Comments:Hey everyone. I am older now but encourage everyone to use their brace - visible or not - as young as possible. your body will adjust and though it is uncomfortable at first, you get used to it. I've had the rods and screws too and surgery did wonders for me. 15 years ago they said I would probably walk for only 2 more years - do everything possible NOW because it will make a difference later in life. Best of luck to you all.

He has a rod in his back, and a bit more medical problems. Actually, speaking of more medical problems, I might have Hypoglycemia. My doctor is going to run a test on me for that. Im sure I have it better off than others...

Comments:i hate to tell everybody this but bracing and surgery dont work im 11 and i was diagnosed about two weeks ago. bracing tries to force the spine into a place there's no room for. and then surgery not good within like 20 years the rod breaks or becomes infected.
so when i was diagnosed with scoliousis my mom researched and found the clear institute and they give you exercises and every person that's gone there has improved, but how much you improve is based on how much you put into it. They do exercises and it's hard work and you also have to do the exercises they give you to do at home because there's only so much a doctor can do.
im scheduled to go for the two week intensive in october and it'll be hard work but this is serious and i'm willing to do watever it takes.
This is something that can affect me for the rest of my life but i'm not gonna let it.
you may be thinking she's crazy the doctor's know what they're talking about but no they dont research it and you'll see that i am right and scolious will not affect me.

I am doing just great and belive it or not, I will be getting my permit in just five months! I now have a little sister and twin brothers. My life is great. I am going to high school, I have tons of friends, and even a great boyfriend! There are no surgeries in my future and My back is mostly straight. Alot better than it used to be. It hasn't hurt since maybe three months ago (Despise of the weather). My advice to everone that is going through rough times is to keep God first and to always be optimistic no matter how hard your life seems and you will be amazed at what you can acomplish and how far you can go!

i got told to have great posture and drink lots of water

i'm getting a new bed too. I was told it was due to breaking my leg when i was 8. I am now 16
the leg was my right one and therefore all my body weight went to my left, at a critical growing period on crutches. So that's why i have it. Don't be sad atleast you are healthy, alive, warm and fed :D

Comments:So the school nurse told me when I was eight that I had accute scoliousis. It's been 10 years now and every time I go to the doctor they tell me that I don't need surgery. However, there is little room between my shoulder blades and my spine and my back always gets the worse knots in it. I work food service and it makes it hurt even more, everyday. I know that in the past year it has gotten severely worse but if I get surgery and can't work then I will have no where to live. So I deal with it and one day I hope I can get the surgery. Most people that know me probably think its a joke so I don't even complain about it anymore. I think that people that don't have scoli are really lucky and they have no idea the pain that it really causes.

Comments:hey im maddy i was diagnosed with scoli two years ago my curve at the top was 75 and my bottom curve im not sure they operated on my top curve and put to metal rods in for my bone to graft arounf but the didnt touch the lower spinal area in my back. recently my back as been hurting alot and my docters say its likely the rods have bent, which is why it hurts alot. scoli was a HUGE change in my life and it sort of helped me to understand things better.
Before my operation I was rushed to hospital a few time becaue my ribs were closing in on my heart and i started getting short of breath alot. so I had to stop doing all my sports. Scoli sucks and its really changed me and i admire anyone who has it because its really tough to deal with.

I also have SCOLIOUSIS...
and it's really hard for me to live with this.
Not to be religious, but I guess this was how God
planned my life to be.
My scoliousis is 36 degree, and I've been going
to Chiropratics to help me.
I don't know what to do right now,
I've been sent to the Emergancy once, out of
an Anxiety Attack, and right to my heart.
It's been really hard for me, and coming onto this site
I hope that I'll be making new friends,
that also has what I have.

It would be like a summer retreat for anyone affected by the condition that just wants to be around other people like them and just be themselves and have fun. If you know of any groups out there like this, or have any suggestions on what you would want in such a camp, please let me know! This is a new idea, but we would really like to see it come to life in the future. Thanks!

I went to the doctors and he has me in it for 12 hours, so I only sleep in it now, but before I had to wear it 20 hours. I have been able to live my life the way I want to, but I can't wait to get rid of it. The first year was hard for me becuase I was entering my first year of high school and I had to wear this plastic thing that sticks out whenever I leaned forward. I am kno okay with it, but I still can't wait to not have to wear it. If anyone wants to talk about wearing the brace or anything, just email me socertwete@aol.com

Comments:Hey,It's me again.I've sined the dreambook twice before.Well I've told you that I have osteoporosis and am on Fosamax.Well,I went to the doctor and he said that the Fosamax wasn't working so,I have to go to the hospital once a month to get another medicine called Pamidranate. It seems to be working and I am growing.Well I am now 12 years old and I have had the spinal surgery that I told you about in one of the stories before. So I'll tell you what happend. We got there at about six a 'clock'.We met my grandmothers and one of my grandfathers at the hospital, checked in,and waited. Then the nurse called me in and I changed clothes and the doctor talked to me and my family. Then, they gave me this medicine that relaxes you so you're not so worried or scared about anything.Thirty minutes later,I was in the O.R (Operating Room).I don't remember going in though. It was probably the medincine. Anyway,it's called a spinal fuisin were they put stainless steel rod throughout the whole length of my spine (from the top of my neck to the bottom of my spine)and use extra bone from a bone bank to fuise some together.I stayed in the hospital from Nov.28-Dec.7(10 days).I wasn't that bored actually either.Alot of people came to see me,I went to the Atrium (the playroom) and played games. Also, one day,my mom and I went to the atrium and she painted me a welcome picture to put on my door, and a professional wrestler named Shelton Benjamin came to the hospital so I went to the Atrium to see him there,I met a therapy dog named Rafter and his owner Jane, and on the last day, I was invited to a teen lunch where all the teen patients get together ,have pizza ,and talk. After that we packed up ,sined the discharge papers, and went home. They also gave me a free Gingerbreadhouse.By the time we got home, the people who put up my hospital bed was already there and almost finish so I layed in my mom's bed untill they finished. So when I got in my bed,it wasn't comfortable so she bought a foam covering to put over the matress and I will soon be getting rid of the hospital bed and getting mine back. When I first came home I couldn't even stand up and now I am getting dresed by myself so I'm improving amd I am now doing better evey day and if you are having or already had a surgery like this, please feel free to e-mail me.

Comments:I am 11 going on 12 in October.I was dignosed with scoliosis when I was only 2 years old. Before it wasn't as bad .Now it is over 86 degrees and I will have surgery in September. It has also turned into severe scoliosis.I have never had surgery on my back before but, I have in many other places so I am not too nervous.I know i'll be just fine. Some times I think why but I knew god gave scoliosis to me for a reason. The docters wanted to wait until my growth spirt comes but my back is so bad that if I step the wrong way, my leg could pop out of joint.I'm glad they're doing the surgery now so i'll be out of so much pain.I have to take pain medication every night.Anyway,if you're going through something similar to what I'm going through don't be afraid and pray and you'll be alright. Also if you go to Camp Burnt Gin,you've probably seen me.CBG is a great camp for children with disabilities. If you are with Children's Rehabilitative Services(CRS),the Camp is free so check into it!Remember to pray, and be brave and surgery will be peice of cake.Thank you for reading my letter!

I am only 13 yrs. old and I find it hard to find clothes to wear especially when all of my friends are wearing "cute" clothes and I have to wear old basketball t-shirts and gym shorts. If anyone has found anything to wear besides old camp shirts give me ideas!!!! PLEASE!!!

Comments:Well, again as I always tell you, Scoliosis it's not the end of the world. I have it, you have, and we all here have it. We're not alone. Outside there, many friends like us.
Don't be sad if you have a scolio. It's true if you can't wear any funky cool whatever suit, but we al have to remember, we have this gifts, because there's something better for us. Everything happen for a reason. We had it, because we're special. We could survive with this and learn to be stronger than our friends do. We're special. Rememebr that!
No one could let you down. Don't ever feel shy and uncomfident if you have this scolio. Show to the world that you're tough and received this as a beautifull gift from God.
A gift to let you learn to be stronger and more mature than the others. =)
I Love you All!!

Feel free to talk with me. I'm waiting for you.

Comments:Hey I dunno if I have scoliosis but im suppose to find out on May 19th THATS 6 DAYS B4 I TURN 15!! Talk about a bad birthday present. Anyways I also have back spasms every once in a while and it hurts when I try to bend down. Which totally sucks cause I've been trying all year to get track, crosscountry, and dance team in my school AND WE FINALLY GET IT NEXT YEAR!! I also love horseback riding But If I have scoliosis I may not get to be part of sll of that. It really scares me to think about surgery especially thinking that i might even be in a wheel chair!! Well any ways even though I dunno if I have it this site at least gives me some idea of whats going to happen so THANX!!

Comments: i had my surgery in 1997 i was 14yrs old in 8th grade i first found out when i was in about 5th grade it wasn't easy for me at all. i wore a back brace for about almost 2yrs tried going to a chiropractor then in 97 i had to have the surgery. after that my life turned for the better. i felt and looked like i was free no more stress. now here i am 22yrs old in pain i just had a muscle spasm I've been in the bed for about 4 days. this is the first time since my surgery that i have been in pain. you have to see things better know that their is a better tomorrow you have to stay focused on what you want for your self. make a set of goal's and go for it one by one you can do what ever you want to...........look forward to hearing from you guy's

Comments:Its been a long time since i was last on here but i kept it in my favs so i could always come back and check it again at some point in my life...and well here i am, now 19 going on 20 this year and well i guess with this being a teens with scoliosis dream book this will probably be my last entry. The reason i'm here is i'd like to thank some of the people who have supported me on here and i'm glad of all the advice i got from some of these people. If your wondering yes i do still have a scoliosis as far as i know which is still 50 degrees, i currently have no pain with it but its not the idea that that may happen anymore its more to do with the look of it. For years i've never been bothered about the look of my body but recently when it came to explain to someone why my body looked slightly twisted it got me to thinking that i shouldn't be having to explain this...I just feel now it is the time whilst i'm still youngish to concider the op, i don't want to have to be explaining myself to other people about this and i don't have to be putting up with a sight in the mirror that i'm starting to feel ashamed of. Oh well guess thats just the burdens of something like this but any way i'd like to thank you all for you advice and well any you may possibly give me in the future.

Thanks alot Ash
