| Comments: | i found your site very interesting although im not considered an atheist but I agree very much on your stance on Christianity. the old christian saying goes "god created man in his own image" id like to change that to "man created god in his own image" and after hearing and reading about some of the scriptures i can only say that this is definatly the work of man. i mean when you got a religion that had benefited from various European empires obviously your gonna get more religous rhetoric than actual spirituality but what pisses me off is that these people whith their high rightous and unapologetic attitudes say whatever the hell they want yet shield themselves with their religious rights and constantly i hear wind bags express their ignorant and bigoted views on not only secular issues but other religious organizations. and yet they are almost blissfully ignorant about their past and how much bloodshed and atrocities that many suffered by the hands of "civilized christians" and yet they have the balls to say that people with no faith and not religious are considered immoral and uncivilized, yet if you wanna talk about sexism, racisim, torture, war, the destruction of indigenous cultures and homophobia it all comes down to religous teachings if it hadnt been for people who stood up against this, well you've seen how much freedom muslims have in the middle east. anyway its a crazy world and the greatest threat is not satan or pagans or homosexuals or any of that bullshit, its fundalmentalism, ignorance, lack of communication, and fear of the unknown and if i had to make a choice between blind faith or knowledge, id take knowledge while others wait for the four horsemen |

I was watching a progamme with Richard Dawkins and members of various religious organistations. Richard Dawkins did have his work cut out , Basically he kept answering the same questions. How can you prove god does not excist if he has no evidence. So he gave the giant teapot may exist in another galaxy theory .Then spent the rest of the programme pointing this out to every other person asking the same question . It's almost like they were programmed like thoses toy dolls that speak when there strings are pulled .Repeating the same dialouge. |

Some crazy responses read... wasn't Einstein Jewish???? And surely naming scientists as believers only proves these people do not have an agenda and makes their work even more credible. Keep up the good work... Dave |

All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. John 10:28-29 28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. Romans 8:35-39 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. I HAVE DECIDED TO FOLLOW JESUS I HAVE DECIDED TO FOLLOW JESUS I HAVE DECIDED TO FOLLOW JESUS I HAVE DECIDED TO FOLLOW JESUS NO TURNING BACK, NO TURNING BACK Just so you will remember that once you have taken that step of faith there is no turning back. There is no such thing as an ex-Christian, former Christian, I once was a believer. If you ever accepted Christ as your Savior He is your Savior forever and ever. So, one day you will make an account of yourself if you like it or not or believe it or not. That isn’t my call. Remember that song? Now you know what it means. |

I don't know how you manage to remain patient (even retain your sense of humor) with people who write to you and expect you to reply to everything they ask, when those same people generally ignore the tough questions you put to them, but I love to read the correspondence, and envy your ability to remain calm. Thanks for creating a friendly place on the Web for those of us who need a break from the prevailing delusions of our culture. Just when I think there's no hope for humans, people like you remind me that critical thinking isn't as rare as it might sometimes seem. |

| Comments: | Man its about time i find some good stuff on these dumb christians. I would talk to them with logic and reason but they use something they called "blind faith". I like to call faith blindness. I am at an effort to make much of this world non-christian, because they have affected this world with too much for too long, and now they control the government, people, propaganda, media, and anything else that is mainstream. It makes me sick. I think i can say anything on here so i will.
Fuck Christians, George Bush, The govenment, Mormons, Jahova witnesses, vangelists, Pat Robertson, and any other bitches that are blinded to the truth by Jesus. They should all really stop being so fucking retarded and actually help this damn world. |

| Comments: | Brooks,
I like much of what have on your web pages. I also would like to call your attention what I think are if not some serious errors on these pages, at least some statements that you might want to reconsider. I hope you will entertain the evidence, facts, and arguments that I can present. In your response to Jon, you wrote, "I am a moral person. I care about others." Not knowing you, I can only assume this to be true. If so, you are right in saying "I want to help them out," that is, other people who are misled by falsehoods. You wrote, "For example, the Bible says that unbelievers are evil and will be tortured for eternity." This is NOT true. The Bible says no such thing. True, many Orthodox and Fundamentalist religions have promoted such a teaching. However, the Bible does not teach such an idea, and the objective person, upon examining the facts of the matter see that the Bible does not teach “unbelievers are evil” or that they “will be tortured for eternity” in a “burning hell.” If you want a presentation of these facts and evidences, I will be glad to forward them to you. John PS: I don't as yet have a personal webpage or blog. |

| Comments: | Thanks for the website. Religious belief answers usually at least two qestions: What happens after death and why are we here.
And you know what, most religions have some really simple answer: You believe in me, you have a good after-life. You don't, o'boy! And best of all, they are all mutually exclusive. Simple answers to any type of questions. That's what the more primitive side of our brain wants to hear. How else can you explain what happens in the world? Christianity is just one example. It's because of people like you that there is a glimpse of hope that we are still moving somewhere forward as a species who has the luxury of coming up with the concept of abstraction. |

Sorry, but evolution has been observed occuring: http://www.holysmoke.org/cretins/speci.htm Evolution is an accepted fact of science. Time to wake up and smell the coffee. Brooks |

| Comments: | "Evolution has been observed directly. It is a fact as well as a theory. It is a fact that is occurs. The theory of evolution explains how it occurs.
A creator who would endow its creations with reason but would then penalize them with eternal torment for using that reason would be an evil creator indeed. I don't see anything wrong with applying reason, relying on facts and using observation in making my way through life. Believing things on faith is simply wishful thinking and is ultimately a dead end. I mean, if we are to use faith to accept claims as fact, then we would have to accept every assertion anyone makes. Have a nice day. Brooks" Brooks, Hello, Evolution is not what one can observable is today. Evolution by its very essence requires at least thousands or even millions of years for it to occur (at least according to what textbooks tells us)! To “observed directly” (and that it is valid), similarly requires that one did the observation from start to end! Remember high school or college physics lab or chemistry lab? You can’t even write anything on your lab report if you did not actually OBSERVED such event happening! It requires FAITH to believe in something that is not based on FACTS! If you say that you OBSERVED DIRECTLY a “portion” of evolutionary process, then you probably are older than a thousand years old (AT LEAST!) But we both know that that is IMPOSSIBLE, right? Another problem you have is that – the fundamental problem with the basis of evolution, mutation (or random). Mutation is 99.999% DESTRUCTIVE! It is PROVEN by many people who die every year with a disease called CANCER (of all forms!). That is all for now… God bless, and may God answer you questions,…….. JOE |

| Comments: | Right on brother. I love the site. I was once a Christian as well, but one day something happened to me and I woke up.... I became educated. After going to college and studying some historical facts (as well as numerous physics and science courses), I realized what Christianity actually is. It is nothing more than an early form of government. It is a way to control the populus. What better way is there to ensure that you keep your "sheeple" believing in your bogus claims but to make them believe that blind faith will be rewarded and that "wise men" are evil and will burn in eternal hellfire. The bible (and particularly the God of Abraham) is very intolerant, and immoral. The odd thing is that Christians believe that they are the epitome of morality and everyone else is evil, when almost every atrocity man has done towards one another in history is because of their religion. |

| Comments: | As a free thinking Christian who has never read anything by Josh McDowell I find reading sites like this disheartening especially when it comes from someone who profess that they were once "Christian". We all try running away from Jesus at one point of our life and then we get to a point in our lives when we realise that we are running in the wrong direction. One day I hope you realise this before it is too late and I am praying that you do not drag the innocent down with you. I am also praying for them also. My mind is set on what I want with My Saviour and I am not parroting anything that someone wrote, except that which is written in the Bible. That is the only book I need and the blue print for my life. I have done the prodigal son thing and when the hand of God touches you to bring you back it is not pleasant. Call me weak or whatever but that is the way I see it and I have been on this earth 53 years so I know what I am talking about. Been there and done most everything. God Bless You All. |

Yeah you might think christianity is a waste of time, but why make the time to show eveyone you are a complete loser that wastes his time trying to argue something he is totally uninterested in. who puts time and effort into argueing something that people don't even care about. It just supports my suspicions of you being a complete wanker. So what if you hate God and christianity, as if we care. Dude go out and find a real hobby. Or wait a minute you aren't one of those people that hates christianity because you have always hated the world and have never managed to actually make friends. Idiot doing this isn't going to make you cool. And also with your little quotes out of the bible maybe you should read before and after the verse or are you completely stupid and don't know how to research a questionable quote. I guess you will eventually regret your stupid actions when you meet satin. God bless. I will be praying for you. P.S. You made yourself look really stupid. |

I am an ordained and consecrated (whatever that is worth) priest (ess) lol... in the Reformed Catholic Church. I have had the experience of a seminary education. I have studied dispensationalism, calvinism, etc. I have obviously studied Catholic (mythology) theology. I am finished. More than once I walked away from Christianity. I am proficient in the origins of the bible and the lost gospels. Bart Ehrman is my favorite author. I plan on teaching (which I have been doing for over 4 years) the truth about this so called loving god. I am working on a websight that will give people information so that they can make up their own minds on what christianity really has to offer them. Keep in touch. I am thinking of writing a book about leaving christianity. I see you are doing the same thing. Take care, Dr. Lisa Morris |

| Comments: | I have read through a lot of your website and I am a Christian. I find the content challenging and frustrating and sad. I am not going to tell you are wrong or going to Hell. It is not my place to judge and I don't know your heart or God's plan for your life. I am not going to "fight back". But in God's defense there is a power beyond all of us that is at work here. One aspect of that power is the power of the Holy Spirit. Which in the Bible states that those who don't believe think that the Holy Spirit is foolishness. Being someone who researched and questioned and found God to be real I do know where you are coming from. And you can think what you want about Christians and you probably think I'm stupid or unintelligent and that's fine. But understand that people who are 'saved' and believe in God can all explain an expressible power at work in their lives, something beyond reason or explination or science. Something that nothing in this world can explain or prove because it isn't something of this world, it's so far beyond that it's depth is shocking. My prayer for you is that God would reveal himself to you. Not that someone would convince you or prove to you that He is real, but that you would come to a personal understanding. Nothing you can write back to me or put in your website will shake my faith but only make it stronger, and for that I thank you. |

Sorry, but you are out in left field trying to justify something that cannot be justified here. I think that the only reason you attack Jesus because he stated that He is God and that offends you in some way. Actually that offends many people and I find that sad. |

ETERNAL SECURITY / GOD'S ASSURANCE Jn.10:27-30: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall anyone pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one. You can break your communion with God but not your spiritual union. If one truly believes and follows they are part of a living eternal organism called the body of Christ. The believer lives under grace. This guarantees God's ability to bring to a conclusion what we cannot. We were not saved by works, so we don't undo our salvation by works. One cannot keep themselves saved since we didn’t save ourselves in the first place, we remain saved by grace, by his power. Salvation is a gift freely given apart from any human effort. It does not depend on our performance nor on a certain amount of obedience in having it be permanent in our life. If you brought someone to faith in Christ and they asked how long will I be saved for? You say as long as you obey. How long can I obey? who knows. Your eternal security is not associated with your works but to Christ's work It is not a reward for good behavior Jn.10:28 “I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost.” There are approximately 85 passages in the New Testament by both Jesus and Paul which attest to salvation by grace and that eternal life is imparted as a gift to all those who believe in Christ. Salvation's checklist One of the foremost ways Satan attacks Christians is by condemning them when they sin. He makes them question or doubt their salvation. Without the helmet of salvation on our minds are open to his doubts. We are to know what we believe so we cannot be persuaded into a lie. How does one know that they are saved. First is they will become acutely aware of their sin. They will sense a struggle of doing what was once pleasurable and be repelled of it, they will no longer practice sin as a lifestyle. They will have a battle of the indwelling of sin with his new nature, he cries out who will deliver me from this body of death. They will have the power to say no to the sins that so easily trapped him, if he so chooses. They have the witness of the Spirit, the word is now understandable and He bears witness that it is the truth. They have the peace of God where before he was wrestling against him he now enjoys obeying Gods commands where before he detested them. Their attitude toward the world will change his affections will be redirected toward the things of God. They will love Christ and be looking forward to his return having the assurance of being in his kingdom. They will also love the brethren, enjoying fellowship with them. They will provoke others to love and service unto the Lord not things contrary. They have a love for the Word which sets them apart from the world that is contrary to the things of God Jn.17:14-19. They will experience answered prayers for God's will in his life and others Jn.14,15:7. He will have the ability to discern truth from error whereas before he had no guidelines1 Jn.2:27; Heb.5:13-14. They believe in the essential doctrines of the faith and are willing to defend them to some degree when they are challenged. If someone leaves the lord and goes back into a lifestyle that is lived by heathens were they saved? The parable of the seed found in Mt.13 shows how it can germinate and lose its vitality being strangled by things in the world. No plant can be firm and produce fruit without a root system that is well grounded. Jesus says He has appointed us to produce fruit in various degrees, we will all produce fruit because we are a tree the Lord planted. Trees need nourishment, they need water (the word). As Jesus said in Jn.15 we must abide in the vine, apart from him we can do nothing. He then goes on to say those who do not abide are cast out into fire. There are a number of ways to look at this; one is that it is hell, another is fiery trial that will purge or chasten the believer back into obedience. Again if we go back and take the context He is speaking about abiding in His Word, which continually cleanses us, proving one is a true disciple. Its either eternal security or eternal insecurity Jn.10:28 “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, no one shall snatch them out of my hand.” Rom.6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Jn.3:18 “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Jn.5:24 “He that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” One is made spiritually alive by having true living faith. The believer has (present tense) eternal life, he does not have judgment of his destiny but his works, as1 Cor. 3:10-15 says all that he has done may be burned but He Himself will receive eternal life. Why? because it is a free gift! The presence of sin is always with us 1 Jn.1:8 “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. So it is continually there as the old nature. When someone is always walking in the flesh they are condemned because they are not enjoying the benefits of grace. This is why so many start to question their possessing salvation. 1 Jn.2:1 “I write to you that you may not sin and if anyone sins we have an advocate with the father.” We sin when we act upon the nature that is always present. When we give over to its desires it brings forth death Jm.1:14-15. As believers we now have a new nature dwelling inside us next to the old. This death James speaks about is not spiritual death. If that were true every time we sin we need to be reborn. Paul clarifies this by saying in Gal.6:8 “For he who sows to the flesh will of the flesh reap corruption but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap eternal life.” Although sin is always with us: We have been saved from the penalty of sin by Christ’s death on the cross. We are presently being saved from the power of sin that tries to dominate us. We are no longer slaves but set free. We will finally be saved from the presence of sin when we are transformed to our eternal incorruptible bodies. The meaning of eternal life means a present possession that continues throughout eternity. It is not eternal life for a day, a month, and a year. It means what it says, it is eternal life from God, who is also eternal. If one entertains the idea that eternal life has a limit then God will also cease. Because the same word describes both God's nature and the believers standing in Christ. One cannot undo their spiritual birth anymore than they can reverse their physical birth. (2 Cor.5:17, Gal.6:15, Eph.2:10) God is not like men who who give only to take back; Titus 1:2: “In hope of eternal life which God who cannot lie, promised before time began.” Those who believe they can lose their salvation are usually those who felt they did something to gain it, that they have to keep it by their own deeds. To claim you lost your salvation by not doing something often means they received it by doing something. If works are interjected for salvation then there is no eternal security because it is always in the future tense. If salvation is dependent on what we do to keep it, then we have no assurance, because we all fall short in many things. Eternal life is a gift from God by His grace, not a command we keep. We should have more confidence and faith than the Old Testament saints (Heb.11) because we have more revelation in the word to be assured of. Rom.5:20-21...”But where sin increased grace abounded all the more.” There is always more grace than there is sin, no matter what is done God is willing to cover our faults and sins. He doesn’t give up on anyone. Rom.4:8 “Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute sin.” In our forgiven position God does not charge us with what we owe. He does not count our sins against us otherwise no one would be able to stand before him. Rom.8:30 tells us that who God justifies he will also glorify. (Rom.5:15-16 tells us justification is the free gift.) This is the future promise that he who began a good work in you will complete it Phil.1:6. In Heb12:2 it States “Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. It's not dependent on us as much as it is on him. We cooperate with the work he is doing in us and through us. Rom.8:1-9 this whole chapter is on the believers new relationship in the present and future with God. Vs.1 there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. vs.2-8 we are delivered from the law of sin and death by the death of Jesus fulfilling the spiritual obligation of the law.(Heb.7:18 tells us the Old Testament covenant was annulled 8:13 the 1st covenant he has made obsolete) vs.9-13 we now have the presence of Gods nature dwelling inside us that helps us live the Christian life. vs.14-17 the believer is now an heir of God. vs.28-29 God has a divine purpose for each believer as he conforms each to his son. vs.30-33 he has a united purpose for all and will bring to completion, no exceptions. There is nothing that can separate us from the love of God. Eph.1:13 we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise (gr. aurobon- means a down payment like an engagement ring) God does not break his promises we are engaged as the bride soon to be married. He has asked for our hand in the marriage. If we accept we are in an unconditional covenant relationship, meaning it is not dependent on us but on him. 2 Cor.1:22 “Set his seal of ownership on us and put his spirit in our hearts as a deposit guaranteeing what is to come. There are no refunds on his deposit. Rom.8:9...If anyone does not have the spirit of Christ he does not belong to him. 1Cor. 3:16 “do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you.” The spirit is his assurance to us we are owned by him. Our futures so bright we need sunglasses at night! Assurance scriptures 1 Jn.5:10: He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. V.11: And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12: He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13: These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.” When we are weak in faith we will struggle with the promises. Many say I don't feel secure-but you are, we can’t go on feelings. I haven't done enough to deserve salvation- but he’s given it as a free gift, so you don’t have to do anymore than when you first received him. I don't feel I'm living up to his expectations- repent and go back to your first love. Anything we have to say that reflects our falling short, God has a solution for. The root of the problem is that we don't really know our position in Christ and live by our condition. So assured is our eternal life that it says we are already seated in heavenly places. (positionally) 1 Pt. 1:3-5 “Who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” This concept is further expanded by statements of being kept from falling or preserved until the day of Christ. One cannot undo their spiritual birth anymore than they can undo their physical birth. Eph.4:30 says we are sealed until the day of redemption. The indwelling ministry of the Spirit is forever our eternal life is dependent upon him. Through the baptizing work of the Holy Spirit we are vitally joined to Christ and become part of his body. We are now citizens of heaven, a pilgrim to this world, a foreign resident just passing through. (Luke 10:20; 2 Cor. 5:20; Eph. 2:19; Phil.3:20; Heb. 12:19-20) He is the beginner and finisher of our faith Heb.5:9 “He is the author of eternal salvation to ALL WHO OBEY HIM.” The first act of obedience is repentance, going from unbelief to belief, exercising faith in the Gospel. If you repent and believe this puts you in the new covenant, faith is obedience. Then one follows turning over their life daily to the Lord. As Paul said he dies daily, picking up the cross of suffering denying self and having Christ live his life through you. Col. 1:20-23 “And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight-- if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard” Faith equals faithfulness, it is persevering. Then he will “ present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight. It is not how you start the race but if you finish it. Heb. 3:5-6 “And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.” We show we are Saints by our persevering; faithfulness. Proverbs says if a righteous man falls 7 times he will get up 7 times. Our part is to continue and God will be there for us, He will not forsake us. There is always grace to those who are willing. 2 Tim 2:11-13 “This is a faithful saying: for if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. If we endure, we shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, he also will deny us. If we are faithless, he remains faithful; he cannot deny Himself.” God will give his Holy Spirit to those who ask, He will always go further with us than we can with Him. Our co-operation is needed to have a victorious life of faith. God is faithful to us. 1 Thess. 5:24 “He who calls you is faithful who will also do it.” Jude 24 “Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.” This is why Paul starts off his letters with grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus. We depend on him to do the work in us by faith. Phil.1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.” vs.12...“Work out your own salvation in fear and trembling for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for his good pleasure.” Paul tells the church to bring to a completion what they already possess, their salvation, we cooperate for doing Gods will and having him glorified and our maturity. While we are to continually confess our sins, it is not to obtain or keep salvation but for cleansing. Our fellowship with God and his people can be hindered and severed for a time but our union with Christ can never be taken away. The same one who saves us is the one who keeps us. If maintaining our faith for salvation were dependent on us alone then none of us could be saved. I Jn.5:1 gives us the promise “Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves him who begot also loves him who is begotten of him”vs.11 “and this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son...vs.13 these things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know you have eternal life, and that you may continue in the name of the Son of God.” The only way one can know this is to... CONFUSING COMMANDS WITH SALVATION The Bible gives numerous commands- it tells us to pray always, does this mean if we fail to do this we lose our salvation. We are told to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength, no one is able to do this all the time. Does this mean we lose our salvation? Of course not. If we look at the examples such as Peter who denied the Lord three times and disobeyed many times afterwards. If salvation depended solely upon his obedience he never would have made it and neither would we. What of Lot? He must have lost his salvation with his compromising and what he did to his daughters. 2 Pt.2:6-9 tells us Lot died a saved man. What about Samson? If anyone should lose their salvation for compromising and sin it would be him. Yet, Heb.11:32 tells us he died a saved man. What of Moses who disobeyed God once and was not allowed into the Promised Land, did he lose his salvation? No, he was physically punished, not spiritually punished. He appears with Elijah on the Mt. of Transfiguration discussing with Jesus His coming sacrifice, something he would not be able to do if he lost his salvation. So we must not assume that every time someone is judged in the body they are also judged spiritually. What of David and his sins of adultery and murder? Surely the Bible teaches that no adulterer or murderer will enter the kingdom of heaven, but it is talking about one who continues to practice these things as a lifestyle without repentance. These acts did not lead to a loss of salvation because David repented (Ps.51:8-12) and he was cleared of all his sins. However he did reap problems as the sword never left his household. The book of Hebrews has all these individuals and others mentioned. The Bible never hides the faults nor shines the halos over its people. It tells both sides; the good, and the bad and the ugly. They are included in the Hebrews hall of faith and they received a good testimony inheriting the promise of eternal life with us. When we come to the New Testament. All the warnings are in reference to losing ones physical life and losing our rewards. We have the example of Annanias and Sapphira. Just as in the Old Testament they were judged in the body losing their physical life. The Bible is silent on whether or not they forfeited their spiritual life. We assume they were saved being part of the church. Lying to the Holy Spirit should not be confused as with the blasphemy of the Spirit. Last example and not the least is Judas Iscariot. It is assumed he was saved because he traveled with the other disciples but we know he was not. Jn.13:16-21 Jesus says he was not clean, in other words he heard the word but really did not believe it or act upon it. He did not have living faith. Jn.17:12 tells us no one will be lost, but the son of perdition, who is Judas. He fulfilled the position by the purposes of his own heart. At the last supper we find Judas did not partake of the wine (Christ's blood ) but only the bread (Jesus’ flesh) Jn.13:26-30. Mt.27:3-5. Later we find Judas is for his betrayal but it was not a godly sorrow that would lead to repentance or salvation. Acts 1:24-25 states that he fell from his potential position of apostleship not from salvation since he never possessed it. He never followed by his heart but only by the outward looking for a redeemer that would be political and overthrow Rome. He of course was trapped by his own coveting as he longed for money instead of truth. There are also numerous commands that we are to keep not for salvation but for discipleship. There are also commands that apply to both, in Mk.8:34 Jesus states, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself take up his cross and follow me.” This is a requirement for both salvation and discipleship as Paul admonishes in Rom. 6:1-11 “Reckon yourself dead to sin but alive to God.” Also in Mt.10:32-33 “To confess me before men and I will confess you before my father in heaven.” Is applied to our lifestyle if we are ashamed of him then he is not really alive working in our lives. This is not to be confused with a salvation confession in Rom.10:8-11. Sometimes people rely on their feelings. We may feel something at our new birth, we may not. As time goes on many do not feel saved, they have sinned feel ashamed and so they believe they need to ask Jesus again and again to save them, and they continue to come forward because they believe they have no assurance of salvation. This is because they do not understand what faith is and how it is placed in trusting Christ’s work on the cross. Salvation is by God’s grace in Christ's work and received through faith. God saves a person based on their faith in response to the gospel message, we are justified by God (Rom. 3:24, 28), we are declared non guilty, clothed in Christ's righteousness and now accepted as His children. We are able to stand without guilt before His law that condemns all. Paul makes it clear that once God justifies the person, he cannot be condemned or lose his salvation (Rom. 8:1, 32, 33). However our salvation is not completed until we are glorified in God's presence. And this occurs at the end of the believer's life on earth or by the rapture/resurrection, whichever comes first (1 John 3:2; John 17:24; Rev. 21:3, 4). This is why we are admonished to persevere, there must be faithfulness in our life; which is an outworking of living faith. If someone does not make it to the end in faith were they saved? This why Heb. 4:1-3 says “Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word, which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: “So I swore in My wrath, they shall not enter My rest,” although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. With all the assurance Scripture we do not neglect the part we are to do either. We are admonished to persevere, there must be faithfulness in our life, which is an outworking of living faith. If someone does not make it to the end in faith were they saved? This why Paul compares this life to a race. 1 Cor. 9:24-27: “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” We must reach the end still in the faith not dropping out along the way. Paul twice mentions a warning about running in vain Gal. 2:2: “And I went up by revelation, and communicated to them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to those who were of reputation, lest by any means I might run, or had run, in vain.” Phil. 2:16: “holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.” 2 Tim. 4:6-7: “For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” The writers of Hebrews adds Heb. 12:1-2: “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” To be in the faith means one will be faithful as the fruit of their trust. When one falls in sin they get right back up ask for cleansing. While we can wrestle over what the demarcation line is for losing salvation, we do know Scripture makes it clear the only unforgivable sin is the Blasphemy of the Spirit. 2 Pet. 2:20 says, “For if, after they have escaped the pollution's of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.” If one is questioning where they stand, they need only to repent and be renewed. 2 Tim. 2:21 “Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.” Then, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life,” will be your assurance. |

| Comments: | I see your site hasn't changed much over time. I used to be a church going Christian, and while that changed, I still never could reconcile the problems I found while researching the entire question of origins.
I don't believe in a personal loving God anymore, concerned with every detail of every human being's life. I believe life is what life is and if you have the resources, drive and education, you will succeed while laziness, and often circumstances, can destroy human life. I feel that much of the time when a Christian sees God's intervention in things they are reading something into the picture that they want to see. It doesn't matter how things go, I am told, it's God's will. Unfortunately that makes no sense alot of the time. On the flip side of the coin, evolution, upon very close examination, is one of the biggest jokes imaginable. It demands that pure blind chance and accident goes through millions of improbabilities and impossibilities to create billions of functional situations, from the universe and all the planets, to human beings, to animals to every bug and microbe. Such an idea is inconceivable. Budhism involves the worship of a deified human being, and many other forms of idolatry, including the worship of rats and cows (hey, if I could get sugar food, a castle, and a few followers I might grow whiskers and squeak too)which have no more power than the imaginary kind assigned to them. Scientology seems to indicate that WE are Gods, and a quick look in my mirror discourages this view. Especially when my most impressive miracle is making it rain (washing a car of course). Humanity and life are far too complex to have simply happened. The ability of a machine such as the human mind to control conscious and non conscious functions, to regulate body growth, function, etc, is something that blind accident cannot explain. Just my views. If anyone wishes to e mail me in response, I am glad to hear from them, but I must insist on being showed the same respect I've shown here, no bashing or name calling, I will delete without response. Cheers. G. M. |

| Comments: | I have seriously spent about 3 hours now perusing your site, and will be back for more. Thank you for putting all this out there! As an ex-Christian it's particularly interesting to me to reflect on the complete idiocy that I was indoctrinated with, that I had to work so hard to break away from. My favorite thing was the Jesus quote about hating your father and mother and yourself to follow him. It brought back this memory of when I was young and in some Bible study and this passage came up. They tried to explain it away by saying that what he REALLY meant was that you should love him soooo much that your earthly love for your family would seem like hate in comparison. That memory gave me a good laugh. Can you believe that? People will do anything to hold on to their security blanket. What a gigantic, laughable stretch, like so many other teachings they so fervently advocate to explain away stuff like that. I am so relieved I've got my brain back. |

I did get a good laugh, it looks like you have been going strong for sometime now. You probably will continue do to so in the future as well, Obviously because of the length of this sites existence, well have a great life and I guess we could say that when everything is said and done the reall truth will become a lot clearer in the future. |

| Comments: | My name is Tracy Welch, myself and my friend, Chyrisse Tabone are Independent Filmmakers. We are currently working on a documentary which chronicles the experiences of women who have had an abortion prior to the Roe v Wade decision.
We would like to report on their experiences; whether on camera, or simply by narration. It is our intent to distribute this documentary to all who will have it. These stories need to be told, we simply cannot return to the past. We are not the next Michael Moore, we are simply two concerned women. Chyrisse is a self-employed Environmental Scientist, and I am known to many as Ellen and Noah's mom... My point here is, enough already! It's time we do something about what our government is doing to the rights of women in America. We could use your help. If you would be willing to pass on this information, it would help us a great deal. Sincerely, Tracy Welch and Chyrisse Tabone TracyDigs2@aol.com Chyrisse@aol.com |

| Comments: | Sir, firstly my name is not Dick.
Secondly, the Bible is written heavily in metaphorical language and parables. When it says things like "If you right hand causes you to sin, cut it off", it doesnt mean literally. And yes there have been cases historically in the Bible where people have died, battles have been fought etc, and you can wave this in my face and say "ooh doesn't it make you proud to be a Christian". Well, so what? I'm sure in the past there have been people from your country who have commited terrible crimes and slaughtered millions. Shall i then wave this in your face and say "Aren't you proud to be a part of your country?". You are arguing at a pointless battle, no matter how much more intelligence, reasearch, evidence and wit you have than me. Try to realise this please. You are thoughtlessly and obnoxiously messing with people's peace of mind and way of life. Just give it a break and do something resourceful rather than fritter away your life trying to prove a point. It's extremely immature. I know people at school who do it, because they like the attention. You can take research and descriptive lexis to the highest degree, but at the heart of your mask of facts, figures and information, you're just being childish and almost ridiculous. Sorry to put it so bluntly. Matt. |

I can understand why people feel that way about christianity and the church, but not jesus himself. Please understand that christian spirituality is not the same as christianity. Many tragic things have been done in the name of christianity and for that I am ashamed; however, don't base your belief in Jesus upon the actions of "christians". Good luck to you my friend. |

| Comments: | Well done! An excellent site! You really know your stuff. Just to let you know that there are people who appreciate the effort you put in. I am a former Christian fundamentalist myself and try to do my part for reason by handing out pro thought/anti scripture leaflets and such, though I'm certainly not as knownlegable as you. It's also nice to hear an American who ISN'T an evangelical, here in Ireland, and in Europe generally, America is becoming synonymous with Bible-bashers, which is a genuine shame.
Anyway, keep up the good work. |

I, myself am opposed to hypocrites and Christian fear spreading bastards who's only wishes is to become a facist, absoludicrous controller of Humans religion that will control every aspect of life, like the secret shadow government of America that will at least try to take over the world and destroy free minds and cultures as we know it. To hell with those bastards- They will will be the ones burning in Inferno, not those who don't choose the proclaimmed, overrated "Path of Rightousness and Divine." | Comments: | This site has alot of interesting info to get a person to think about thier faith. Esspecially the contradictions where Jesus said you must hate your family to be his disciple. And then the commandment to honor and obey your parents. The problem i see with MOST "Extreme" christians andbelieve me because i once thought the same way. Is that they won't step outside of themselves. They wont ever consider that thier beliefs could be wrong, they might listen to what you have to say but in the back of thier mind they view an unbeliever as blind just because he doesn't follow Jesus. My Question is why are we destined for eternal torture and pain just for being born. Why? Why cant people stop spreading fear and religious judgements. Cant you judge things for yourself? Cant you love out of true commpassion. Isnt it more beautiful to see that even though there is corruption all around us in this world to try and change it to do something about it by our own human virtue. But no the Christian would say "what human virtue! there is no virtue in humanity for all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. I agree all have sinned. Nobody is perfect in fact everyone is far from perfect. I think humanity should have a religion of Beauty. We should look at the beautiful in life the sun the grass and the air going into our lungs if people WORKED to make things beautiful to both mind and sight the world i think would be a better place. |

| Comments: | I refuse to beat you down for your beliefs. I believe with my whole heart and know for a fact that my best friend, Jesus Christ, is alive and ever present. Jesus has saved me from so many things and He's given me His everything. Again I won't bash you for your opinions... because that's not what a TRUE Christian would do. You might feel Christians are idiots and hypocrites.... but don't "categorize" those of us who you've never even met. I haven't passed judgement on you because one day you will have your judgement. I wanted to let you know that even though our opinions are night and day different, I still love you and respect you as a person. I hope one day you can end your search for truth and find the only One that will make you whole... Jesus Christ. God Bless! |

| Comments: | I want you to know that I understand so very well what you are going through. I do hope that you can make some christians see the bible for the cruel and man made book that it is but, your efforts will be more for yourself than for them. There is something about the mind of a person who believes in the supernatural and who believes such extroidinary claims without evidence that rational thought cannot reach. I sang in the choir and went to church for thirty years before I allowed myself to question the absurdity of Gods and I mean all Gods, not just the murdering tyrant of the christian bible. The huge majority of people have to come to grips with their belief first and then you have a person that you can help. My best wishes are with you. Jeffrey |

| Comments: | Two things: First off the definition of hell: Being 300+ miles from your destination with kids in car when the loud noise you hear informs you that you have a serious problem even though you inspected your car before leaving home, followed by the discovery that once said problem is fixed by some mechanic you have never met before, the balance for your tip will barely buy lunch.
Definition of devil: Your step kid who never liked you from the beginning being along for the trip. Seriously, your site and many like it have one good quality; they give people a chance to examine theif beliefs under an essential acid test. This is a very good way to find out why one believes what they believe. I perused your site and others for a good while and managed to learn much, but am unswayed as far as believing in a higher power. I have however found that those who embrace evolution as an alternative belief may argue chemistry all day long but simple, to the point questions can leave them with nowhere to go. A guestbook is not where I wish to be specific. I hae asked many questions to recieve only silence and ridicule, and this, among other things, convinces me that evolution is merely a crutch for those who hate Christiandom. No, I am not a church going practicing Christian, but I am a researcher. Regards |

| Comments: | some people believe that hell is not a place of torment in the physical sense, but the emotional. Hell is a place entirely devoid of Love, God is Love. God is not in Hell. Therefore it could be interepreted Hell is where God isn't. If God is not predominately in the culture of a certain society, what would be the point for them to follow the rules of God. Such as not to kill then things happen such as the genocide of Rwanda. food for thought |

| Comments: | AND YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO TELL ME I AM NOT NORMAL!!!!!
Hi Kees Droog, Christmy Strength, Polvo de la Tierra, Prosper, Kleintje, Knillis Friso, and now you are even using Mr Efe's name????? That is very nice that you invite your self with many different names on this web site area777.net, that I thought is for talking to other people about the truth of God's Word, not to our self, with many different names????? What I would like to know is if any of the moderators know that this is one person, with all these different names????? May God have mercy on him. What I would like to know is if this is normal for all the people on these web site do all of these names belong to only one or two people, well I know Tom Holt, and Ken Bagwell, and I do not believe they would play games like this with God's wonderful Word. I am a person that spent all my life reading the Bible with very little to no understand and now only in the last few years I am starting to understand the Word of God by His great grace and Mercy, so there are many things that I do not understand still so I could be wrong about this but it does not seem to me as if this is the right thing to do to go on web sites with many different names to make people think that it is many people talking when it is only one person talking????? Is this right ?????Please explaine for me Thank you! ChristmyStrength, Kees Droog, Prosper, Kleintje, Polvo de la Terra Knillis Friso, they are all the same person????? Please advise???? I do believe this is a great deception and I do not think that a person that calims they are one of the elect should be involved in this kind of deception????? |

You may also want to read the DaVinci Code by Dan Brown, I found some of the information amazing. I thought I was the only one in the world with common sense. I don't understand how Christians can be so blinded. |

| Comments: | It is very easy to take one sentence or statement, and be critical, all the while completely ignoring context. To ignore context is to expose one's irresponsible critique of any document.
By the way, this page is malicious in its intent. How is one supposed to trust a person who is at first narrow minded and intent on destroying something that for MANY has changed lives for the good. I surrender that there are many who use Christ to serve their own causes, rather than truly following Him. A person who truly follows Christ, makes the world a better place. The problem is that many haven't a clue about what it means to follow Christ. That is NOT a reflection of Christ Himself, but of the depravity of mankind who pervert and twist much of what was intended to be good. A responsible reply would be much appreciated. |

Oh and here's a thought, stop being arrogant and just read the book there's not one fault in it. And don't take everything out of context either. We'll see what happens when we're all gone just wait. You know they've already started implanting people with that thing and the EU is coming back. Repent. and do reasearch on it and don't leave anything out and quit being arrogant. |

| Comments: | Wow, what a wonderful site you have here. I think every idiot christian fundamentalist should read this site, and seriously think about what you have written. What a terrible religion. If that one Roman emporor (I forgot his name) hadn't converted to christianity, then the world would've been a better place. I have never understood why christians believe what they believe. Nothing about the religion makes any sense. Well, I'm glad you had the courage to create this site and expose christians and their beliefs for what they really are. I wish you luck on expanding your site! |

| Comments: | Wow, this is great! I'm currently trying to break it to my (obsesses Christian) parents that I'm an atheist and my dad is having me read all this crap, trying to "convert" me again. So I thought I'd fight back a bit and find some atheist stuff.
Everything you say is so true! There are a couple places where you took things out of context and stuff, but as a whole it's completely true. I asked my dad (who likes to think of himself as quite the scholar) some of the questions you wrote down and he was stumped, for the first time in all his 50 years! Now I'm more sure than ever that Christianity is bogus.=) Oh, and if you want to get a laugh, go to www.landoverbaptist.org. Oh man, it's absolutely hilarious. |

| Comments: | this is the biggest load of bogus I have ever seen... and I don't mean Christianity, I mean your feeble attempts at twisting. U've proved nothing, and no matter how many times ppl on this site have attempted to change or persuade contrary, their argument has been so much a pile of dung that it had me laughing on the ground. You are sad cases, and using Ezekial to base ur case is both sad and stupid. You have totally twisted God into something evil and demonic, which he is not!
John 3:14-16 " And as moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whosoever believeth in him, should not perish but have eternal life, for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." JUDGEMENT IS COMING! Just as God told the ppl of Israel to smite their enemies in Ezekial so is God coming back to smite you. You may want to look at the context of the verses you use, otherwise your argument has no basis. It is when ppl sin and move away from God that they are punished, that is why the ppl in Ezekial were struck down, that is why unrepentant homosexuals will be struck down, and that is why you atheists, humanists, pagans, satanists, muslisms, budhists.... etc. will be struck down. There is only one true God. Everybody has a god. but is yours the true one? If your money? friends? family? Mine is God and unless you surrender all... you will burn in hell. |

| Comments: | Just wanted to say I loved your site. It was very explanatory and showed very concrete evidence. I also thought I'd tell you another point that makes the bible unbelievable: Why is it, that, it is the only historical documenting of these things happening? I'd think plenty of civilians would have written down something like the plagues happening or a man healing a blind man from just touch. That is, they'd write it down if it had actually HAPPENED. |

| Comments: | Interesting. Remember never to be irrational when talking with irrational people, but you do that well for the most part. It is hard to talk to die hard Christians, especially the minister like ones. They usually tend to raise their voices first and they are so blocked off to another's ideas that is sort of scares me. I was talking to one of those the other day, before I even knew he was Christian. I should have known when he brought up the term "absolute truth," but it still didn't click. We were discussing what absolute truth was because there are so many opinions out there - who's is right? How do you know? And I said that no human can tell another human what this truth is, but a rock can tell a human. And to this he laughed in my face without even considering any meaning in what I had said. The only completely real truth we know is fact, fact without opinion. The rock would be there whether or not human beings are in existance, therefore it would know. All this guy said was that that was stupid because a rock can't talk. In my opinion, the only opinion that is completely true is that nothing means anything. What do you think?
P.S. Speaking intellegenty and tolerantly only pisses them off more. Isn't that funny? |

| Comments: | Interesting webpage of a christian's perspective of animal rights
_________________________________________________________ Do animals have rights? Scripture which may be humanitarian in origin: `(Leviticus 22:28; Deuteronomy 22:6-7)` Do not kill mother and young on the same day. This could be: humanitarian in origin. to build up the flock. to avoid an unknown pagan custom. Scripture which only seems humanitarian in origin: `(Exodus 23:19)` Do not cook a baby goat in its mother's milk. This is to avoid performing a pagan rite of the time. (clarified in The NIV Study Bible footnotes) `(Exodus 22:30; Leviticus 22:27)` Animals must be 8 days old to be sacrificed. This is an example that Jewish males are to be circumcised on the 8th day. `(Genesis 17:12; Leviticus 12:3)` `(Leviticus 22:24-25)` Castrated animals are not an acceptable sacrifice. This is an example that human males are not to be castrated. `(Leviticus 21:16-20; Deuteronomy 23:1; Isaiah 56:3)` `(Deuteronomy 25:4; 1Corinthians 9:9-10; 1Timothy 5:18)` Oxen have the right to eat of the grain they tread. This refers to humans, not animals. Clarified in `(1Corinthians 9:10)`. The last two list items prove sacrificial animal rights have nothing to do with ordinary animals. (An oxen is a castrated bull.) Conclusion: Scripturally, ordinary animals have no rights. Yet, God created animals and saw they were good. Like with anything on this earth, Christians are the stewards not the owners. Even though all the animals in the world are not worth one human, stewardship is still a duty to be performed. The earth and all things in it must be treated with proper respect. `(Genesis 1:24-31)` Christians must focus on 'proper respect'. Anything can be made into a god. Money, sex, power, environmentalism, and animal rights are just a few examples. Questions to ask before becoming concerned over animal cruelty: Will the cruelty be an example for cruelty to humans? (reverse of oxen have the right to eat of what they tread) Is the cruelty for pagan worship? (leading people away from God) Is the species as a whole going to be effected? (poor stewardship) Questions to ask before taking action against animal cruelty: Will hindering the cruelty hurt humans? (medical research) Will hindering the cruelty use physical resources needed for humans? (money needed for the poor) Will hindering the cruelty use spiritual resources needed for humans? (Christians wasting time) Christians should concentrate on humans. Which would a Christian rather tell God, "I helped save a soul.", or "I helped save a dog."? It is easy to form deep bonds with pets, loving them almost as children. If pets divert attention from God's work, those pets become an object of worship. Christ's sacrifice cannot be for a dog. |

by Janaka Perera, The Buddhist Channel, March 22, 2005 Colombo, Sri Lanka -- Buddha Sasana Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake on March 19 blasted bible-toting bogus charities that were exploiting the tsunami disaster. He was addressing the two-day Global Buddhist Conference on “Buddhist Humanitarian Services in a Post-Tsunami Context” that commenced at the BMICH, Colombo, Sri Lanka. The conference was held to launch an international Buddhist relief organization on the lines of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent with the aim of formalizing Buddhist relief operations that the December 26 tsunami activated. Said Minister Wickremanayake: “Some people, who come here in the guise of helping our country in her hour of need, do so with ulterior motives. They have been reportedly engaging in unethical religious conversions. Whatever you may call them, taking advantage of people’s poverty and helplessness is despicable. I say with full responsibility that we as Buddhists condemn such actions whether they are pursued directly or indirectly. We have already warned them. Over 200 Buddhist temples were destroyed or damaged in the tsunami. When we asked for aid some responded but gave hints of their agendas. We told them that we weren’t interested in their aid and asked them to keep their funds. We Buddhists have dignity and self-respect.” Extending the government’s well wishes to the planned project, Wickremanayake urged the organizers not to confine such an organization to disaster management but also to extend to other areas of Buddhist activity, since there was a wealth of knowledge that Buddhists worldwide could exchange. . The Buddhist Resource Centre of the Asian Buddhist Congress organized the conference, where over 500 members of the Buddhist clergy and laity participated. Delegates from Asia, Europe, America and Australia were in attendance. The conference concluded on March 20. Delivering the keynote address, Asian Buddhist Congress President Olcott Gunasekera said that: over the years some foreign funded non-governmental organizations have become fronts of foreign governments, of Christian fundamentalists aiming at unethical conversions and of separatist movements. According to him, the main criterion for registering such NGOs is the amount of money brought in for the “3 R” of Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction. After the tsunami, a plethora of un-elected and unrepresentative foreign NGOs had begun to operate in Sri Lanka, Gunasekera pointed out. He further said: “There are many vivid instances reported of some of these NGOs brazenly and openly engaging themselves in proselytizing. The tsunami has provided a new ground for unethically `harvesting’ souls for Christianity.” The ABC President regretted that Buddhists were a disorganized lot. Buddhist monks engaged in humanitarian projects often worked in isolation and were unaware of NGO machinations. Consequently, some of them had fallen prey to foreign-funded groups that dangled their dollars in support of their work. “One cannot discard the allegation as wholly untrue that there is today an undercurrent to destabilize countries using such unrepresentative NGOs. This also is an additional pointer for the need for a truly Buddhist infrastructure to meet disaster situations. The temple and the village base have to be strengthened. They should also have an organization at the national and international levels to support them.” He noted that the ground was today very fertile for a Buddhist Humanitarian Services Movement and called upon all those present to help in making it a reality. American-born Venerable Dhammaruchi said: “The recent tsunami disaster in South Asia, catapulted the need for just this kind of Buddhist organization to the forefront. Why, because, unlike the Red Cross or the Red Crescent, there some psuedo-charitable organizations with a rather cruel agenda of exploitation, which began to surface in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, India and Thailand immediately after the tsunami disaster.” Calling it “carrot-and-stick-compassion,” the monk named some of these bogus charities – World Help, Samaritan Purse and Advanced Native Missions. He alleged that all these organizations had at their core conversion agendas hidden behind their backs, and in some cases, not quite so hidden. “When Buddhists help other human beings,” said the Ven. Dhammaruchi, “it’s for the sake of helping other human beings, not for the sake of trying to make more Buddhists; we don’t help another human being and then try to force a copy of the Dhammapada down his throat.” He lauded the many tsunami victims, who when approached by these groups, refused to accept their help. “They (the victims) have made it known that the tsunami may have taken away their homes, their family members, their friends and their livelihood; but that neither tsunami nor converters will take away their dignity or their religion. Good for them!” The Most Venerable Dr. Ayukusala representing the Central European Sangha said” The dignity of the helped people, respect for the cultural traditions, and emphasis on creative solutions are the three main principles of our work.” Dr. Ayukusala was formerly Prof. Mirko Fryba of Switzerland. Coordinator, Buddhist Resource Centre, Dr. Hema Goonatillake compared the launching of an international Buddhist relief organization to the historic occasion of the establishment of the World Fellowship of Buddhists over five decades ago. Among the others who spoke was the Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siam Sect, the Venerable Udugama Rathanapala Buddharakkithabidana and the Mahanayaka of the Amarapura Sect, the Venerable Rajakeeya Pandita Davuldena Gnanissara. |

| Comments: | Christianity: Is It Self-Destructing?
By Stan Grimes, stangrimes.com, Nov. 21, 2004 San Francisco, USA -- This crazy world of ours is near destruction, but is it because of some wild collective self- fulfilling prophecy? Do we want to self- destruct? Have we been taught the need to self- destruct? I wonder. The last election made me worry even more. The so-called moral majority won comfortably. We all know the statistics. A great many of the moral majority is made up of evangelical Christians. This large group of believers, along with many other Christian belief systems, preaches the second coming of their Christ. The prelude (or perhaps a parallel) to this second arrival is basically the destruction of the world. Could the collective power of suggestion by Christians lead to the end of this earth? I say that it’s possible. If we consider the Muslim belief, which counterbalances the worldwide Christian movement, the possibility of self-destruction seems quite likely, if not inevitable. Muslims believe that by murdering those of the Western culture (considered devils) they will be assured some high position in a mythical hereafter. Christianity has always been a religion that proselytizes, knocking on the doors of nonbelievers and even enemies trying to convert them to the way of Christ. Because? Christianity has always taken a monolithic stance or a monotheistic stance. This stance has always been considered arrogant by other religious systems, thus, a natural source of tension between paradigms. Buddhism cannot be included. Their beliefs have been somewhat diluted over the course of centuries. Fact is, Buddhism may be our saving grace, if such a thing can exist. After all, they do not necessarily believe in an afterlife. Their belief hinges on the mind of the individual, finding the path to Enlightenment. With any fortune or karma, mankind will look inward to discover his/her salvation. Hinduism? Hinduism is so steeped in tradition and the idea of reincarnation that they can barely keep their cows fed. Did Christians make up their minds hundreds of years ago (actually thousands) to self- destruct? It seems quite possible to me. It may seem ludicrous to some, but how close was Hitler to creating the Third Reich? How close were the Romans to complete world domination? All that it takes is a charismatic leader, one that has bamboozled his/her citizens convincingly. One person can set a nation to war. Imagine what millions of citizens can do. They can destroy a world. ------------ Enjoy the unusual in writing? Try Stan's Place at http://stangrimes.com or email Stan Grimes: stan.grimes@verizon.net |

| Comments: | Religious tensions within home
By Li Xueying, The Straits Times, 11 Mar 2005 Singapore -- WHAT'S in a bag of joss sticks? Too much, it seems. While shopping for Chinese New Year groceries this year, my mother bought some incense. It's customary, she said, to burn offerings to protect the family in the coming year. The bag was passed to my younger brother. He refused to touch it. He had, you see, converted to Christianity two years ago, and is now an active member in a charismatic church. He believes joss sticks and paper money are pagan. Carrying the bag would be wrong. My family is agnostic. Burning incense is reserved for Chinese New Year, Qing Ming Festival and our grandparents' death anniversaries. To us, it is not so much a religious ritual as it is a cultural custom. But already there is some uneasiness within my family. What more for families who are Buddhist or Taoist - the faiths of a majority of pre-'65 Singaporeans? This is an inter-generational tableau playing out in many families. As church leaders tell me, tensions do arise when they win over young converts. Strain often arises in a family when a member converts to another religion, no matter which. But because Christianity is fast gaining popularity among the post-'65 Chinese, it has become the religion that often comes up against the traditional faiths of their parents. The proportion of Christians among the Chinese increased from 2.4 per cent in 1921 to 10.6 per cent in 1980. By 2000, 17 per cent were Christians, overtaking Taoists as the second largest group after the Buddhists. In contrast, Malays and Indians have largely stayed with their traditional faiths. It is also rarer that a Chinese converts to Islam or Hinduism. So what accounts for the growing affinity for Christianity among younger Chinese? First, the post-'65ers are, by and large, a better-educated generation than their parents. Socialised into an English-stream system, they tend to be attracted to Christianity, perceived as a modern religion. They view their parents' faiths as superstitious and illogical, as sociologists Eddie Kuo and Tong Chee Kiong noted in a 1990 Census monograph. Second, as the monograph notes, the evangelical Christian movement has been 'particularly active since the early 1980s'. Today, half of the Christians are converts, compared to the 90 per cent of Buddhists, Muslims and others born into their respective faiths. This has led to what Prof Kuo calls 'an inherent tension' in families. He told me in an interview: 'In Singapore, things change so fast there is no time to adjust. In other countries, a change in religion may take place over a few generations so there is a buffer zone. Families here are forced to confront the change overnight.' And so, difficulties arise. For instance, Taoist parents may unthinkingly light joss sticks, whose incense wafts into their children's room. I know of an eldest son who refused to hold the joss sticks at his Buddhist father's funeral. His family is not speaking to him. Parents are hurt when children believe that they - non-Christian believers - are destined for hell. It doesn't help when some parents take the hardline route, and ban their children from church. One man, now a pastor, was thrown out of his home. As a society, Singapore has done a wonderful job in maintaining harmony among the diverse religions. The Government is insistent on the cultivation of a common space, while the religious groups themselves are assiduous in avoiding stepping on one another's toes. But it's different at home, behind closed doors. The emotional bonds between loved ones tear down the walls of politically correct niceties. Harsh words are said, camps are drawn. Some churches recognise this potential conflict zone. So City Harvest Church, for example, makes its members who are aged below 21 get a parental consent form signed before they can attend church. But what happens if religion itself is the source of disharmony between family members? There is no easy answer, and it probably can never be resolved. The family has to work out some mechanism to cope with the differences so they will never be brought to boiling point. Pastor Lawrence Lim of New Creation Church said: 'We counsel the kids to be gracious, educate their parents so they understand Christianity. Then, the misunderstanding will be lessened.' Communication - and respect - has to go both ways. As a friend, whose mother is a Buddhist, said: 'I have heart-to-heart talks with my mum about our religions.' And compromise. Be open. A Catholic friend has no qualms holding joss sticks at funerals. 'It's a sign of respect for them. God understands.' Indeed. For what is a bag of joss sticks, except for the meaning that you invest in it? |

| Comments: | That response gave me the best laugh I have had in a while. It even caused me to spew my tea all over my monitor and it's a Sony Trinitron, so it was quite a bit! My "opinion" on logic is not an opinion; it's an ACTUAL part of the scientific method. I do not need to prove that Christianity is the truth. The burden of proof, according to the logical principle of parsimony (also part of the scientific method), is on those that make claims "out of the void." The question is not what I can disprove; it is what I can prove. Just because I cannot disprove that every night when I sleep aliens play on my computer and leave the moment I wake up, doesn't mean that theory is worthy of serious thought. Read up on rational skepticism and the scientific method. And if you don't understand things as you say, then I suggest you don't start hurling insulting comments on things you know nothing about. I don't mind answering questions, but I DO mind "OMFG! YOU ATHEISTS ARE IGNORANT PPL WHO HATE LISTENING TO GOD'S MORAL WORD!!! LOL WE R SMARTER!!" If you have questions, I suggest going on the forums, we're nice people unless you start being ignorant. |

Ok then, here are some reasons as to why I am open minded: * I have studied all of the religions in my bible study, at school, and on my own. * I have analyzed them and tried to understand the other religion’s reasoning. * I have had conversations with other people from different religions and have received their side of the belief * I have not always been a Christian. As for stating why Christianity is the truth, if you got me to talk about that subject, I could go on for hours and hours, until my fingers fell off from typing. But to save me the time, because my sister needs to use the computer right now and is hanging over my shoulder, let me ask you, you never said why Christianity is not the truth. You simply stated that it wasn’t. “Nobody wants your opinion. It is irrelevant to logic.” Is that NOT an opinion? You said, “…we analyze things rationally and skeptically…” and then you said that I should be in a special education program and you never considered that I analyze things rationally and skeptically also. You all worded some questions to seem confusing to me, and as I have told you all before, I am a 14 year old girl, and to many people my age, things like what you said are confusing at first. And to tell you the truth, I am not a nobody. I have friends, family, and people around me who care about me and trust me. I also have a God who created me for a purpose and God never creates a nobody. Even a homeless man who sits at a bus stop all day is not a nobody because that man could remind the thousands of people who drive by him each and every day that they should be thankful for what they have. Again, I remind you that I am not in a special education program. And although I do pick up my textbook quite often (it’s one of my teacher’s best friends), the novels that I read represent important issues, and they put the ideas in writing in a way so that people are interested in the ideas and actually consider them. As you said, “I'm sorry, but there's a point when you have to call a moron a moron.” I agree with you. It’s just like you have to call a book a book and the truth, the truth. Fortunately, I am not a moron, and I have done my research. |

| Comments: | Your previous post only confirmed my suspicions. You did not present one bit of evidence of why you are open-minded, but simply just asserted that you are. You see, INTELLIGENT people do not just say "Oh, I say I'm right, so I don't need to provide evidence." Instead of stating WHY Christianity is the truth, you simply just stated that it is.
"In my opinion, I am not assuming anything because I know that this is the right religion." AND "The thing is, all other religions just don't add up properly or don't seem right to me." Nobody wants your opinion. It is irrelevant to logic. "All you have to know is that I have studied all of the major religions, and have answers to many of the questions that you all have presented me." Talk about a hypocrite. How do you know *I* didn't? And how am I supposed to analyze things as you suggested? Am I supposed to come up trivial information on a nobody? I sure as hell hope you're not in a special education program, because if you are, then there is no hope for you. Forget reading your novels, why don't you pick up a TEXTBOOK? "I never meant that what you said about our religion was wrong to do, but trying to put pressure on us by making fun of us in our education, our 'helpless ways'(as you try to convince us) and many other things isn't exactly right." I'm sorry, but there's a point when you have to call a moron a moron. Especially when they don't do they their research. |

Comments: Actually, although novels do not always present facts, they do often show ideas that are true. First off, you are not forcing me to relinquish my beliefs, nor are you holding a gun to my head, and also, I AM NOT ASHAMED OF MY BELIEFS, MY GOD, AND LEAST OF ALL, MY SAVIOR!!! To you, it may not seem like the questions that you are giving me are confusing, but have you any idea of my background? Did you "analyze things rationally and skeptically" to find out my history? For all you know, I could be in a special education program (but I will reassure you that I am not. Thanks for asking though). Perhaps you did not know this, but just because I view things in a way that does not seem as intelligent as yours doesn't mean that the truth that I am trying to spread is wrong, so stop trying to bring my education into this. All you have to know is that I have studied all of the major religions, and have answers to many of the questions that you all have presented me. Oh, and being open minded doesn't mean that one can't be steadfast in ones beliefs. I am very open-minded, but I just haven't found any other religion that is the TRUTH. In my opinion, I am not assuming anything because I know that this is the right religion. If a religion that I know of comes up, and it is more truthful than Christianity, I would gladly accept it. The thing is, all other religions just don't add up properly or don't seem right to me. I never meant that what you said about our religion was wrong to do, but trying to put pressure on us by making fun of us in our education, our "helpless ways"(as you try to convince us) and many other things isn't exactly right. And factual statements do not hurt. If they did, I would not follow in Jesus's ways. Thanks for providing a way to spread the light |
