When Phil's second shot landed on the front edge of the 18th green at the Riviera, I prayed to God he would par the hole and win the tournament. Not that I was cheering for Phil, but I didn't want you to feel any worse about missing the birdie putt on that hole. You played quietly and steadily through out the weekend, and when everyone was falling back, you were charging ahead. It's a real test of not only the golf skills, but also your character, to be able to compete shoulder to shoulder with those guys on the field. On hindsight, you missing the birdie putt wouldn't have made any difference, as Phil would par the hole and win the tournament with 15 under. But I saw your lips move ever so slightly to let out a sigh (or was it a curse?) after you missed the birdie putt, and I knew it must've hurt you real bad. Well, I guess you can't win all the time... Sir KJ, you didn't win the tournament, but you are always a winner to me. You are my biggest 'real life' hero. You see, I have a dream. The dream of one day playing in one of the Majors. Without you, my dream would have died long time ago, but everytime I see you on the field, my dream is kept alive. And kicking too. You motivate me on the driving range, and you inspire me on the course. On a more 'realistic' note, I'm never going to be able to shoot below par, but at least I'd like to think that I too one day can be like you. Strong. Determined. And successful. You succeeded in golf, and while I may never get beyond being a weekend golfer, I will succeed too... may be not in golf, but in something else. My job. My family. My life. And if you knew how much you and I have in common, you would know why I relate to you so much and so well, even though I have never met you in real person. We're both Koreans, we started playing golf late, Thailand means a lot to both of us, and we have a common friend. Uncle Larp. He's told me all about you, sir KJ... how you grinded your teeth to become what you have become... how hard you tried... and how much character was in you. And that's why I've been following your every step... that's why you feel so real to me. And that's why you are my real life hero. |

I am asking for your help on a 12 year old golf genius boy who is in financial difficulty. His Name is David Lee, lives in Coquitlam BC in Canada. He is famous boy in the city he lives. He wins most of the tournaments he plays in and he had 8 hole-in-ones for 5 years. He started golf at age 7. His passion on golf caught him right away, since then he has been first person at the driving range every day and last too. His great passion on golf is well known to local golfers. Two years later, he shot a course record, seven under par twenty-four at a 9-hole golf course in Coquitlam called Westwood Plateau Golf Academy and he was on a newspaper the week after this happened which was in July 2005. His first hole-in-one was also when he was nine years old. His second hole-in-one came when he was ten years old. He was on the newspaper (The Now) after his second hole in one. When he was ten years old he went to Tacoma Washington for the drive chip and putt and he hit his driver 202 yards and won driving, then he won the putting and the chipping and won the drive chip and putt. When he was ten years old he shot another new course record, 64 at Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club from the red tees. Now he has amazingly eight hole-in-ones. Last year, David received a scholarship letter from University of Alberta like Tiger did at the same age. I like him to have more chances to play at more tournaments. Even though he wins most of tournaments he plays in, his financial limit prevents him from participating in them. He lives with his mom only. They rent a basement of a house. His mom told me her financial difficulty prevents David from the things he likes to do; such as more frequent play in tournaments-she can’t afford traveling expense. I really want to help them but unfortunately I am not the one. He got many free stuff from tournament prizes and free memberships from local golf courses but actually he need financial help to make him afford his hopeful journey. David and I really enjoy your play on PGA Tour and recently David rent me the SBS TV documentary about you, titled “도전의 또 다른 이름 최경주”. It was very impressive and we all agreed that you and your wife afford at the top on the tour, great people. I had to copy the video right away because I had to give it back to David. | Comments: | 요즘 경기가 잘 안풀리시네요? 부담을 많이 가지셔서 그렇다고 생각은 하고 있지만 이미 정상에 오르셨는데 부담이 욕심이 되면 안되겠죠? 세계랭킹 역시 숫자에 불과하고 저희는 최경주 선수가 개인적으로나 국가적으로 PGA 정상에 섰다는것 자체만으로도 뿌듯합니다. 저도 요즘 골프에 미쳐서 지내지만 골프가 공을 때리는것만이 아니라 몸관리도 엄청 중요하더군요. 20대에 밤새고 다음날 친구들하고 운동을 할수도 있는 체력을 가졌으나 30대에는 술한잔 하면 다음날 꼭 사우나를 가야할 정도로 무기력해졌지요. 혹시 요즘 체중이 1Kg 이라도 느셨다면 그것역시 문제점으로 작용할수 있으니 체크해보세요. 1kg 엄청 무겁답니다. 무릎에서 발까지 엄청난 힘이 필요해서 스윙이 부자연스러워 지더군요. 수영도 하시고 와인한잔 하시며 몸도 부드럽게 만들어주세요. 나이는 하루하루 늘잖아요?

내일도 멋진 경기하셔서, 토요일엔 탱크와 타이거의 맞대결을 보여주시기 바랍니다. 결과도 물론 중요하지만, 그런 경기를 보여주시는 것만으로도 흥분 그 자체랍니다. 두근 두근! 짐퓨릭이랑 어니앨즈는 요즘 슬럼픈가봐여? 지난 주 우승자 그라운드의 왼손잡이도 2라운드에서 탈락하는 마당에, 탱크같은 질주 보여주셔서 감동입니다. 지난 주 첫날도 6언더시길래, wire-to-wire인가보다 했는데, 역시 골프의 감칠맛을 다시한번 볼 수 있었습니다. 한달에 한번씩 우승하면 사람들이 골프를 우습게 볼꺼 아닙니까. ^^; 취미 삼아하는 골프지만, 정말 엄청난 매력덩어리 운동이란 걸 매일 매일 느끼고 있습니다. 요즘 지난 주 구입한 중고 Titleist 690.MB의 매력에 심취중이거든요. 성실과 덕행. 이중에 저는 "덕"을 좀 더 우러러 봅니다. 성실한 사람도 많지 않지만, 덕인을 보는 건 너무 힘듭니다. This past week I spent 4 awesome days at the President Cup and was so greatful to see the best golfers in the world playing in the same tournament. On Wednesday we were allowed to get autographs and lucky enough for me I got yours. I have been watching you play golf a lot the last 2 years and love your enthusiasm when you play and your interaction with the fans. You have easily become one of my favourite golfers to watch. On Sunday you were playing against Hunter Mahan and I was standing along the green of the 3rd hole and watched you make a great putt to square the hole. As you were walking off the green I said great putt K.J. and you acknowledged me where after I made a gesture with my hands asking for your golf ball. To my surprise you handed over me the ball. This was such a great gesture and I can't tell you how appreciative I am that you did that. I plan to put your autograph on my cap and your golf ball in a nice casing in my living room which will make a great conversation piece. Your photographer was kind enough to take a picture of me with the ball after you gave me the ball and I would be grateful if he can send me this picture to my e-mail address.
