Most, like my mom, were from all over the west, and mixed in with other tribes over the years. Great Mother Earth will see to it, that you will find your family either here or on the other side. Make the most out of each moment though today, and make sure that even if the past, stays in the past, they can still learn about our traditions, and move forward. Find a Medicine Woman, I too was incredibly ill, if it weren't for her, I know I'd be gone, I'm here because of her. read about the culture and there lives, you'll be glad you did...Great Mother Earth and Sky be with you

Comments: I'm not computer savvy, don't know what a home page is or the http:// thing is, or how to find that out. So I'm presently writing this, not knowing if you'll even get it when I hit the sign the book button below.

I am distraught and very ill. I want to find my Native Family tree before I leave this world for the next. I have names and birthdays of several family members. My great grandmother was full blooded Cherokee. I can't seem to find her, but I've not been able to do much searching either, for health reasons.

My great grandmothers name is Emmy Lake, what information I was able to obtain on her is grossly wrong, it states she was born in Ohio County Kentucky however her birthday stated is December 6, 1888 and her death listed as March 24, 1908, which is impossible, since I met her when I was just a child of approximately 8 or 9 yrs. old, I was born in 1951 and am now 57 yrs old. RootsWeb.com concerning Ohio County Kentucky Lines, is where I've obtained the information I presently have, it also states her mother as Delilah Alverda Hoover, born Oct. 1, 1856 in Ohio County, Kentucky, wherein she died February 13, 1938. Her father is
James William Lake born July 22, 1860 which died October 9, 1939. It only lists that he was BORN in Kentucky, not stating where however, although it states he died in Ohio County Kentucky. Knowing my history has haunted me all my life because I have been discriminated against throughout my life due to my dark olive skin which grows darker during the summer if I'm in the sun that is, and then I nearly turn black, I have brown hair like my mother, grandmother, great grandmother. My mother has also passed away, but her brother told me I could come to his house and obtain a picture of my great grandmother which was full blooded Cherokee. I want so very much to claim my heritage, before I die. I wish I'd had a computer years ago, but my health has stood in the way of my search. Can you PLEASE help me ?
I live off my social security disability and have little money, but I would pay you something upon your agreement for whatever help you'd be willing to extend if any. I'd be eternally grateful. I not only wish this for myself but my children and grandchildren as well. I want so very much to put it to rest, before I too sleep. Carol

Comments: To who it may concern:

You must go to a historical library, and look up your ancestors names on the census's provided by the library through Ancestry.com, Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints www.lds.gov and Heritage Quest online.

Also look under books that are written about your family names, The Dawes Rolls and books that are about the places they grew up. Also visit the Genealogy or Historical Society where they grew up, and gravesites.

Good Luck.

He is named Storm Cloud now, but some say the name is too negative. He is grey with black spots on his rump, not too big (14 hands) and a little goofy. Could you suggest a few Cherokee names for him, please. eg goofy (maybe not so positive!); cloud; rain(a very positive thing in our country!) or anything else. Love you website!

Our group is conducting a study on the differences in social Standards of Native Americans who live on reservations with a casino and those who do not. We are interested in discovering, if any, the advantages and/or disadvantages of having a Native American owned casino on the reservation.

We have a survey that is entirely confidential and anonymous for you to fill out. It would help our research a great deal if you (and or any one else you know) would take it.

Here is the survey:
