Will be joining the club as soon as my shift changes around where I can make a meeting. I also have an 85 mustang gt convertible. Used to be in the mustang club but work has kept me away. It will be nice to talk with other owners. I have owned four bugs and a Karman Ghia over the years. Looking forward to joining.

I did not know there was a Volkswagen club in Mississippi especially one that had Type IIIs. My 1969 Fastback is one of the very few of these cars left that has a full automatic transmission. I am currently finishing some engine work & body work on it. Where can I find the emblems & door trim for it?

Just happened to see your site. We are members of the Cajun VW club in Lafayette, La. Anyone here know of anyone who wants to buy a 71 Convertible in great condition. Could be a daily driver, but mostly just sits in the garage until recently at the Cruisin' the Coast show. The car was on display at the Wal Mart tent. Had a buyer, but after 3 months of waiting, he finally backed out. One guy interested was a guy named Joe Jenkins, but lost his number since the Cruise. Anyone know him?
Thanks for any help....

Hi,
Saw your club on thesamba.com. I lived in Biloxi(teen years) from 64 till 1968(dad was at Keesler). Living in Union SC now. Glad to see classic VW's thriving on the Gulf Coast, makes me wish I was there again! Would love to make one of your shows and look around Biloxi/Gulfport again, haven't been there in over 20 years!
Best Regards,
Robert Grady

My girlfriend, Lisa, and I have finally purchased our first beetle which actually turned out to be a super beetle! It was a great purchase for a great price, only $2400.00. Yes it has some surface rust and the worst spots are across the front of the hood, the rear apron, and the running boards, all of them can be fixed or replaced easily. We do our own restorations so it will be a fun project for us to work on. The motor, which is a 1600, runs like a champ. We would love to join the VW club because we have never owned a beetle before and have questions about different things and would just love to get in on all the projects your club has to offer including the charity stuff if we are not working that day. Thanks for allowing me this time. Feel free to get ahold of us anytime!! We welcome everybody!! Later ya'll!! Scott Anderson

Hello, I'm somewhat new here. Mr. Larry comes into my store (O'Reilly's on Pass Rd.) quite often and we talk VW's off and on. He's tried to see me join the Gulf Coast VW chapter for over a year now, and I believe the busy-ness of life has gotten the best of me. I have now two Beetles (one, a super, I bought almost eight years ago- now more of a project car then a previous daily driver and a reg. bug that's in well enough shape only to save it's chassis). I should be attending my first meeting on 8-11. Though I won't be pulling up in my '72, I'll definately be in admiration of everyone else's jewels.

Hi... I recently had to replace my main wiring harness. My bus uses a 1970 bug engine, rebuilt to stck specs, a 12 volt system. i wasn't aware of the wiring color codes, and opted to wire it myself, by hand. i found an article by chris here, which was helpful, but i'd like some help, as i have several issues, like lack of brake lights, and don't know why. if one of you guys or gals would like to know more, i can send you a detailed description and a copy of my wiring diagram showing the newly replaced wires. thanks a heap! Well, after Katrina whiped out my house and everything the Navy sent me to San Diego. The good news, my 63 bug is in my dads barn up in Michigan unharmed! I am so glad to see this show is still going to happen. I miss my home of Gulfport but I will be moving back in two years after my enlistment is over. Plus, I still own my property there (eventhough my house is gone) so like the VW community on the Gulf Coast, I'll be able to dust myself off and rebuild again. See you guys soon. Thanks.

I really can say that I know what you have been going through these past few months since the storm. 1 year after Ivan and we are still recovering but things are almost back to normal in some areas. Katrina made Ivan look like a summer breeze.
Rare Air will be there in force . Best of luck with the recovery efforts and God Bless you guys and gals.

I need to get the motor running before I start fixing up the rest of the car. Can you recommend a local mechanic?

I have been restoring her for the last 2 1/2 years from the bottom up. I lack installing carpet in the back, upholstering the seats and a new paint job. I would like to put some of the old style Cragger S/S Deep Dish Mags all round, but I'm not sure how deep I can go? Could I put 8" deep on back with a 50 series tire and 7 1/2" deep dish of the front? If you have an answer I would appreciate anyone e-mailing it to me.

Thanks and I have printed out a copy of your membership application and will be sending it as soon as I get off this offshore rig.

Great site, thanks for sharing everything with the rest of the world. The Tech stuff is awesome and very informative, I have done all of the work on my car myself (except paint) and sure could've used the electrical information you have. I'm in California, but who knows maybe someday I;ll be in your neck of the woods.
thanks again

Hello there

We found your club on the net. We are members of the Historic VW Club of South Africa. Our special interest is Beetles and Busses before 1960. We will travelling in the USA from 13 May to 23 May through Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana & Tennessee. We were hoping to find 1 or 2 really good VW dealers/ restorer to chat to when there. Something along the line of Wolfsburg West (LA) or maybe someone renowned for their array of stripped parts from old cars. We would also love to see some cars and meet other enthusiasts.

Could you help us?

Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to congradulate everyone for a great VW day during your 10th Annual Show. What great weather and a good turn out , too. It was good seeing everyone and I really enjoyed DRIVING my VW to your show for the 1st time. Except for a cracked windsheild The Grape did extremely well coming and going to your super show. Thanks for letting me present Rare Air's Presidents Choice Trophy and I'll see some of you at the Trip to the Ship Cruise In, Boomin Show, and the Cenla Show next month.

Take care and keep those VW's Running Strong and Oil Drip Free! :)

Looking through the Hot VW Mag (Mar) I noticed your upcoming event on Mar 19. Since I'm going down to Destin, Florida to visit my snowbird dad and his gal from Mar 13-27. I thought I would probably come over for the day and enjoy the festivities. I reside in Aurora, Illinios and unfortunatly will be driving my larger more dependable Monte Carlo. I hope you won't kick me out for that. :)
I'm currently doing a frame off on my 57 and is at the paint shop/body shop right now. Some of the features is a not so radical chop (2"), 2" drop, front disc, Porsche cookie cutter wheels, shaved door handles, suicide doors, remote door openers, power remote windows, custom interior, pro street rancho 388 R&P and a dual weber 2110 motor. Hoping to have it finished by May. I'll be looking forward to coming down and checking out all the cool rides from the south. See ya soon. Joe

SUPERB WEB-SITE! BEST I HAVE SEEN!!!!
I wanted to commend your club for having such outstanding and helpful members as Chris Rominger and Ed Thompson. I emailed Ed about our new club and he contacted Chris. Immediately Chris emailed me offering his help. I had many questions and he promptly sent me the info that I needed. It is reassuring to know that there are fellow VWers out there willing to share their expertise with those of us who are just learning. Your club is most fortunate to have members such as Chris and Ed. Thanks again, Janie Williams, Vicksburg, MS
