I'm related to William Franklin Smith, of Company H, who died 7/1/1863 on the first day of Gettysburg. I have a much better idea of what happened to him now. Thanks for all your work!

Writing a book based on my g,g grandfather William Whitlock, 188th NY, letters to his wife. He was killed on Feb 6, 1865 at Hatcher's Run. Interested in stories of Confederate soldiers who might have been shooting at him. Great website!

Pvt. William Calvin Wammack, Tippah Co, MS, Co F, 2nd Mississippi was my 2g grandfather. Thank you for the work you've done on the history of this unit. A widower with one child, Cal Wammack returned from the war, married again, and raised 9 children. He was an uneducated man, but worked hard, amassed a large amount of property, and was well-respected in his community.

My GGgrand Uncle was C.F Dry who was a Private in Co. B of the 2nd Mississippi. He obtained Measles after enlisting in !861 and was furloghed. He then rejoined the 2nd in 1862 and was sent to reinforce Stonewall Jackson's men at GainesMill. He was wounded at Gaines Mill and had his right leg amputated as a result. He was then furloughed and spent time healing with his Uncle Martin Dry in Concord North Carolina and then in 1863 was sent home to Tishomingo County Mississippi. Just some interesting tidbits to supply background about a brave hero of the South who served in Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia.

//Margaret Very interesting site. I am looking for information about a brother of my g-g-grandfather. He was killed at Yorktown. He was in Company F, 2nd Battalion, MS Infantry--Pvt. Samuel Edward Winters, about 17 or 18 when killed. Supposedly, he is buried in an umarked grave in Yorktown. But there is no mention of Confederates other than about 10 Confederates being buried in the national cemetery along with Union soldiers. Do you have any info about where these unmarked graves might be? |
