| Comments: Having come across your page, I am very interested to know if anyone can tell me the origin of the name Tooley Hall, acquirred by the Boothby family. Mt TOOLEY family were merchants, Mayors of Boston, etc. a very prominent family in the Boston area from early 1500s to 1680, when they were thrown off the City Council for gunrunning for the Parliamentarians in the English Civil War.

| Comments: The Boothby-Lund family can be traced back to the 14th Century, with the binding together of the Lund family, a noble Anglo-Saxon family, originally from Sweden and based in Yorkshire and the Boothby clan, the Highland Lairds of Camster and Argyll.
Upon the dissolution of the monasteries, Lord James Boothby-Lund was granted Boothby-Lund Hall. The Boothby-Lund dynasty has included some infamous characters, including Lord Henry Boothby-Lund, whom sailed alongside Captain Kidd as a pirate, plundering ships of all kinds along India’s Malabar coast. Probably most notorious of all was Lord William Boothby-Lund, whom along with Sir Francis Dashwood founded The Hellfire Club, which met irregularly from 1746 to around 1763. In popular legend they held notorious, orgiastic and satanic meetings at Medmenham Abbey, beside the Thames. By 1879 the family owned 5000 acres of land, however, Lord Sebastian Boothby-Lund lost the entire family fortune through drinking, drugs and gambling. In my research, I encountered a document that indicates that Edward Waller was in a tenant of a property called Goodshaw in Rainow, Cheshire in 1690. An adjacent neighbor and tenant of the same landlord was a William Boothby who likely relates to the writer. I suspect that a female Boothby member was married to a Waller in this era. Background information for the Boothby Hotel in Oregon states that it was started by either Reason Waller Boothby or his children. | Comments: Hi There family members!!! I am a descendent of the Maine Boothby's by way of Massachusetts. We have our own little wing down here. Some of our 2nd Cousins still live in Maine. My Great Uncle "LLoyd Meserve" Boothby was a Cornish/Limington farmer and also worked for H.P.HOOD. He always seemed to come through with the ice cream for our reunions in Plymouth, MA.
My Great-Grandfather John Russell Boothby arrived in Randolph,Massachusetts in 1922-23 with Lloyd,and Dorothy stayed in Maine. Aunt Clara came to MA with John and 2nd wife ADA(Hartford), and her son Elwin. Both had lost their spouses to the great Flu. Together John and ADA had My Grandfather Randolph Orman who passed in 1986, there were also Uncle Harold who resides in Randolph, and Aunt Mary who died in the 1950's. My Grandparents would only have one child John Randolph Boothby Sr., my dad. There are 4 boys and no girls. I was 1st (1962), John Randolph Boothby Jr(1970),from our mother "Linda" and from his 2nd wife There were Thomas Andrew(1975) and Robert Orman (1976). Dad currently resides in FLA. with 3rd wife "MA". I am very proud of my Boothby heritage. We are a scattered but strongly holding family. |

My great grandfather, James William Boothby, born 1873 in Wigtoft, Lincs. Served as a Police Constable. His father, Henry Boothby, born 1843 in Wigtoft, Lincs. William Boothby, 1807, in Sutterton, Lincs. Benjamin Boothby, 1774, Bolinbroke, Lincs. His father, William Boothby, but I have no further information. | Comments: just got some more info the Boothby family was founded in australia by Judge Benjamin Boothby, one of his children was Benjamin born 18th feb 1831,his first son was Osbert, who fathered Hugo, who fathered my father Rex who is now 83yrs. So it was in 1853 that Judge Benjamin became the supreme court judge, he died at his residence "the Glen" in 1868. also the English family of Boothby descended from ancient Danish Chiefs, who settled and held lands in Lincolnshire before the Norman invasion of 1066. Henry Boothby of Clayton Close was created a Baronet in 1644, but because of the cival war the letters patent did not pass the seal and in 1660 after the Restoration, a new patent was issued by Charles 11 to william Boothby of Broadlow Ash, Derbyshire. The family seat of the Boothbys for 200 years was Ashbourne Hall in Derbyshire, but under the will of the 9th Baronet it was sold in 1846. The Boothby arms are; as you all know the crest is a lion's paw as in the arms. The family motto is MORS CHRISTI MORS MORTIS MIHI., the death of christ is to me the death of death. | |

My grandfather Roby Randall Boothby Sr. was born on Sept.28,1891 in Michigan to Sylvester Boothby and Sarah Roby. He died April 28,1959. All information from valid death certificate. | Comments: Looking for information about grandfather Roby Randall Boothby Sr born 09/28/1892 we think, Place of birth unk. Parents were father James or John Boothby, mother was Sara (Sarah) Jane Roby. Seperated quite early and no one talked. Sarah had a brother Thomas and there was another family member a Nellie Machuta that my aunt had met years ago. Grandfather Roby was a NYC P.O. as was his son Roby Jr. both lived on Long Island. Where I lived before retiring and moving to Florida. I was a Police officer, and my daughter Laura was too, I convinced my son Richard A. Jr to be a fireman breaking the tradition.
It was thought my grandfather had some family in Michigan. At age 16 he enlisted in the US Navy. He was raised in a boys home and ran away because of the beatings and abuse. Supposedly family landed in Maine when they came from England I was told as a young boy. I only have an aunt Ada that survives, Father Roby Randall Boothby Jr (my father died last year).
