on set and a fellow guest star showed me his pal among the cast of 'Coast of Utopia'. He said Crudup and Stoppard just consumed all the rehearsal time with the nuance/ collateral meanings of all the lines. Not surprised. Utopia, indeed.
Nonetheless, was wondering what you've heard of the production as a lover of all things Tom.
Am debating making the east coast trek for the marathon possibly. May do the 'Living Room' reading of it myself with friends.
Stumbled back upon him after some time with the curiosity of how the ol' bugger pulled off writing one his first plays in verse. Someting I'm toying with...
I've really spiralled here, anyway, musing aloud as it were.
Thanks for the site.

Comments:I've written a novel due to be published as an ebook this summer. (Please see: www.fatcatpress.com/indexa.html. Note the 'a' in the URL.) An agent (Robert Stephenson of Altair) is waiting on the final copyedited version to send it to traditional houses.

I need blurbs from anybody I can get them from but I don't know anybody associated with science fiction / fantasy to ask. Matt Morris, a poet, has already submitted one: "A darkly weird, weirdly dark, metaphysical romp into the impossible, RARITY FROM THE HOLLOW disturbs and delights at each absurd twist."

Matt Morris, author of NEARING NARCOMA, winner of the 2003 Main Street Rag Poetry Book Award

William Devault, another poet, is writing one; and Leonard Adkins, an author of several hiking books is writing a blurb about taking my novel on the trail.

Attached is a one-page synopsis. If it's okay with the copyeditor, I can send my novel to you if you are willing to check it out for the purpose of writing a blurb; or, to refer me to someone who may be willing. Also attached is a small sample to give you a feel. (I don't think she'd mind a sample.) Or, what is the protocol in this situation to request a review? Should it come from me or the publisher? It is more sociological than hard science and should be fun if you can free up a couple of evenings. I have no money to pay (sorry). Please feel free to comment if you have any other recommendations. Feel free to forward this email to anybody you think would be helpful. As you can tell, I'm a novice to marketing fiction.

Thanks,

Robert Eggleton

I noticed you wrote a paper on Nabokov in college. I just finished reading my first Nabokov novel. No it wasn't Lolita, but only because it wasn't available; two weeks overdue as of today. So I had to settle for "Look at all the Harlequins". I found it to be engaging and sad. The pain of watching ones daughter grow up, fall in love with the "wrong man", and then fall ill was delicious and so was the parade of wives. He is trully eloquent. However a friend tells me of an article in the NY Times about a recent controversy over the originality of the Lolita plot.

Anyhow I read your review in the Sunday Chronicle yesterday and made a mental note to have a poke around on the web for your name.

I wanted to mention that Charlie Stross is one of my more recent indulgences and "Atrocitiy Archive" looks like another readable piece. I found it difficult to get through "Singularity Sky" prefering his shorter stories such as Halo (excellent). I've actually emailed the ol'chap a few times. He's a bit crusty but warms up to one if one is reasonably smart, takes the time to read his webpages, and of course a little flattery never hurts either.

If that's not enough I too attempt to write science fiction. Being a member of the webgroup critters has been an excellent way of developing my craft at critiquing more so than my craft of creative writing. It'll do for now. My main complaint is that there just aren't enough SF groups in the Bay Area though.

Well that's all for now time to track down a copy of "The Birth of the Queen of Chess" or failing that plug in a copy of "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead"

Thanks for letting me blather

Sincerely
Michael R. Anderson

Comments:arcadia will be at theatreworks in so bay in june. I think stoppard was playwright in residence at san diego state univ in early-mid 80's; i think he wrote something that was performed there with a really silly title that sounded like a Dr Suess book, so i didn't realize what/who it was till it was over. Mr Migilicuddy's Teatime or something. ever heard of it? not in cv

The dogs were in the need for some bonding (actually they wanted out) and they know I'm the only one who would get up for them. With that done I saw the chance to get on the net without any complications or background noise and thus I'm sitting here mindlessly surfing new and past visited sites. This happens to be a return visit, but well worth my time. Matter of fact I'm sure I'll find my way back here again since I've marked it on the favorite list.

Before moving on I think I'll get some coffee and look around some more. Feel free to stop by mine. If you make it that far let me know what you think.

adding a brief bibliography of print (booklength) studies of
Stoppard and his plays either to your page on _Arcadia_ or
