I was arrested 3 times at Yerkes in the early '90's for civil disobedience. I was there with Act Up SF! to protest against the horrible torture of Jerom, and also to expose the millions of tax dollars wasted by a private school that most tax payers can't even afford. People with Aids know that SIV is not, and never will be HIV. Why won't the researchers admit this? Because of the money.

The personal story of Jerom's suffering in the name of this archaic science called vivisection moved me and many others to make a stand, and it saddens me greatly that the same exact experiments on primates are still being allowed 40 years later, to test fear, neglect, etc on baby primates.
To addict primates to crack? Why? Addiction is a disease only humans can have...and they never get addicted against their will.

It is just so horrific, it is almost unbearable to believe nothing, nothing has changed. So many protests...every weekend for years.

And now, so many alternative tests proving this evil, vivisection, is no longer justifiable, and yet it continues.

As long as there are "Jeroms" out there suffering, then hopefully there will be many, many voices (or votes)and signatures to speak for the voiceless animals in laboratories.

Thank you for setting up this website. Although I have great emotional difficulty reading it because the treatment of these animals is so foreign to me - I was brought up by a woman who loved animals and we always had family pets that were cherished - I have found so much information to include in my letters of protest.

I wishes myself that the possibility consists in tv the more to report, aerzt the dagen are its arguments data and statement in all public to show may exactly however tuned it me sadly, green peace wwf those world far admits are for everything else use themselves however too few for these poor creatures their liberty were robbed around a quallvollen and a senseless in the laboratories to find dead. those makes, chemikonzern and pharma industry more politker is unfortunately too large. even if we small progressed make, is each day a too much. While writing a critique on the Animal Welfare Act, I came upon your sight. The stories I read brought tears to my eyes, but strengthened my committment to fighting for the rights of all animals. It is deplorable that such Descarte-esqe methodologies are still in existence today. Let's keep up the great fight!

BRAVO Rachel! I did a search for you and found and read the memorial tribute to Jerome. You were very scetchy while it was happening but ALWAYS promised to one day scream to the world the horrible things that were done to him. I'm proud of you and glad to see you are working where your truest passions can be fulfilled and the differences you've made can be recognized.

:)

Only recently have I ever had a conversation with someone, that has worked in a lab, other than the one I have worked in. I am still there after many years. For those of you reading this wondering why, and how I have lasted, and am still in this environment..there are many resons, but there is one fundamental reason. I make a difference. I am fortunate to be able to make a difference.
It is great to see a site like this, and I will visit often.
There is way to much to say in a short comment section, but I encourage you all that have worked or still work in research to be courageous, strong, and always remember those great animals that we have to cherish and honor.
I sign in on behalf of them.
