Help! I had a friend that used to tell about Clarence Conshon (not sure about the spelling) the Easter Pig (cajun) that brought easter eggs instead of the bunny. She grew up in Gulf Shores and went to New Orleans alot. She has passed away and I was wondering if you knew anything about The Easter Pig? Thanks

Hi Clay, thanks for stopping by! Small world, part of my family comes by way of Rayville...the Ray part of my family. Yes, THAT Ray family. : ) As for the special message, yes, it changes with each visitor's location. I think it's a nice welcome and maybe a little bit of a shock to some. LOL Happy Holidays Clay!

Hi. My name's Clay and I'm a Louisiana native - born in Rayville, eventually moved to Monroe - living in the northeastern part of Germany. Imagine my surprise when I saw "I'd like to send a special welcome to our visitors from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern", since that happens to be the state I live in at present. Is that something that changes according to the location of the guest? P.S. Can you imagine what it's like living on a continent full of Bush-bashers? Constant yuck! ;-)

NEW ROADS PLANS BIG MARDI GRAS 2003 By: Brian J. Costello In keeping with the high quality of parades and throws which have marked the past few years, the charming little Creole town of New Roads - located just 35 minutes northwest of Baton Rouge on Louisiana Highway 1 and beautiful False River - is gearing up for an even bigger and better Mardi Gras 2003! Mardi Gras falls on March 4 in 2003, and New Roads will again host two of the state's oldest, largest and most popular family-oriented parades. Kicking off the festivities will be the 81st annual Community Center Carnival Club parade at 11 a.m., the state's oldest Carnival parade outside New Orleans and one of the oldest African-American celebrations in the nation. This parade features approximately 24 floats, great throws, and a fine selection of high-stepping marching bands, drill units, dance teams and resplendent royalty. At 1:30 p.m., the 60th annual New Roads Lions Club parade will roll with the theme "Les Fetes de la Louisiane" with 30 floats, seven marching bands, three drill units, glittering royalty and superkrewe-quality throws including go-cups, small toys, and LONG, LONG necklaces of beads. The Lions parade is followed by a $1,000 cash drawing, proceeds of which help the club's ongoing charitable projects. The New Roads Lions parade was the first known Carnival parade to roll for charity, and the 2003 proceeds are earmarked for youth educational projects. A great aspect of New Roads' two parades is that participation is open to the general public, with area schools, churches, clubs and families building the floats fresh each year and entering them in competition for prizes. Both of New Roads' parades follow a circular route through this neat little town, offering parade-goers the unique opportunity of catching each parade twice. Plenty of off-street parking is locating adjacent to the parade route, as are midway rides and a host of booths selling fabulous local cuisine. Persons or groups interested in entering floats or other units in the Lions Club parade asked to contact Lion Stephen Jewell at 225-638-3311. Vendors interested in selling concessions or souvenirs on Mardi Gras are asked to contact Lion Dennis Niland at 225-638-4255. Thank you, Brian Costello, chairman New Roads Lions Carnival email: bjcpca@bellsouth.net
