years From 1970 until he passed. He gave me the Nick name "Crown Prince of the Blues" on a trip from Atl. to Chi. in 1974. I'm very glad to know that someone os keeping his name and legacy alive and available to the international public eyes and ears. Please know that I'm in support of anything that holds Muddy's name and music in high regard. | Comments: | I received the rare opportunity to meet the man himself, McKinley Morgansfield; aka Muddy Waters, in the summer of 1980. I was working as a roadie at the Jazz Comes Home Festival to raise money to renovate South Shore Country Club. Thanks again to Geraldine DeHass for putting the show together.Count Basie played for one of his last performances, but Muddy stole the show with his brand of electric blues that rocked the lake front and will live on forever. Meeting the man himself and shaking his hand is truely a high point in my life. And eventhough I'm way past 21, if she's 19 years old...she's got waves just like a baby child. God Bless you Muddy.......YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!! |

| Comments: | I just turned 30yrs. old July 2008, in since ever have been an ever growing fan of the blues (pardon me for taking so damn long!!!) I can truly say that Muddy Waters, out of several musicians is my favorite. My absolute favorite of his is "I feel like going home" and I also like version of "Mannish Boy" ft. Bo Diddley.....phenominal. I much enjoy his hidden sense of humor in that rendition. I admire the genius of the makers of this website. I think what you've done with the rich history and culture of Blues music and Mr. Muddy Waters. May God bless you in your future endeavors for many years to come.

I do a version fo Folsom Prison Blues by prefacing it that Johnny Cash walks into a blues bar in heaven where Muddy is playing and Muddy says, "Man you sho' wrote some blues. Now let me sing this one for you like da blues ought to be sung in a song of this magnitude." He is one of a kind and still speaks to all that listen. |

Went there for Prom nite May/June 1971 and am trying to gather any info. Good old times, Blues live in Chicago. Here it is 37 years later and the kids still can't figure out how a white man can listen to black music and the current hip hop scene. I always get asked "what u know about that music?" I just respond "Oh you'd be surprised what u DON'T know about it". I thank all the artists playing in Chicago when I was growimg up. |

I tried to buy everything I could find by him. My 1996 hauls "Muddy". I found a video/bio on Muddy at Fye . It was aweson! If I had a wish it would to have talked learned how to play guitar like him . When he sang "She's 19 yo and "COPPER COLORED BROWN". It sounded like he was speaking to me. I hate when I can't find his music. Bonnie Raitt understood his power.I hope his day is a success. The world was a better place because of him. I was 20 years old, had seen many concerts, but had never been to a 'blues' show. I must say, it was truly an experience. I was absolutely enthralled with the performances. No musicians had ever moved me like that before. Been a blues fanatic ever since. Thanks Muddy (and James)for bringing the blues to me. And thanks to 'Petey' for asking me to tag along for the show. |

| Comments: | I remember seeing Muddy at Ontario Place in Toronto in 1982 (his tour dates don't include 1982, so it might've been 1981) and getting there 5 hours early so I could get a front row seat. Downchild opened, and it was truly one of the most memorable concerts I have ever been to. I took some pictures of Muddy which I still have in a box somewhere (I hope) so if anybody in the Morganfield family would like me to e-mail you a copy, please fell free to ask.
Interestingly enough, I know exactly where I was, and what I was doing when I heard on the radio that Muddy had passed away. The man (along with Little Walter) sure had an impact on my life. |

What can I say that ain't been said, probably nuttin'. But what I can say is this man was & is the real deal, solid thru and thru. Unfortunately, I never got to see Muddy, but what I derive from enjoying his music can't be quantified or qualified. His recordings are the only ones I can think of where the performer's voice & performance truly "bends the the will of the band" to make it his own! Truly, truly powerful. I love playin' harp to Muddy's songs and have learned to play "Got My Mojo Working" and others to the delight of my friends. No offense intended, but I still think most other bluesmen weren't fit to carry Muddy's suitcase! Thank you Muddy for showing me what true raw unadulterated talent is all about and for being an inspiration for me for years to come. Freddy E. |

| Comments: | I met Muddy at a New Year's Eve show at Teddy's in Milwaukee, December 31, 1974. I was lucky enough to speak with him alone for the whole time he was on break after the third set. What impressed me most was his very kind, friendly, unpretentious manner. Muddy's Band was awesome. They didn't have much for equipment, but they sounded like a "million-bucks." The band I was in had all new top of the line equipment, and sounded like...well pale in comparison.
Muddy was an inspiration to me, and many of my friends. I have all the Blue Sky recordings, and I love them. Muddy inspired me to try my best, especially in music. I have had a lot of success as a local performer, sideman and sometimes band leader. It's like I am thinking "What Would Muddy Do?" sometimes when faced with a delima or question. My reputation as an accomplished "Blues Drummer" is mainly due to my hours of playing an listening to Muddy Waters recordings. I always point out where I get the inspiration from when ever I am paid a compliment. Nothing I do is original, I learned it all from the master. Muddy's influence upon American and British Pop music can't be measured- it's huge. As a kid I always enjoyed this genre of music the best. As an adult musician, my happiest times were spent playing the blues. I have been in a lot of bands. Now I cant play drums out any more due to poor health, so I am taking up guitar. Of course my new guitar is a Telecaster, just like my "Blues Hero." I will always remember how very sweet Muddy was to spend time with me, during his break, that special night long ago. Truly it was one of the highlights of my life and a big inspiration. God Bless All who pass this way...Peace. |

I was so excited when the "Clapton" Autobiography was released. I am going to be honest, I had never heard of Muddy Waters until I read that book but I figured that if Eric Clapton was inspired by him then he had to be nothing short of amazing right? So I went and bought my first Muddy Waters album, "Hard Again", and I was totally right. I fell in love. I have since then learned how to play a whole Muddy Waters repitoire myself and I can honestly say I love it! |

I was looking for a show I attended. I was pretty sure the date was 1-17-1978 but I don't see it on the tour dates page. I sure would love to know if I was losing it or Muddy actually played there for that date :-) anybody? Great site!! |

If you have not heard The Muddy Waters Woodstock Album check it out...besides Muddy's great work, Bob Margolin, Paul Butterfield (doing the best harp by him I have ever heard), Levon Helm and Garth Hudson, are great. Mr. Morganfield lives through music such as this. I plan to visit the home territory of Muddy and many other blues greats in March. What I find will go into www.highway61bluesman.bluespot.com Also, replacing my The Last Waltz DVD recently, I again thought Muddy's performance was one of the best of the concert....fortunately there was one camera left when all the others burned up from overwork...until the end of Muddy's performance, when a second camera was brought back to life. There is no Time in Art and Love, is a line of mine, and I consider Muddy's work art, unlike much of the music of all types that one hears..... Paul H |

| Comments: | we all know that muddy is the greatests person in blues and we owe him a super great tressure of blues, but aftet the death of godfather of the blues we have responsibility to care to love and to show millions of people how great is the blues. so i think that we (the blueslovers) must join our forces to spread the blues all over the world, so let's connect with each other and let's make something special for others and for us. i live in georgia (the republic of georgia) and here only few people are listening to the blues and i want to change it and i be;ieve that i other countries their's a same situation so contact me in my mail and together we will change things in a good way in a bluesy way - thanks |

If Muddy had been a baseball player, he would have been better than Babe Ruth. If Muddy had been a golfer, he would have been better than Tiger Woods. If Muddy had been a boxer, he would have been better than Ali. If Muddy had been a basketball player, he would have been better than Michael Jordan. Muddy Waters is the blues and the greatest of all time. |

| Comments: | Ahhh Muddy....you were the man. I must have seen your gigs at least 25 times, whenever you were anywhere near Chicago. No one else could ever rip our hearts out in one minute, then make us dance with joy the next minute. When I first started going to you gigs, I didn't know I was witnessing what would become a legend. But later, I had no doubt that I was. I cried they day you left us, and my friends and I all had a shot of good whiskey to toast your music. Muddy....you were the best there ever was. |

| Comments: | In the summer of 1981 my friends and I were preparing to start our junior year of high school in Chicago. We went down to "Chicagofest" at grant park to see the sights and hear the sounds. At the main stage was this old blues singer. As we stood down stage right the crowd noise was maddening. He couldn't get out the songs because the crowd just would not calm down. Finally he launched into "Hoochi Coochie Man" and my life was changed FOREVER!!!! I could never listen to any music the same again. I didn't understand the gravity of the man at that time, but I soon realized what I had witnessed and just WHO I had witnessed. I haven't lived home in Chicago for twenty-two years, but I am still filled with the sounds and sights of my "sweet home" Chicago. Muddy Waters ushered me into adulthood and a serious appreciation for the music of my hometown. I want to thank him and his music for his special contribution to my life. PEACE!!! |

| Comments: | I'm 65 years old, and my hometown is Greenville Mississippi, a few miles north of his birthplace, Rolling Fork.
One day in Greenville, in 1949, I was walking down a gravel road about a block from our house. There was a row of "shotgun" houses. The very first house I noticed a man sitting on the small front porch. I don't think it was his house though. Behind him and leaning on the wall was a worn flat top guitar. I stopped and asked him what he was eating. He told me it was boiled deer meat and soda crackers, and asked me if I wanted some. I said "yes. just a little piece". I sat down with him and we talked a bit. "Can you play that guitar"?, I asked him. He answered "A little bit". I asked him to play it, and he told me a string was broke and it just didn't sound right". He asked me my name, and I asked him what his name was, to which he replied, "My name is Muddy Waters". |

Hope to see more info soon... |
