| Comments: | have found a load of photies from the 249 era. including those of Bersatu Padu, still got the id card. remember we had only Meat and veg rations, until we met some yanks or aussies, not sure which, did swap,, dang me,, we got meat and veg from them, ended up near Kuanton on that one on Radio relay detachment.also oF a xmas dinner in Miktila barracks, a a curious one of an MPC course, as soon as i figure out how,,will send them on.Does anyone remember an Officer. Ex SAS. who took us on the runs in mornings, saying was, anyone who came in after him, went round again. and they did.Oh well.. sure do miss the egg banjoes for breakfast and the chippaties. geez.. jusdt rememebred.. think i owed him 2 dollars. oh well.

I was with the squadron (Comcen troop) from early to mid '69 to late 1970 early 1971, wiht a secondment to 649 for a few months. OC then was Capt Waumsley. John I know you then.. also Ian bell, and Sid Davison, do you remember a Brian Kiely, altho not 249 he was 18 sigs, but he fraternised a lot with us., we were the best then. look forward to hearing from you. |

A lot of Denbury Boys made it and we had the honour of being introduced individualy to Molly, Franks Mum, who wanted to meet each of her sons friends and say thankyou for coming. Frank will be greatly missed by all but will always be remembered for the great friendships he made with all who knew him. R I P Frank Verdun Pierpoint my very good friend.

| Comments: | Beg to report that Matt McBirney died peacefully at home on 23 March 2008. He simply went to sleep and never woke up.
Matt had been in hospital for several weeks with internal problems. Having been allowed home, he was making a good recovery and plans for a summer cruise. His many pals fully expected to see him at the 216 Para Sigs Reunion in May. Pete Thornton and I are composing a suitable obituary for the Wire and Pegasus. If you have any comments or suitable (?) stories about Matt, please mail them me for inclusion. Thank you. RIP Matt McBirney, sorely missed, never forgotten. |

Was in several R&R bands/groups during my time there and married Sandy Maiden who I met while practicing at the Youth Club in Singapore. Nice to see the names on the Photos of so many people that I can remember. Those sure were some good times. Sorry to hear about Taff Dunbar. I seem to remember we nicknamed him the Zulu Warrior and he was a fantastic swimmer. Having size 15 feet probably helped. Good luck and a happy future to you all. |

Just to let you all know that Afghanistan is a shitehole. Moving into the winter - freezing at night but still warm during the day, although it's been raining of late. Most of the Taliban appear to have gone for the winter, re-group, re-arm and re-train ready for the spring offensive...oh hum, the marines are well pissed off, not fired a shot in anger out on the FOB's! Sporadic rocket and mortar attacks on Kandahar but mostly aimed at the flight line and they must be a very determined team - it's damn cold out there in the hills. Catch you all later. |

I was posted to 648 Signal Troop in merry old Brunei in early 68 then after a spell there went to 237 Sig Squad and finished up in 249 which was great,being a TG Op met lots of old friends there and after that got that suit we all prayed for. I too did a memory journey to Singapore about 6 years ago and boy how its changed. I have some slides of an exercise I was on in 69 and will post those when i can find the darn things. |

Did my bit with 249 on Ex Picot (1968). At a place called Gonk Dust ?. An old airfield, that was used to grow water melons. A TG op on loan from 200 Sqn RCT. Happy Days. |

the site is flowing as smooth as a pint of Tiger to which I had many, having just returned from Singa's. I have an updated photo to go alongside Pete Buckley's photo outside Zam -Zams which was still packed with customers enjoying the delicacies and that was at 4pm. just managed to catch site of it whilst on an open topped bus , jumped off and Deborah and I were ordering Nasi goreng etc, my Singa's sure has changed, photo's to come once organized Goldie |

I was a line tech, sent to Labuan (64) to work with a line party -- Cpl Rogers (lineman) on a GPO aluminum cable installations with "bad joint" problems. Was then posted to 19 Sigs Changi to work on auto telephone exchanges, line transmission equipment - telegraph and vox installations |

I am actually the abandoned child of John n Val, they gave me up for adoption after a torrid affair when J was a paperboy and V was a milk maid in the old days (pre 1920's??? I was told by social services that the only way to find them was to join the Corps. Join the Corps I did and they became 2 of my dearest friends ever. We don't talk about the past anymore, I have forgiven them for abandoning me because my other daddy "Taylor" did such a wonderful job!!!!
