| Comments: | Great site guys. Just wanted to introduce myself. I was the Squadron Foreman of Signals May 01 until its final disbandment in Mar 03. I had the misfortune, along with the RQMS of having to turn the lights off. However, the ethos of the Squadron never changed and was always regarded as the elite Sqn outside of the SF, yet a breeding ground for 'like minded people'. It is testament to the fact that over 60 members of the Sqn, prior to joining their new units, they were seconded to the SF in support of the war in IRAQ, late 02/early 03. A task in which they were extensively commended.
Keep up the good work Dave Coffey ex FofS/TOT Now earning his keep elsewhere! |

| Comments: | I was at 249Sigs just before it was all closed down in 1971. I arrived in January, and left it May. The first comment I got from an ex Harrogate 'face' was "what the b***** hell are you doing here, we're closing down. I got sent to various ops, didn't have a clue what I was doing, I hadn't been trained for Comcen, I was a Radio Telegraphist. Just before we left I was shown the sights including Bugis Street and the Kai Tais. Good memories of sailing in the harbour and HMS Intrepid breaking down, with a full compliment of Marines and us Signals, we never did make it to Bangkok. Gary Spicer (Spice) |

| Comments: | I was OC Radio Troop in 1958/59 as we were initially formed from Field Signal Squadron (FE) in 1958 and were allocated a Squadron Number as with other squadrons. The Radio Troop had two subtroops - HF and VHF. HF had several Land Rover mounted 53 sets R209 Rx and Onan generators in trailer. We designed these and had them manufactured by Base Wksps. VHF had Landrover mounted Marconi VHF sets which with static installations in Police Stations and other vital points made up the IS Command Net for the island. IT Butler was the first Sqn Comd.

| Comments: | Hello you amazing mob..
My Dad served in Singapore during 65/68, notsure if 237 or 249. Sgt Geoffrey Dennis Martin, known as Den or Dennis to his mates. Dad passed away a few years back, although we used to try and get him to contact his old mates he never did. He was invalided out in 68, he never talked about what happened. I was 9 at the time. His wife, my Mam, Grace, died in 71. I would like to know if anyone remembers/knew him, we had people at the house in changi all the time, and we were always out and about doing stuff with other families. There was a cab driver/gopher, a local, his name was Pop. I have no idea what me Da did as a job, what he was like at it, was he respected, one of the lads or did the stripes make him a tw#t... I know he was on the boxing squad, won a bit too. You guys rock, I have fond memories as a kid growing up on bases in Catterick, Kenya, and Singapore. Any info on me Dad would be welcome. Thanks. |

| Comments: | I was posted to 249 Sig Sqn FARELF some 40 years ago as OC Alpha Troop. One night on Ex Besatu Padu, I was very nearly flopped over by a turtle coming up for the sea, stung by a scorpion on the back of the neck, and missed by a falling coconut. I remember Sig Hurst who was on commcen duty being completely unimpressed when I mentioned I might go delerious at any moment! In 1971, I left 249 to join The White Helmets. The MTO signed a 350 BSA over to me and gave me my full license on the spot after 3 days and doing some 600 miles around Malaysia including Fraser's Hill. I will be hugely interested in the development of this web site - it will stir memories of the amazing time I enjoyed when in my early 20s. |

Was good to see FoS Swaby and Capt Vuillamy OC listed. Sadly injury led to my departure from 646 Troop buthave been in touch with several members of the original members of the troop.
Keep up the good work |

Matt had been in hospital for several weeks with internal problems. Having been allowed home, he was making a good recovery and plans for a summer cruise. His many pals fully expected to see him at the 216 Para Sigs Reunion in May. Pete Thornton and I are composing a suitable obituary for the Wire and Pegasus. If you have any comments or suitable (?) stories about Matt, please mail them me for inclusion. Thank you. RIP Matt McBirney, sorely missed, never forgotten. |

Now living in Darwin NT Australia. Without a doubt 249 Signal Sqn was by far the best Unit I served with, in my 22yrs service. Have fond memories of the friendships made and true camaraderie. I will try and remember some of the names that are missing on some of the photos and let you know. Would be happy to hear from any ex members who still have a memory of those times. |

Was in several R&R bands/groups during my time there and married Sandy Maiden who I met while practicing at the Youth Club in Singapore. Nice to see the names on the Photos of so many people that I can remember. Those sure were some good times. Sorry to hear about Taff Dunbar. I seem to remember we nicknamed him the Zulu Warrior and he was a fantastic swimmer. Having size 15 feet probably helped. Good luck and a happy future to you all. |

Just to let you all know that Afghanistan is a shitehole. Moving into the winter - freezing at night but still warm during the day, although it's been raining of late. Most of the Taliban appear to have gone for the winter, re-group, re-arm and re-train ready for the spring offensive...oh hum, the marines are well pissed off, not fired a shot in anger out on the FOB's! Sporadic rocket and mortar attacks on Kandahar but mostly aimed at the flight line and they must be a very determined team - it's damn cold out there in the hills. Catch you all later. |

I am actually the abandoned child of John n Val, they gave me up for adoption after a torrid affair when J was a paperboy and V was a milk maid in the old days (pre 1920's???
