I have read all of your books so far, and I love all of them. They are suspenseful and very well written. They are a perfect blend of fictional characters and events, and actual people and places, with a story in between that harmoniously blends both the fiction and actual. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to get The Technologists. |

My husband and I went to your book reading & siging at the Free Library of Philadelphia last evening. What a splendid occasion to hear you read from your book The Last Dickens in the famous Elkins Room. Behind you was the very desk that Charles Dickens used when he wrote many of his novels...I have been a great fan of Dickens since my teenage years and now re-read him looking differently at his writings. You have picked a great writer for your new book, The Last Dickens. He has never been out of print but has a new life through writers like yourself...his complex plot and cliff hanger chapters are perfect for your style of writing. Cheers to you and keep on writing in your own style & referencing the greats of Literature. Thanks for visiting Philadelphia |

I have just finished "The Dante Club" and don't know what to say. I am still there and haven't yet come back to the current time and place. You were able not only to put yourself amidst the Fireside Poets but to take me there with you. I felt I knew each of them, walked with them, sat among them, all the time knowing their innermost weakness and, at the same time, their greatest gifts. Who do I want I the dinner party of my dreams? Mr. Pearl, who has usurped at least the first two. Can't wait for more. |

I'm about halfway through "The Dante Club" and it's taking me awhile. I found I needed to download and read Dante's "Inferno", and then wound up downloading the whole "Divine Comedy", translated by Longfellow, of course. I *never* write in books, but I have been making notes in this one. I'm looking forward to reading your other books. |

Dear Mr. Pearl,
In "The Dante Club" you have written a fascinating story of murder and psychological drama. I could not put down your book until I had digested every word on every page. It was fulfilling to have a book of weight and substance in my hands. I am not young, and although I now live in the midwest, I know the Boston area well, having worked there for many years. Thank you for taking me on a harrowing trip home. It was exciting to read about Harvard and the intrigues involving some of my favorite poets.
Sincerely,

Searched for my previous email to see what I had said about 'The Dante Club' several years ago. Know that I was enthusiastic about themes, style, setting and character. Have read all novels (except The Technologists which I will certainly get). Delighted to say that standards have been maintained and surpassed. Always intriguing and multi-layered, your novels have presented wonderful world pictures of so many eras and of so many varied characters. Extremely high standards always and wonderfully engaging plots and characters. |

As a junior in high school, I read "The Dante Club" and could never put it down. Now I currently am reading The Last Dickens and intend to read The Poe Shadow and The Technologists. I am never bored with your books and can never wait until my hands are on the next. I would wish you the best in your career, but as I am sure you are aware, you already are a king in historical fiction. Outstanding! |

Hi Matthew, I have been asked to reach out to you . As President of The Dickens Fellowship Boston Branch the group was wondering if you will have the time to come to discuss your book The Last Dickens on Sunday March 10th at 2 o'clock at The Union Oyster House at our March meeting. We are in the process of reading Drood and your book concurrently. Any Luck ? We were just wondering if you had any time on your schedule. Hope to hear from you on this request. Thank you for your time. Sincerely Alan Giangregorio President of The Dickens Fellowship Boston Branch |

I'm listening to The Technologists on audio, during my commute time. I'm enjoying the plot very much. The dynamic of characters and the circumstance are interesting and entertaining. A much different type of story than I normally read, but a very nice change and I'm looking forward to your other works. Thank you for writing this! My stepfather is a Harvard graduate (Biology) and a UC Berkeley graduate (Architecture), and an avid reader. I've recommended your books to him as I'm sure he would enjoy your writing as much as I am, in spite of the sarcastic jabs at Harvard's snobbery! Have a wonderful day! |

Just completed a wonderful experience reading The Dante Club and was about to go shopping for your other works when I noticed that your Author Notes at the end makes no mention of Simon Schama. You are the first person I've ever heard to mention Parkman and Webster in the same sentence without a nod to Schama's Dead Certainties. Don't sons of Fair Harvard stick together? |
