| Comments: | Hey gents! And I better give a nod to the ladies as well... I have at preasent a 2000 650L that I bought new and it has served me for over 40,000 miles. It has been high side to both sides, the obligatory on my butt wheely it over a time or two and at least once over the bars. I have used it to go to work when my truck desided not to start on an icy morning and riden it through a few swamps where the mud per cubic foot weighed more than the bike. The only thing it did was load up and spit it into my Stupid-uki riding friend's face. Needless to say I love this machine. Before I started this project it had lost the emisions somewhere, found a thumper racing exaust incert, air box mods including a filter, had the gearing tweeked and a few other little mods to boot. Now, I have desided to go all out and build the bike Honda should have. LCS racing is being taped to give me the ponies and rebuild me a 670+ CC, re-camed, FMF exausted, heat treated rod and crank, re-jeted and Dynoed monster. I am told 60HP is an expected yeild, and that 65 or 70 can be had if I spend a bit more. So now that I have the motor on the git'go, I am turning my money and my mind to the chasis and body parts. I now ask for help folks, I need a Corbin or other high milage seat built for comfort. I intend to continue to ride these long roads out here in Texas, and mostly arround the Dallas-Austin coridor with dips and fast weekends to the beaches in and arround Galveston. I have the long range fule tank, even a secondary tank, I just need the seat to keep my backside un-blistered, and I don't want to pay new prices. Can you gents help? Please send an E-Mail.
Thanks all !!! |

Bars down 4 times, couple of cactus flats and don't get me started on the hip high woops out of San Felipe... Only mods were, tank (bigger), rear sprocket (added 4 teeth), shark fin, and smog block off kit. What a trip, can't wait until next year. |

| Comments: | Hey guys and gals! The XR 650L Baddog is completed. 15,000 miles and going strong with 60+ HP. Powerup kit from WhiteBros was a great move. Be prepared to rejet all three carb jets: pilot, main, and needle. It took me 20 attempts to dial in the tuning by using different jets and a new needle.
Sample features of my bike: E-Series header and tailpipe. K&N filter, and open airbox. Block-off kit, lower seat from Corbin in Red, 4 Gal tank, street grips, Kawasaki mirrors, Kawasaki pipe guard, Pirelli street tires, HD chain, rear spring boot, black and red color-matched number plates. Tuning required a nearly open pipe for max power. Top speed estimated at 130 MPH. Cruising speed is 80 in top gear with throttle just off idle. I do not dare open her up for more than a few seconds in top gear. Also too loud to run wide open for more than a minute or two. But hey, that is one mean dual sport! Not sure what you got going on with this bike? Write me. |

| Comments: | Hi. I am planning on buying a dual-sport bike by the end of January 07. I have narrowed my choices to the XR650L, KLR650 and DZ400. What I really want is to take a XR650R and use a Baja Designs kit to make it street legal, but I have heard that it is a real pain to do so in Arkansas. Anyway, since I already have a touring bike, I wanted a dual-sport more on the dirt side to go ride with my friends who have ATVs. Through the years I have owned several XRs, and been happy with them. My biggest concern with the XR650L is the weight and lack of horsepower. If I buy a 650L, I plan to replace the stock pipe, remove the air injection, add a Al Baker camshaft, and upgrade the suspension. Are there any common problems with XR650L?
What about overheating them in traffic? I have had a XR400 and a XR600R in the past, and had zero problems out of them...unlike the Suzukis which I have had a lot of problems. |

| Comments: | Hey guys! Sounds like we are brain storming here! Lots of great ideas on pipes and carb setup. Remember that a stock 650L usually has about 25 horses. Running a knobbie on a Dyno causes the results to vary from fact. Use a street tire when doing those dyno runs and check the diameter of the tire and pressure. Go to 15-20 psi rear-tire on the dyno if you have to. Then test.
Grips are worn out again. Darnit. Max power dropping a bit. May need to lean out the mixture again. Moving the rear tire all the way forward improves street handling for heavy riders. All the way means - well forward of the minimum tension disk settings. The 650L is sprung for skinny people when stock. Try it! Ride on! |

| Comments: | Long time no see "One Wheelers", I have an 03 Yamaha XT600, wheelies great but the bike is as slow as hell. I decided to add some power as I thought this might be the only way I would see the kph needle hit the top of the scale for once.
I'm doing this by installing a 10.5:1 compression piston, Stage 2 power up camshaft (40b), racing valve springs and full exhaust system (anyone wishing to get a system for their XT600 can go with a CRD Absolute power system, they're the BOMB DIGGY). I wanted to use a Dyno-jet stage 2 jet kit but the one that I got didn't work at all, so I decided to go with some race Carburetors from Sudco that were designed for for bike. As I am a "wheelie ass", I really can't afford to give up my "One Wheeler" status, that would make riding my bike a real kick in the head! If race carb means sticky throttle and erratic operation, then I think I made a big mistake. Has anyone here had experience with Keihein CR Carburetors? Hey by the way are there any XT600 heads out there? |

| Comments: | Remember when I dumped my bike in water last fall, got it started, oil turned white rode 15km to truck any way. Last said i needed new top end?
It Still runs good as ever without any work, however after engine cools it smokes like crazzy 10 seconds after starting. The smoke stops after a minute. ??? The 94 XR is an early model before smog stuff. The delay until smoke made me think excessive blow-by was causing oil to puke out of crank vent into airbox. I re-installed the oil separator canister I removed from new... still the same smoke for 1200km. Is it valve damage? Why the big delay for smoke? Any ideas welcome by email or on this guestbook. My smokey bike puts smiles onto peoples faces for some reason too. |

| Comments: | Hey guys! Uncorked your 650L yet? I just added a new Corbin seat. I ordered it in red, although an "animal print" was tempting. Now, with 60 horses or more, I no longer slide off the back of the bike at 80 KPH. The seat really helps me with my body grip on this overpowered bike.
To top it off, I added a set of street super-motard tires to smooth out the ride. One thing: if you double the horsepower, be ready for some serious valve noise. After 2000 miles on the new 10:1 motor, the valves clack like crazy, but damn it goes fast and loud. I have tuned the e-series pipe down by removing 3 disks. Wide open works too, but tends to cause mass strandings of whale pods. Still running the K&N filter and and whole host of custom parts upgrades. The bike is solid. 0 to 60 in about 4 sec. 50 MPG. The Clarke fuel tank was not a good choice as the fuel petcock hits the engine and wears down until it leaks. I only have one real problem now. The grips keep wearing out every three months. |

| Comments: | Hey, Onewheelers
Does anyone here have a problem with oil leaking from their air box when wheelieing. Whenever I wheelie my bike at balance point for a while she leaks oil from the air box. My guess for why this is happening is that, when the bike get high enough the crankcase vent tube on the rear of the engine allows oil to flow into the airbox. This oil then drains down through a hose at the bottom of the airbox. Has anyone had this problem before and if so, how did you correct it???? |

| Comments: | Hey, guys
Opened up my 2004 KLR650 for the second time within 500 to 3900 miles. This has officially pissed me off as I was KLR650's "number one fan"!! I was one of the first Endurocyclist to purchase one in the world and the first to have one here in the Bahamas. I have had more problems with this bike than any other bike I've owned. The 2004 klr 650 was my dream bike and the dream finally came through 6 months ago. I now have a total of 3900 miles on the bike and the problems have started. The first problem I encountered was a ticking noise when the bike got up to operating temp. This ticking was heard at the top of the engine within the valve cover. I had first suspected theat it might be the decompressor spring, since I had found it to be so weak. I have yet to find the true source of this problem. The second problem I have encountered is the Balancer Chain adjuster spring had broken. I found 96% of the spring but never located the remainder. Anyway, I replaced the spring and adjuster and all chain slapping noises on take off and Idle went away I've never gotten any plausible excuses from "Gable's Honda", Miami Florida, the dealership that sold me the bike, on any of these problems. Their attitude is like, "Hey were not the official Kawasaki Dealership and we don't care", or as one of their mechanics put it, "just wait until shes completey broken-in and see if the noise goes away. Well I still love my bike and realize that even babies are somtimes born dead, but I'll never forget this experience when looking for a new Bike. |

I'm not disputing that it's eaiser to wheelie a xr650l, I'm just sayin that it's more fun on the Klr650. I've now progressed to 2nd gear "all-day". I can now put her up in second and keep her there, under 5000rpms for for a few pole lengths. (One pole works out to about 100 feet). Is this good progress guys or what? Should I concider myself an official "onewheeler" yet? Any feedback is good feedback!! P.S. Big event this coming Sunday at our local track. Groups here have peered off into different teams and this has now caused a wheelie competition to insue. Most bikes are, Honda xr-650L and KLR-650s. |
