I will probably try to add about 12" to the width of a MiniMax 1550 VMax and modify it instead. I am convinced that the best way to get into the air is to find an unfinished project to buy. There seem to be a lot of them floating around. Dave |

| Comments: I just purchased my first Evans VP-1. It has been sitting in a hangar since the early 80's. I paid $825 for it. It is in great shape. Needs recovering due to age, but solid as a rock otherwise. It currently has the original bubble windshield, but I want to design a functional full cannopy for it. That is my current project before recovering and going through the motor. If anyone has design ideas for a cannopy please email me and let me know. Thanks, Rob Killerb1971@hotmail.com |

| Comments: I bought a VP-2 over 10 yrs ago. Had a Revmaster 2100d with posa and straight stacks. Designed an exhaust system cut the prop to 54",installed Bosch efi{after market computer},built a turtle deck & have cross braced undercarriage.Cruises 60kts on 16l/hr,climbs 500fpm from 2400'. Done 500 hrs. could be a little quicker I wish, but very safe. Heavy ailerons and slow roll rate gets the heart pumping. Heavy at 292kgs empty- definately a singleseat plane. Thanks for the good read! If I could I would have a vw Sonnex.I think that a carefully prepped VW is a good economical p/p.Run mine at 3500max and cruise 3050 to 3200. Regards and good luck to all, Don. |

| Comments: Hi, Congratulations for your beautiful Volksplane. I built a VP-1 when I was living in Guadalajara, Mexico. It was about 70% finished when I had to move to Mazatlan, Mexico and I could not take it with me because I did not have space to go on with the building process, but some of my friends helped me finish it and they flew it for a couple of times, but they had some problems with the VW engine. It is still in Guadalajara, but now I moved to Tijuana and it is still more difficult to bring it here. Anyway, I had a great time building the plane, and it has been one of my greatest experiences in my life. BEST REGARDS,,,, JOSE |

| Comments: Hello! My name is José Pinheiro and I live in Piracicaba, a small city in São Paulo state, Brazil. I`m engineer and also have a private pilot license. I worked more than a decade at Embraer, where I integrated the design team for airplanes like the EMB-110 "Bandeirante", EMB-120 "Brasília" and EMB-312 "Tucano". I just purchased the plans for the Evans VP-1, but I`m evaluating the VP-2 drawings too.I hope to decide soon what project to engage in order to start building by the beginning of the next year. Any way, I intend to design my own turtleback (aft fairing)and will fit the plane with a 1835 cc VW engine, a coversion from the original VW 1600 cc available brand new from the factory in Brazil. Another change to the original project will be the landing gear, which shall be made from a piece of spring steel sheet with no brace wires. Also, I´ll use freijó instead of spruce for all those locations as per plans, just because spruce isn`t available in Brazil. Freijó is a well proven structural wood, suitable for aeronautical applications. In fact, we have many planes designed around this wood, and its strenght and weight figures are comparable to those for spruce, what means no resizing work should be required. It was a great fun visiting this site, and I hope to exchange ideas with all those people interested in homebuilt airplanes. Salutations - José Pinheiro |

| Comments: I'm glad I came across your site. You've given hope that it's still possible to own and operate an aircraft simply, enjoyably and perhaps even affordably. And I have to admit that the prospect of building and flying one's own airplane could do wonders for the psyche. For now I'm still looking for that 1st project. The VP is certainly a strong contender. I wish you the best of success. |

| Comments: Started building the VP-1 3 years ago while living in Kentucky. Had free use of a tobacco barn while there to build in. Tons of room, power, water. Now living in Hawaii and looking for a place to build. Land space is an issue here (it is an island) so I doubt I will find another free barn to use. Presently have trunks full of aileron, wing, stabilator and rudder ribs that are all completed. Sigh... |

| Comments: Great site, my dad is a longtime aviator private pilot but I never learned. With new sport pilot licensure pending, I am getting interested again. 4 children so safety is a factor, luckily I'm already insured. Many seem to be looking for VP2 plans, there are several available at: http://www.barnstormers.com/ABC/ABC9900/vol9900.html no connection or endorsement implied. Also, another site has an FAA registration search engine: http://www1.drive.net/evird.acgi$pass*41469696!_h-www.landings.com/_landings/pages/search/search_nnr.html You can learn the search interface, then use VP1 or VP2 as the search term. Gives you address of registered owner, you can contact them yourself if they're nearby. Again, no connection or endorsement. |

I’m very interested in building a VP-1 and would like to contact Evans Aircraft as soon as possible to buy the plans but there isn’t any phone number or e-mail in their web page, but only a P.O. Box. As I’m writing from Argentina, snail mail would take to much time to arrive the U.S. Please, if you have any information of them, send it to me by e-mail. Thanks a lot. | Comments: Hi , Great page! I am stuck with the folowing problem, A volksplane, a Teenie 2 or a Hummel ??? I do not have a PPL yet but grew up in an aviation environment (my dad was a meteor/jet provest instructor in the RAF and a Shakleton/P166 Albatross pilot/instructor/examinator in the SAAF. I have a great passion for aviation and have finally decided to build my own plane, and, ... I will to get a PPL and some taildragger time too, ... funds are not at all in excess so I will be building it very slowly. I am based in Holland and would love to hear from more European builders / Flyers about their Volksplane. PS: If you have server troubels let me know, I have my own server on a very reliable connection and I would be glad to put up a mirror site for you. |
