When opportunities come, one learns to recognize the opening door. And, once that step towards the door is taken, a rollercoaster ride filled with cheers, friendship, and learning emerges! I took the chance to take part in such a prestigious pageant and, with God’s grace, I was chosen. Yet, it doesn’t matter that I won because if I hadn’t made that first effort to make a foothold into the door, a worthwhile experience would have been lost. I would have lost my chance to connect to ravishing and bright young ladies of the Indian community, to grow as a confident and spirited competitor, and to perform in front of an esteemed table of judges and supportive audience. Being part of the Miss India Dc Pageant, I can truly say, it’s been so much fun. Each contestant brings in her own unique style and personality, which definitely made the experience even more re-memorable. The girls were absolutely great. At the end of the day, you just want to enjoy every moment of the pageant because it does pass by very fast. The pageant itself builds up your confidence and helps you grow as a person. You get a chance to show off your best formal wear and Indian wear. And of course, your TALENT. So enjoy each moment of it. I have been involved with the Miss India DC Pageant since I was 14!!!! It has given me the opportunity to express myself on stage and meet so many great people. Miss India DC is not only a great show to be a part of, but I always enjoy being in the audience. There’s usually a score sheet in the program so you can rate each contestant during the three segments; it’s always fun to see how close you are when the winners are announced! Pageants are quite multifaceted, in the sense that they offer so many different things. These pageants are not only a wonderful platform to meet amazing people, they are also a way to showcase the pride that we take in our culture and heritage. Participating in this pageant truly opened my eyes and broadened my views and perspectives about myself and about the pageant experience itself. It is always about what you take from the experience and how it impacts and/or changes you. What I took most is a greater sense of pride in my background as well as a new aura of confidence that had ignited during the entire experience itself. It truly is remarakable and it shows that anyone can do anything if they put their mind to it. I never thought I could participate in anything similar to this, but when I did I had the time of my life. Cherish every moment, take advantage of every moment, and live life to its greatest. Don't leave any leaves unturned. The key element is to enjoy. It's never about winning (though it is undoubtedly a bonus), it's always about seizing the moment and enjoying it to its fullest/maximum potential. | |

I was a pageant contestant in its early years, and moved on to participating in the fashion shows. The pageant was one of the most enjoyable experiences for me last summer. I got to meet the sweetest girls and make so many new friends. I admire each girl for her confidence and style. Pageants are just about winning or losing, its about the experience you make for yourself and what you can learn from everyone else. I definitely learned that it takes alot to get out there, but even more that I admire each girl's dedication. The pageant was so fun, and definitely changed my perspective on it. | |
