am a Practicing Midwife working amongst 56 indigenous Guatemalan midwives (comadronas). I am setting up a training program for midwives, teaching classes in the pueblos, attending lots of births, many in the traditional style,living with these women and their families...well it is a shorter list if I just say what I don't do here. You don't know what " food for the soul" reading your website is for me...I have been here for over 1 1/2 years and I am here for the long hall...please keep me up on the news of what is up in the states..I am out in the jungle where 90% of the births are in the home...the local hospital (1 1/2 hour away) is pretty prehistoric and scary... kind of like what I am reading is going on in the states but with the technicalogical twist...well babies come out...where ever you are. anyone can email me...thanks for the goood work sincerely cindy |

Seems that nothing conflicts as much with breast feeding as standard hospital deliverys. |

I'm a LM from WA state, and just finished working on the MANA conference in Seattle last weekend. It was amazing, and I was impressed by the ability of "leaders" and members of MANA and ACNM to openly discuss problems between organizations and start making plans to solve them. Also, lots of political work around securing noncriminilization of midwifery nationally. Citizens for Midwifery held a workshop, and are working on creating local consumer groups in each state! Thanks for the site and your hard work! |
