Comments:Born in Burton 1941.

Emigrated with parents to Australia 1950.

Australia is sports mad! But football (soccer in Aus.) has taken a back seat until now, with World Cup finals berth in Germany 2006.

Eng v Aus? I have to barrack for my new country (56 years?)!
Hope the two never meet in Germany, because Aus will do to Eng what they usually do in cricket (Disregard the last Ashes series. That was an anomaly!). Aus will annihilate Eng! Because they are better? No! It is the old story of the student beating the master! The will to win! It is extraordinary in this country! Unbelievable, but very very real!

Love the Brewers site! History very similar to many football clubs in Aus - ups and downs - simply far more intense in Burton than in most Aus clubs. Very minor sport here until this year.

A tip to my fellow Burtonians:

If you are looking for a good long shot in the World Cup - consider Aus! What are the odds? 100-1? Go for it!

Look at their achievements in cricket, rugby (both Union & League), swimming, tennis, and Olympic sports prowess in general.

This is from a nation of only 20 million, spread over vast distances with incredible disadvantages that you can only appreciate if you have experienced them. And the heat (climate) is almost unbearable!

Very sorry to admit, but if I have a couple of hundred $ or Pounds to spare, I will put it on the Aussies. Better odds!

Cheers.

Reg Weston I worked for as a teenager delivering papers when he ran a Post Office with his wife in Winshill and Jackie Stamps I remember as a kid when he also lived in Winshill. I would recommend this site to anyone who is interested in the history of Burton Albion.

TO BE FAIR MATT MADE A COUPLE OF GOOD SAVES AND OUR STIKER`S HAD A GOOD HAND FULL OF CHANCES. BUT WHAT WAS MISSING? HEART AND SOUL I THINK THE ANSWER. WE JUST NEVER GOT INTO THE GAME, IF I`M HONEST THEN I`M NOT TOO BOTHERD THAT WE`RE OUT OF THE FA CUP I WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT WE COULD CONSENTRATE ON THE LEAGUE, AND OUR QUEST TO GET TO THE CONFERENCE. BUT ON THE DISPLAY TODAY I THINK WE WILL BE LUCKY TO FINISH IN THE TOP TEN. I AM SURE THAT NIGEL HAS SAID WHAT NEEDED TO BE SAID AND OF COURSE CONFIDENT THAT WE WILL BOUNCE BACK, LET`S HOPE THAT THIS IS BY FAR OUR WORST PERFORMANCE OF THE SEASON...BILLY

Comments:Is it me or are some Brewers fans complete morons?

Yesterday, I went to Christchurch Meadow for a friendly between Belper Town and Unibond new boys Burton Albion.

Before the kick-off, there was a minute's silence for one of our devoted fans who had died over the summer.

Fans of both teams conducted themselves admirably - apart from three drunken Burton MORONS in front of the Bowmer and Kirkland Stand who insisted on shouting to each other during the silence.

Several Belper fans told them to shut up and after several attempts they did. Then - before the silence was over, one idiot in glasses (you know who you are) grabbed my shirt and said: "Don't f**king tell me to shut up!" before issuing a series of threats.

I told him it was a minute's silence and his response was that Burton people "have manners" and that I should have told him it was a minute's silence and not to shut up.

Hmmm. Sir, you are either stupid or insane. Everyone else in the ground new it was a minute's silence and surely it's not "good manners" to grab a stranger and threaten him - or indeed to wreck a tribute to a fine man who has passed away.

It's idiots like this man and those who caused all the trouble last season who give Burton Albion a bad name in non-league circles.

Good look in the Unibond and congratulations to the Brewers players who looked v impressive in last night's 4-0 win.
