Comments: To who it may concern:

You must go to a historical library, and look up your ancestors names on the census's provided by the library through Ancestry.com, Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints www.lds.gov and Heritage Quest online.

Also look under books that are written about your family names, The Dawes Rolls and books that are about the places they grew up. Also visit the Genealogy or Historical Society where they grew up, and gravesites.

Good Luck.

He is named Storm Cloud now, but some say the name is too negative. He is grey with black spots on his rump, not too big (14 hands) and a little goofy. Could you suggest a few Cherokee names for him, please. eg goofy (maybe not so positive!); cloud; rain(a very positive thing in our country!) or anything else. Love you website!

Our group is conducting a study on the differences in social Standards of Native Americans who live on reservations with a casino and those who do not. We are interested in discovering, if any, the advantages and/or disadvantages of having a Native American owned casino on the reservation.

We have a survey that is entirely confidential and anonymous for you to fill out. It would help our research a great deal if you (and or any one else you know) would take it.

Here is the survey:

My husband and I belong to a tribe in Ohio, but live in New York.(long way for monthly tribe meetings)He too is Cherokee, but it was thrown in his face that he was a "half-breed" by his adoptve parents :-( It can be overwhelming at times, but we are both working steadily. If i did not have to work, i would devote all of my timeto this persuit, but alas, the bills must be paid. I look forward to going through your site. Sincerely,

Comments: I recently found out on my mother's side she is related to Sequoyah, but I'm not really sure how. Unfortunately, most of the research on her father's side...the Cherokee side...little was said except that they are related to George Guess, who is Sequoyah. I know that only makes me one/eighth Cherokee, but the whole family tree hasn't been researched yet...that's just my grandfather. I'm very proud of this, because I've never really been able to fit in with white people...I always cared about things other people didn't seem to care about like animals and plants and rocks and mountains and the sky....etc...I recently read Lame Deer...Seeker of Visions and really started to understand myself (I know he was Sioux) but every since I've started praying with the pipe (a Shawnee Chief that I know...Tom Graywolf told me how), all of my prayers have been answered.

Anyway, I'm so glad there are web pages like these so I can learn some of my heritage...everything was hidden like it was shameful to be Native...especially a male Native. Everyone says they're related to a Cherokee Princess...I think it's ridiculous! I am related to Sequoyah and he might not have been a warrior, but I'm proud to say he is my ancestor!

This is an incredible site with wonderful information. I do not know whether or not I have any native american blood but my spirit and my soul resonates with the Cherokee and the wolf. I go to Seacrest wolf preserve to commune with the wolves that have grown up there.

I would love to learn the language also, both sides of my family were cherokee. I guess after the trail of tears they were afraid to tell their true nationality, so therefore it's pains taking running into dead ends. Thanks for the info. Rhonda

I would like to know more about the charokee language. My mother spoke some of it to us when we were young. I didn't know what she was saying and she would not speak in the language much before she past away. It has been years, and I would like to get back on tract. I have been so busy with my own family and now I have the time.

Hope to hear from you,

Comments: I would like to express my joy in visiting your page. For many years I have yearned to know more about my people. I say my people because as long as I can remember I have felt very drawn to the Native American beliefs. My Great Grandmother was full blooded Cherokee, I can remember as a small boy sitting on the front porch with her chewing tobbaco together, (laugh. I miss her dearly. She had visited me 2 days after death in my dream, but it felt more real could ever fell, to me. I have always had a different understanding of life than other people I grew up with. Your website filled in a couple more of the pieces for me, and for that I thank You.

Name: Gary C Merritt - Surging Mountain
E-mail address: nativeson8@yahoo.com
Comments: I am interested in the orginal ways of my ancestors, my roots are from the area surounding Rome, Georgia.
I am aware that the ancient Cherokee's were record keepers and had a written language form even before "Sequoya" published his reformation of their (the Priests/Shamans) ancient writing symbols language and sacred teachings. Most of these writings have not been seen by present day peoples and would not be accepted by the present day culture we live in because of their denial that the native Americans are and were capable of having or knowing of such profound spiritual items or teachings for thousands of years. The devotion to the "Creator", Yahowa, was a primary part of their spirituality and ceremonies of the True White Brother who taught them the correct principles to live by for the Nation, Tribe, Clan and Individuals.
I hope that the lost trust created by "KNOW IT ALL" "Well" intentioned White religious leaders, historians, and scientists will some day give away to the truth When the day comes for the ancient ways to return and people will see who the True White Brother, Yohowah, really is.
I have just spoken, I am your servant,
Surging Mountain,
GC Merritt
