Comments:You have a 1950s image of very large ER planted in trees on a valley side in an unknown location. If you follow the link I attached you'll see the same ER figure taken in the mid 1960s. This was taken by a photographer called Peter Coleman. Unfortunately his index has been lost so I have no idea where this was taken.

Just happened upon your site whilst googling "Grims Ditch" (or Dyke)as part of local and family history research, but for my own curiosity really.
The HOW family have been in and around Hemel, Abbots, etc for several hundred years, and I happened to notice your surname.

Comments:I have enjoyed reading this website very much. I really like the hillfigures especially the horses. I saw one of them when driving near Sibury Hill, in the fog, about 10 years ago and it was very mysterious and wonderful.

Are you familiar with the DAIMONJI in Japan? They are large characters meaning 'big' that are cleared on the hillside. In English it means something like The big 'Big'.The most famous are in Kyoto and Hakone. They are lit with bonfires during the OBON (honouring of departed souls) ceremonies in August and sometimes clearly visible when dusted with snow. I thought of the Daimonji when I saw the fire figures on this site.

Thank you for maintaining this website

regards
