Comments:I have been an admirer of yours for quite some time. I almost feel like a soul-mate, having loved Marguerite Henry's books as a child. When I was ten, my mother read about the pony penning in the newspaper and took me to the island. That was 1960. I actually carried my savings, all of $47.00, with me, and without my mother's knowledge, I bid on a colt--and missed buying it by $2.00! I think my mother would have fainted on the spot if I had gotten that pony. I actually met Marguerite Henry AND Maureen Beebe that year--and got their autographs! It was one of the greatest highlights of my childhood.
As an adult, my husband and I went back to Virginia one year and found ourselves on the island during the week of the pony penning. It inspired me to write a children's novel, centered around a little girl who wants a pony more than anything else. Needless to say, I'm still shopping my book to publishers.
Meanwhile, I keep abreast of what is coming out in that venue. I can't wait to buy your newest book!
Thanks for being a modern inspiration!

Comments:Hi Lois!

It's cool to meet my third Lois Szymanski!I also have a Facebook friend who found me online. Thanks for finding me and posting a note.

For your daughter who is in her 20s, I have a book out about the Chincoteague Ponies that is for all ages, including adult. It has a lot of inspirational stories and pony information, plus stuff about the charity I helped start in memory of my dear friend, Carollynn Suplee. The charity, The Feather Fund (www.featherfund.org) purchases Chincoteague Pony foals for children at the Pony Penning auction each year on Chincoteague. The book is called OUT OF THE SAE: TODAY'S CHINCOTEAGUE PONY.

Thanks again for finding me and signing my guestbook!

Warmest Wishes,
:>)

I was surprized to hear of another Lois Szymanski. I have a daughter who loves horses and cannot wait to tell her about your books. She is in her late 20's and I am sorry that I did not know about your books when she was younger. I am excited about going to the book store to find your books and even at her age be able to share them with her.

Comments:Lois,

I read your message! Now I'm really glad I came to your site. How inspirational. I also looked at your list of books. They look adorable! I like mystery and spooky stories. I used to read a group of kid private eye books with my kids. I will probably try to find those Gettysburg books. Also, I did get sort of published. A psychologist couple published my story in their book (just a paragraph) about weddings. I told them about something that happened on my wedding day, and it was unusual so they put in their book. It's cool to see my name, my story and our names in the index. My dad said....but you didn't get paid, someone else did. Like you said, just the start makes a person feel like getting published IS possible, though. Every weird experience like it gives us more stuff to draw on for writing. Nancy

Comments:Thank you to all who are asking about the next book in the Charming Ponies series! The next one, "A Pony To The Rescue" is due out in October, followed by "A Pony to Remember" in November. In December, "A Pony Named Patches" will be out.

Also, my first nonfiction book is due out with Tidewater Press. "Out of the Sea: Today's Chincoteague Pony" is loaded with color photographs of the ponies. Tidewater Press is doing a great job on the production of this book, which is due out in late July.

Thank you, my readers, my friends! You mean a lot to me. Keep the letters coming!

Comments:Hi-I happened to catch part of Animal Planet's show about your story and it gave me chills. I watched it last year and never forgot how touched I was. I was able to acquire two Sea Feather books from Amazon (it cost more for the shipping than the actual book) One is for me to keep and the other is to share with my other horsey friends. I was the kid that couldn't afford a horse and read every Misty, Black Stallion, Black Beauty book I could get my hands on. Let's not forget Flicka and Thunderhead. I'm now middle-aged and luckily was able to share the horse world with my daughter. I own three and a half quarter horses (one due in March or April 2006) My mare amazingly is marked like Black Beauty. That was pure coincidence.
I just read Carollynn's story and.... just finished a good cry. I noticed the possible sale of the bracelet for the feather fund. I also think an attractive t-shirt realistic, not goofy would probably sell well for your fund. Just a suggestion. One of my dream trips is to visit the pony penning, so maybe I'll meet other grownup kids like myself someday. If you could help me find out how to see the show on Animal Planet I would appreciate it. I tried to look on the website by searching keyword Sea Feather but had no luck. Thank you for sharing your story.
