Comments: Thank you so much for the effort in creating the Pompeii website. I teach at Gethsemane Lutheran School in Maplewood, Minnesota and it is a great resource for my ancient world history class. I love that it is family friendly and has a Christian perspective. I try to teach all my classes with a Godly focus and this website is very helpful.

Comments: Thank you so much for creating this website. I enjoyed looking at the pictures and learning more about Pompeii which I have heard of all my life but never understood exactly what happened. Your end comment was very touching and profound. I recently read in a book a brief comment about what happened to these people and it prompted me to research and find out more. This is how I came upon your website and I am so glad I did. Another thing we need to remember is that these poor people were forever halted from moving into the next day of their lives. This is important to remember for people like me (and I'm sure I'm not alone) that are going through a very painful time. We need to move forward with God and not be stuck in our past. I won't preach -- just wanted to say thanks!

Comments: What a wonderful site you have created, very informative, a step back in time and a valuable history lesson. I have just returned on 10.10.11 from the Amalfi coast after a weeks wonderful holiday. Unfortunately we ran out of time, and i was disappointed that we didn`t get to Pompeii. Now after finding your website i feel i have a little more knowledge and understanding. though this isn`t in anyway a replacement for seeing Pompeii with my own eyes, it has made me stop in my track of life and i could not begin to imagine the devastation this eruption caused. I appreciate what your website has shown me, and if one day i`m lucky enough to return, i will definately visit Pompeii for myself. As you say at the end ` live every day as if its your last, and treat people with kindness` Now that i CAN do!!! Many many thanks , Di Dredger.

The one website that I looked at before this did not give nearly as much information as you have... but definitely revealed much of the perversion in the city (not something I could use for home school).
Thank you so much for taking the time and putting so much effort to give so much information. I love the way you tie in scripture and relation of lifestyle for believers of the early church. Your effort is very appreciated.

Comments: Dear Cole Family,

This was a wonderful "Virtual Tour" of Pompeii. I wanted to see some pictures of Pompeii because I am currently reading a novel (On th 5th Day by A.J. Hartley) which follows the lead character as he tours Pompeii and Herculaneum. Thanks to your tour/photos I was able to actually view some of the sites that the character was seeing/describing in the novel.

I've really come to love the internet to see places or artwork or other items that are described in some of the novels that I read. Your "Virtual Tour" was incredibly helpful to me. For example the "Beware of Dog" was described, and I was able to actually see it on your site. And it is awesome/daunting/sad to realize that those poor people who died there were so much like people today - (I mean I also have a "Beware of Dog" sign in front of my house.)

Thank you so much!!

Respectfully,

I'd love to share with my friends on Facebook, is there a link? If there is I haven't seen one. Thank you so much for the history lesson.

sometimes a simple writing to the perspective rights holder may work (also check out creative commons). your non-profit website would definitely pass for the pix owners to let you use it for free.

I started reading more on your pages, and sat for the entire afternoon reading your online journal of your time in Italy. So many parts brought back memories and made me cry. I'm a military wife and we spent 4 years in Germany in the late '90's. No, not everything was the same, but reading your accounts of feeling a bit lonely, and longing for things like round doorknobs. :) Well, I wish I could dig up my letters and emails to home from our time.
We are also Christians. It was really neat to have the references to Scripture at the bottom of the Pompeii photos. Thanks for doing this!

Just tracking down our GASS family line and appreciate the information you share.

We are connected to Samuel Gass b.1756 PA who died 1827 in Franklin Co, TN. Milton Gass who was born 1811 in Franklin Co TN is my husband's G-G-Grandfather.

In Milton's son Andrew Gass' Civil War papers, he says that Samuel is his Great Grandfather - but we don't have proof which of Samuel's sons was Milton Gass' father - some think it was Samuel's son John (m. to Tamar Cheeny).
We may never know, but we try to sort out the pieces.

Cole's who were the first white family to settle in what is now Forest City, Iowa in 1855. They came from Indiana (Geneva area) and before that from Ohio where his father Shadrack Cole died at a young age. Before that Bedford, PA and before that Baltimore where the first of our line arrived in 1649 I believe. Any of that sound familiar?

My wife, Victoria, and I were both corpsman stationed at the NRMC Naples from February 1982 until February 1984 - She worked the fourth floor until our son was born in June 1983, while I worked in patient affairs. You mention in one of your letters of going to Dr. Hall's house for dinner - Dr. Hall delivered my son.
Thank you and God bless

I am a Cowan by birth, yet I was shocked to find out my birth certificate in California could be amended [without any notation] to enter my stepfather's name, McCord [when legal adoption occurred]. In case your still constructing Cowan genealogy, please note that I am William Lee Cowan, the only son of William Kenneth Cowan and Harriett Marea [Isaacs] Cowan; I have no children. Comments: As someone who's ancestors were from the region, and still live there- practicing the old religion- how does the experience of Pompeii deliver any insights into the new testament of the christians?
Glad you like the place, but keep your beliefs for your own experiences, please don't impose them on the heritage of others. The political decision that brought Rome to christianity was not adopted by all- at least not privately, and many still hold older, stronger beliefs, better suited for the place in which they arose.
I am always amazed that a desert religion like christianity thrived outside it's natural homeland, but it seems to have done this by overlaying and adopting existing practices, or simply by conquest.

Can you recommend an area or place to stay that's easily accessible to Pompeii? Thanks!

Comments: Hello, I live in Ohio and am considering booking a pilgrimage to Italy this autumn which does not include Pompeii. But it does include Rome, with one "free" day there, and so I went online to see about tours to Pompeii, a city which has fascinated me since I was a child. That's how I stumbled on your website, which is very, very well-done. (No surprise to see that you are a physician, not that all doctors can write!) I don't have time to digest it all tonight, but I will return. Meanwhile, do you know anything about one-day trips between Rome and Pompeii? Thanks so much, Lynette

I have been reading & re-reading your site once I stumbled upon after receiving my PCS orders to Naples last May. Your "letters home" were a wonderful way to learn what to expect upon my family's arrival! We could feel your ups & downs of living overseas.

After coming back to your site again this past week, I was looking at the pictures posted in your letters and have determined that we are living next door (to the south) to where your family had stayed while here!

I will continue to return to your site & letters to assist my family & I in making the most of our time here.

Thanks!
