| Comments: | Well, time has moved on and Saturday nights will not be the same on SWR. For the last five or six years (maybe more??)the listeners of Sydney, Australia could tune into the best collection of album rock on Saturday nights, spanning from the 60's to the latest new releases. There are three presenters who introduced me too this wonderful station, Paul, Rob and Loyd. These three have taste in what the general public SHOULD be listening to instead of the rubbish you are forced to listen to. Mic who has the Classic Rock show on Friday AM is also a great asset to the station for album rock and as Albi says Mic is the "Glen A Baker" of SWR. For those who have been listening for the last ten years Leon will be back for the summer semester with two shows - double shot Leon , fantastic. Thats it from me, keep it locked in at 99.9FM and if you do go overseas tell a friend and spread the word. |

My other suggestion would be keep the original SWR logo but jazz it up a but, use better styled font - or even same type of logo different font and move the triangle a bit?????????????????????????????? Needs some pizzaz........how about a station icon - turn the triangle into a character................like the drum is on JJJ, it works for lots of media types ie: shootout. :) |

| Comments: | I do not believe the graffiti style logo is in your face hip hop, I do agree with Dave when he says the current logo is "old boring".
I would love to see alternatives to the current logo, maybe 'SWR' in Chinese font. Dave I like your idea of having other shows designing an alternative logo. The three letters 'SWR' would be spelled the same in Tongan and Samoan. However Chinese, Arabic, Vietnamese and Hindi have a different alphabet. Triple J has the beating drum, Triple M has that funky mmmmm, 2ser has that weird cross, nova has got that red dude with earphones, ws fm has a guitar pic, the edge has sound levels. I believe the 'SWR graffiti logo' is a pretty good a competitor. |

It only suites the one demographic (which is a very small part of SWR) It's not a HIP-HOP, Reggae, Rock, Dance, Grunge, Hindi, Chinese or pop station... It's a community station FOR EVERYONE!. A neutral logo would suite the station because it has a variety of broadcasters. If you wanted the Graffiti logo then the Chinese, Arab, Vietnamese, Hindi, Samoan & Tongan communities have the right to submit a logo in their language. Keep the same old boring logo the same... it’s an identity. |

| Comments: | G'day Michael, it does look like graffiti, because it was designed by a graffiti artist. It is ashame that toys armed with permanent markers are defacing signs and private property.
Graffiti writing, and graffiti art can be very artistic, as well as being a tool for political protest. The graffiti aerosol painted 'Lest We Forget' near the Blacktown RSL, opposite the rock climbing place is a good example of great graffiti. Having a graffiti 'SWR' logo at the front of the Blacktown showground will probably stop toys from tagging it. The reason being is because they may fear graffiting over someone else graffiti may cause trouble. Guitar Amps and Drums has really kicked off in a big way, a report of BBQ'd burnt chips and veges from the cook being spellbound with Hawkwind in the back ground is great feed back. G.A.Ds has always tried to play different songs that you will not here on other stations, much like the Krypt a couple of years ago. As the programm outlines, GADs plays progressive rock although there will be a sprinkling of other rock songs. |

Firstly SWR does not pay for the Ch9 service. Quite the contrary actually. Ch9 is a sponsor of SWR and through this sponsorship SWR has been able to establish a local news desk and service which we have long been trying to get up and is now working well. In short SWR is the winner in this deal, and Im sure Ch9 are also satisfied. Thats what god spnsorship is all about. As for the alternative logo which management is aware of. It was thought that the logo - despite being good - had too much of a "graffiti look" style and thus would not appeal to some SWR broadcasters and listeners. The current logo however is very "neutral" and equally applies to all programs regardless of age, race or ethnicity. Im sure management will consider use of the alternative logo where appropriate suuch as for stage backdrops at SDIs and possibly during parades etc. It will not however be a replacement for the curent one. With a Song in My Heart Minchinbury Manor resident, Anau Helu has had a song in her heart for all of her 70 years. Born in Tonga and with no radio for entertainment, she learned to play the piano by watching and listening to a neighbour play. She subsequently learned to play the ukelale and guitar the same way, sang in school and church choirs and accompanied herself while singing. The song in her heart keeps her young. Be inspired and find the song within you during Senior Citizens Week, when Minchinbury Manor at Rooty Hill hosts a free concert between 11.00am and 2.30pm on Wednesday 9 April. Gain a new appreciation of the Art of Song. Sing, listen or simply appreciate the instrument of voice we all have, even if we are sometimes bashful about using it. The Art of Song will include old favourites from the 50s to 90s, lullabies, rounds, ballads and songs from other millennia. Enjoy performances by soloists Yasmin Arkinstall, Noeline Saba and Jacinta Tobin, and Toongabbie Music Group amongst others, with country and western, old time favourites, Aboriginal songs, karaoke, school and community performances. UWS Golden Stave Music Therapy Centre will give unique insight into the power of song with a work-shop in which the audience can participate, Three and a half hours of continuous song. And off stage there will be fun music activities to hear your voice and listen to others. The Art of Song transcends age, gender and ethnicity. Song can give rise to a sense of wellbeing. It can have therapeutic benefits for the frail aged and those with dementia, for people recovering from an accident or for children who have learning issues. The voice can pacify or elate, it can be solo or a group. It can rouse a nation to stand proud, sign a moment of intimacy between a parent and child as in a lullaby, or create a sense of peace as in a chant. Songs can be signposts in a lifetime. In addition to the activities on Centre Stage, starting at 10.45am there will be a seminar conducted in Minchinbury Manor’s Board Room that addresses the issues of Dementia for the carers and the patient, how to recognise the symptoms, and where to find support. The Art of Song is on Wednesday 9 April between 11.0am and 2.30pm at Minchinbury Manor corner John St & Ruperstwoood Rd Rooty Hill. This is a day for the whole community to enjoy whether 5 or 95. | Comments: | I acquire the art of speaking and understanding the Samoan language from my many years of living & working in Samoa and it makes me an active listener to all Samoan language programmes broadcast live from various stations in Sydney.
Although all are informative, yet the inexperience and the deficiency in programme planning are clearly heard at my end. On many occasions, hosts have made discriminating remarks directly and indirectly to the gay-transvestite Samoan; sexual discriminating comments to the obese Samoan; individual invective remarks to another Samoan announcer if there is a conflict: usage of copyright materials such as music that has been reproduced in the Samoan language without consent or the original artists and the interpretation of world and local news. However, I am elated to comment on your Good News Samoa (Sundays from 4-6am) broadcasting’s recent improvement. For the last 4-6 weeks, quality and precise interpretation of world and local news has been well primed and aired in a professional sequence by a new host. The remarks of the hosts have been factual and unbiased in cultural and religious issues concerning Samoans both in the community as well as Samoa. | Comments: | Davo, the song intro to the white rabbit program is called "the white rabbit" by New Zealand artist Peter Posa from 1964, written by Bill Ivory and Graham Rosling. Peter had about 20 albums in NZ and was very famous there.
He also had a song called "Gonk" named after the little toy and one called "?" He toured extensively in NZ but also did tours of Australia, New Caledonia, Fiji, Tahiti and Vanuatu. |

However on the old swr website there wasn't really any other forum where broadcasters could easily communicate with listeners so now it is a bit each way. Obviously the new website is a lot better and also easier for broadcasters to use and get messages out, but old habits die hard I guess and it is also a bit of fun interacting with both members and guests. So no matter who you are go for it and please sign the guestbook as your feedback is greatly appreciated. |

| Comments: | Thanks Mark and Jack D regarding feedback for friday nights. This is one of the areas of programming that we haye been looking at. The problem is that we have to have a certain amount of foreign language shows in order to keep our licence and we must allow some decent timeslots for these programs as it would be unfair to stick them all on in the middle of the night for example. Still I agree that friday nights would be better served with a more general music format. That then leaves us with the problem of where to put the current friday programs, which isn't as easily resolved as you might think. It is up to SWR's programming committee to sort out these problems, in general they have done a bloody good job in the past, but there is always room for improvement and all listener feedback on such topics will definately be considered.

Perhaps my earliest memory of radio is legendary announcer Frank Hyde calling rugby league games. Frank Hyde was definately a major positive influence for generations of Aussies. I doubt if any sports announcer has ever come close to the passion that Frank Hyde put into his broadcasts. One of the few true legends of both rugby league and radio, Frank Hyde RIP. |
