| Comments: | For hoppers who hate the modern stadiums and yearn for old stadiums you can't beat Northern Ireland. These grounds, Linfield, Glentoran, Portadown, Cliftonville, Crusaders, Ballymena etc were all on a par with grounds like Brighton, Oxford, Watford etc before the Taylor report. The clubs couldn't afford to upgrade their grounds though so most have changed little since the 1950s save for a few plastic seats. For those who like small but well developed grounds visit Glenavon in Lurgan who have managed to create an atractive modern ground but retained a character. |

I was a student at Bolton & passed Burnden on the train, so to see it as a pile of rubble is strange. Most grounds have been updated, some gone totally, to have images old & new in one place is once again, brilliant. |

in 1979 I was fortunate to fly over the old ground in watling street,in a small aircraft out of the airport down the medway(rochester I think) I took several ariel pics.,showing both grass banks in all their glory. being the perfect dickhead that I am prone to being,I leant the pics. out and never saw them again. much angst on my part! good luck,health to you and welling |

| Comments: | Have you been to Cathkin Park, the former home of 3rd Lanark who went out of business in 1967. Its in the shadow of Hampden Park, indeed it was the site of the second Hampden, the current National Stadium being the third ground to bear that name. Cathkin in its Hampden guise staged many Internationals in the late 19th Century. Its still an active Football venue used mainly by local amateur sides. Its strange to see the remenants of old crush barriers with trees and bushes growing round them |

I am an old codger(66) and have kept my secret shame(looking for hours at photos of football grounds!)for many years but after looking at your wonderful site I have realised thatI am not the only sad old b...... about! In my youth I used to go to a lot of amateur grounds when I followed Hayes and they all seemed to be packed with spectators then. I also can claim that I was locked out of Brentford once when they played Hull(Raich Carter had just signed for them)
My Dad used to play for Hayes and reckoned that he played in front of 20000 at Dulwich Hamlet.Attended a lot of amateur finals and if Bishop Auckland played you could guarantee a bumper gate, now their home av is about 150! In conclusion my screen saver is an action shot from Hayes v Wycombe W Cup final 1931 at Highbury,how sad is that? Keep up the good work. Derek |

| Comments: | Just to say that in relatively recent times Petershill Park was four sided although what terracing there was at the North end of the ground was rather over grown. I've been there in the days when the juniors played on Sundays, at a local derby match with Ashfield when there must have been at least 5000 inside if not more.
You said the the record attendance of 19 800 was staggering. Did you know that the Mighty Peasy hold the record for a junior cup final, I think against Cambuslang. Over 77 000 at that one ! |

The old one didn't match the licence conditions. Luckily someone had the brains to make lots of pictures of the work in progress. | Comments: | Franky, you are wrong about the mystery stadium. KFC Roeselare play a few streets further away at the Rodenbachstadium. The mystery stadium is an athletics ground with a football pitch just to small to play regular competition.

| Comments: | I remember the old Vics stand well, it housed both home and away changing rooms, treatment room and office, shower (singular) was pretty basic, but a wonderful place to play football. At least 2 European Cup winners came/played from Blantyre with Billy McNeil playing for the Vics and Jimmy Johnstone(post Euro Winner)for Celtic. I played for both teams as a trialist before Vics signed me proffesionally on a £60 deal. First game of the season was always Vics v Celtic, never any trouble but plenty excitement. Physio was a guy called Tammy Miller who was a dog doctor and you had to wait while a budding Shawfield winning dog came off the treatment table to be seen to. Lots of stories and plenty memories of Blantyre as we progressed mainly to semi-finals of Scottish, west of Scotland semi and Red Hackle final. Blantyre Vics are the type of club you never forget. |
