Although the marriage certificate gives her name as McKale, her headstone shows her maiden name as McHale. Their daughter Margaret was my maternal grandmother. She was married to Michael Prendergast. I knew he was born in Co Mayo in 1880 but I did not know of the McHale connection to Co Mayo until looking at this site. |

| Comments: | Hello there McHales, Castlebar,Mayo County is McHaleville. They Have McHale Stadium, A McHale Bar, butcher shop, barber shop and a College. Great place to go if your a McHale. It was the last stop on a two week tour of Ireland. It will be the only place in Ireland I will go back too. I was born 1945 in Philadelphia, my father John Sr. was born 2/14/1920 in Philadelphia. He had a brother Tom and a sister Margaret. My Grandfather who I never met or seen a photo was Thomas. At least thats what I was told, but on my fathers Baptisimal certificate it said his father was John Joseph. Which would make me the III.

I can only trace my dad's family back to Michael McHale (1835-1883) married to Bridget (1845-1880). They are buried in Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis. Their children, I think, are Robert, Thomas, Margaretta, Briget, Mary Ellen, Alice, Anna, James and Sarah. James McHale (1873-1910) married Elizabeth Manley. Their children were James, George, and Margaret. George McHale (1903-1963) married Helen Murphy. Their children are Joseph, John, Jean, and Maureen. Joe McHale is my father. | Comments: | I am the great-grandson of Ellen (McHale) Driscoll, born in Creevy, Crossmolina, Co. Mayo in 1877. She was the daughter of Anthony McHale, widower & farmer, who married Catherine (Loftus) Walsh, widow, in Crossmolina on 13 Feb 1874. Both Anthony & Catherine had children from previous marriages. Anthony McHale was the son of Richard McHale, who was also a farmer.
It would appear that the Walsh & McHale farms in Creevy went to another another Anthony McHale, a possible son from Anthony's first marriage. This property then went to a Paddy Joe McHale of Crossmolina. A message left by a Maertin McHale of London at this site really caught my attention, but I cannot contact him with the info that he left. Anthony McHale's children from his secoind marriage were sent to live with Catherine's sister in South Hadley, Massachusetts after the death of their mother on 28 Jan 1882. All of Catherine's children from her first marriage to Pat Walsh in Creevy, immigrated as well to the Holyoke/South Hadley. If any of this rings a bell with any of you, pleas drop me a line. I would like to know what happened to my great, great grandfather, Anthony McHale. There is no record of his death in Crossmolina. Thank you, Paul |

| Comments: | My great-grandfather was Edward McHale. My father does not know whether or not Edward had siblings or from where he came. Edward was a railroad security guard and died in a fire.
Edward McHale married Mary Dunn (daughter of John Dunn, a Canadian fur-trapper) sometime around 1890 in Chicago (we think in Chicago.) They had 13 children...one of whom was my grandfather Thomas James (Tom). I know 2 of the names of his sisters: Theresa and Irene...had a brother Clyde. Don't know the birthdates or names of other siblings. Theresa had a daughter named Marilyn and Irene had a daughter name Joannie. Tom married Georgina Gardner and had 5 sons: Thomas James (Tom), Roger (passed away), Vaughn (died as a child), John and Richard (whereabouts unknown). Tom married Nancy L. and had 3 children: 2 girls, me (Chari Lynn) (1959), Kathy Sue (1960) and Robert Francis (1964). My maternal grandfather was Henry Sheridan McHale. As I reconstruct it, he came out of either Scotland or Ireland in the late 1800's and immigrated to Canada. He then moved to Vermont, where my mother Lucy Agnes McHale, was born in North Troy, VT in 1898. He had one other son, Reginald Heber McHale. The elder McHale served as a Baptist preacher. Mayo, my Grandfather John McHale was born in Castlerea Co. Roscommon but moved to Sligo, co Sligo and married Kathleen McDonagh they both moved to England where most of my immidate family are still. I know I have relatives still in Mayo and some in Roscommon who I have never met and also relatives in America, my uncle and Aunt visited McHale's bar in New York, name sake or what!

| Comments: | At first i thought my grandparents had actually managed to create a website of some sort, it took me a moment to work out that there are other martin and catherine McHale's out there. I know my family originated in Scotland, my mother is a McHale, and was born in Dumfermline, Fife. She was the daughter of Martin McHale, from Kelty, who was an only child, whose parents (grandparents?) had moved to Scotland from Ireland. My grandmother was a McKee, who also grew up in Kelty, she had brothers (one was called bob, although he is now dead, he married a woman called Eta who is still alive) and sisters, although i'm not sure how many (i believe its a fairly sensitive subject, due to the disappearance of one of her sisters).They currently live in the North East of England, near Teeside.
I am interested in finding out more about my scottish heritage, and found your site very interesting and informative. |
