Hello, I have visited your website a couple of times and really enjoyed reading about your methods and your classes. I like the idea of writing a letter and hosting lunch with my students. I had a question though, what do you do with students that don't want to participate or that won't open up and try in your class. I always seem to have one or two who are so preoccupied with things happening in their lives that it is very hard to get them to focus on science for the 55 minutes I have them each day. I am interested in your thoughts.
Thanks,
Rae

Claire,
I was searching for some science inquiry demonstrations when I came across your page. As I began reading and exploring your page I thought, "Wow, these are some great ideas!" My major is in Mathematics, but I will be teaching Science this school year. I have taught science before, but I had to divide my time to plan for my math classes as well. I am looking forward to solely focusing on science this year and really engaging my students in science. I like that you have student work posted and detailed explainations of the processes. Thanks for sharing your ideas with other educators.

You gave words to everything I have been thinking and feeling as I try, in my second year as a teacher, to make my 6th and 7th grade science classes meaningful and productive for my students. I love all your ideas and will start using some of them when I return to the classroom after spring break next week. Your student body and observations of minority students exactly mirrors my experience in my Philadelphia middle school. Since I began taching as a mid-life career change I feel a sense of urgency to become the best teacher I can as fast as I can. I don't have 20 years to become the master teacher I strive to be. I want to be there in 5 years! You will help me reach that goal! Thank you so much for this most valuable, instructive and supportive web site!
