Thanks for writing "The Poe Shadow". It made me understand (I am a long time fan but do not qualify as a scholar of Poe) that I may have information (if you are still interested), at least a connection. I own a ranch in Mendocino, California, and believe it was once owned by a deccendant of Poe. Please contact me at (707) 827-3282, or by email: dakinsam@earthlink.com. |

Hi, Matthew. I just started reading "The Dante Club" last after finishing David Anderson's "The Gargoyle." Have you read it? Subconsciously I selected DC from the bookshelf, where it has been gathering dust for about three years now, and found myself amused that both "The Gargoyle" and "The Dante Club" have "The Inferno" in common. I may just find myself reading the whole Divine Comedy next. I've only read bits and pieces of it for English courses at the U of U, but look forward now more than ever to reading the entire text. Thank you for your book. I look forward to finishing it in the next week, and hope to bring home a copy of "The Poe Shadow" soon. |

Bravo! THE DANTE CLUB gets my highest praise, which consists of (a) Preparing a List of Characters (Dickens used to do this), (b) Reading it a second time, and (c) Buying a hardback First Edition from Amazon. Of the est. 1000 novels I have read, less than 10 earned this treatment (Shogun, Lonesome Dove, Watership Down, The Exorcist, ...) Please quit your day job! |

Mr. Pearl,
I teach two Advanced Placement English Literature courses at New Ulm High School and I just handed out The Dante Club to my students. They are so excited to read it. We did an indepth study of Dante's The Inferno. I have a panel presentation coming to our high school in two weeks of religious leaders from 11 different faiths (Catholic, Lutheran, Buddhist, Atheist, etc.). My students have so many questions about the afterlife. They are looking forward to reading your text and making the connections to what they have already read. I just wish there were more teacher resources out there for your novel. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! |

Mr Pearl, I have just started reading The Poe Shadow. I walked into a bookstore to get a present for a friend, and as soon as i saw the name "Poe". I HAD to get the book. I am fascinated by not only his work, but his life has become my obsession. The Poe Museum in Richmond, even though Mr Poe never lived there, i visit every time i visit the city. I'm only a little disappointed that i had no other choice but to get it in Spanish, which loses much of your narrative. I wish i could have gotten it in English, but i'm still hooked on the book. Thank you so much for making my summer a little more bearable! |

I'm looking forward to reading The Poe Shadow and am considering doing a Pearl literature unit next year. Keep the book coming!! Very enjoyable. |

Since you receive so many of these comments I doubt you will read this but if you do, try to figure out what caught my attention and why. Cannot stop reading "The last Dickens". Absolutely marvellous O_O The first thing I do, the last one also, is reading some pages of this book. At the bus, in my bedroom...and at the office too! Makes me feel just like Rebeca, but I have no Mr Osford hahaha! |

I am listening to the Poe Shadow as I drive to work. It is a beautiful story and I can't wait to get into my car. I am so happy there are authors like you that can bring interesting characters like Poe to life for us. After I am done, I will read your other books as well. |

The Poe Shadow has transported me to another place and time when my life needs to be relieved of everyday worries. The characters and plot are so real and the struggles faced by Quentin are very much like anyone trying to pursue their true passions in a non-inspiring world. |

Hi Matthew. I'm enjoying your website. I haven't read any of your books yet, I'm sorry to say, but I will soon. I have only recently found out about you as The Last Dickens makes the tour of many book blogs I visit. I really enjoyed your post about animals and humans and writing in my friend Wendy's blog. I adore animals and rescue cats. My husband and I have 10 and feed several more.
I read your brother's article and think it's criminal (which it is!) what the insurance company is doing to him. I really do understand the pain in the neck insurance can be esp. when you need it since I have a rare bone disease and am in a wheelchair. Best wishes to your brother.
Thank you for writing wonderful books for us readers! I promise to read your soon! |

I am looking forward to reading your books. They were suggested as a modern alternative reading for our book club that does a lot of pairing Classics with Moderns.
Thanks for some splendid reading! |

I am almost finished with The Dante Club and cannot say how much I love being transported to another time and place so expertly! Your characters and their plot are so real and addicting. I am a home hospice nurse and your book on CD makes my travels very pleasant during the day. Thank you! |
