the attached should only be read at midnight, and refers to Glasgow's (Scotland) magnificent graveyard Enjoy Alan Mck Necropolis Rising majestically The Necropolis sits above the city. A monument to Victorian self indulgence. Doctors, lawyers’ Churchmen and Merchants All “somebody” A hundred years ago. Magnificent obelisks Wondrous mausoleums Elegant and theatrical gravestones Grace the landscape. All tributes to long established families Who built the city. The necropolis’ cathedral sits below, As if of lesser importance Than its inhabitants. Who knows? Maybe it’s right. Mausoleums become vagrants’ houses In these days of plenty. Incongruous but true. Drunks and junkies Also inhabit the city of the dead Oblivious to its inhabitants wishes. Tall statuary mingles With less assuming stone tributes Cloth draped urns Vie with winged celestial messengers As they try to convey Their resident’s worth to the city.
