Hello Muirsin, By chance I came across your photos. I looked up Frenchpark and from there I got you!!! You are absolutely wonderful and the amount of work which you did is beyond comprehension. You have given me much pleasure but, of course, I have only viewed a very small number. I'll be back. From what I have viewed so far, I would have to give first prize to the two wild goats. They are positively eerie. I was reared near Loch Gara, South Sligo and I never saw goat horns like those in your photo. It isn't fair to single out any one photograph. In their own way, each photo is lovely. The swans, also down at Kylemore Abbey where you were afraid. Great mystery attached and I would be afraid too. Good bye and again my sincere thanks. Frank Conry. |

Hallo Muirsín Durcan, just to say you have some great pictures of in and around Castlebar, and other towns and the County Mayo beauty spots. And by showing them to my wife & family here in Transylvania, Romania they can understand more of where I lived in Ireland, hopefuly next year we will get to visit in person. The pictures of the centre of Castlebar showing the military barracks were of particular intrest as I served there for many years, also the area of Riverdale Court, Knockthomas, and looking towards old "Pigeon Park" and the new Springfield Court area. Keep up the good work, Kevin A. Ryan. Transylvania, Romania. |

You have shown the true beauty of our home County and as when Traveling and meet People and thy say thy have been to Dublin or Cork and counot beliver the Greating form the People and the hospitaly. It is then yes the City are good But to see real Beuty come to the country, I happen to be lucky I have traveled all thirty two countys and there is a different beauty in each of them, When asked is it safe my answer is yes, As thy are all Irish people and will make your vistit the best, But I wil never forget waking an through my window in our house seeing the reak and waiting to see if the mist would clear, and Just under was one of my cusen home, wher we saved Hay by cutting drying and turning befor putting in to stooks to make sure it dryed and then putting them into small Haycocks and spinning the straddles and then making the hayrick, as we wher young hilderen this was not work it was a way of life so our grandparent would be warm throught the winter. To ask for payment would be unbeliveble, as this was not the Irish way and as I have now got into middle age 60's and have to slow down in a few years, I have yet to find any country where the People from Ireland are not welcomed with open arms. Peole from other counry are welcomed. But the arms stay closed until the host have worked them out. It would be great to be home againg but I have this daft Doctor that says Im Not fit to travel. well one day he will call on me here and I will be at Home and enjoying the thng that are bad for you with Joy. We only have one life and if you hve not seem Ireland then you have died to soon |

| Comments: | Are you any relation to the Solicitor Mr Patrick J Durcan of James Street Westport, Or is there such a Person well he may also Use the Name of a Priest Claiming to be the only living relation to the Walshed of Newport That until 1968 Managed Careys, And as I have been the owner since Patrick asked we to Take the bussines in Ireland and Abroad over and Gave the Instruction to the Company slicitor in Dublin this did happen as the solicitors asked for a Contact address for me, And Patrick said I Have several as Joseph also happens to be My Great Nephew he is Catherine Eldest grandson. And No I never had help from Patrick and would not take Money, for setting up my Bussines and some say I was a success but afteral it only Money and is Just something to exchange for Pleasure in the long run so you live a good life, I have never Known my worth for years My accountant may. But I no Longer work for profit, I retired when I was fifty five and Now enjoy life by working as a Voultnteer with young People, And as I have had many years of working in the Law I now put that to good use and make sure young people are looked after under the Law and over 90% of them relise that the sord of Justice has two Cutting Blades to make sure all my client are looked after and there rights are respected.
I is such a pitty that a peson that is thought of so well could be disbared and face charges, and this is not my wish But if you are related to Patrick J Durcan or may Kow of him Give him good advice as he has seemed to have done for many in the West and Tell him I would like to talk with him and Make sure that Property sold to People is within the Law and cant be grabbed Back at a laer date by the same con Man or one of his Partners. The Importain thing is that we talk for the good of the People. And Put the Past behind as the Future of the people of the West is the Imortant thing not how we see each other as we are Mayo People in the end arnt we. |

| Comments: | hi I think the cheek of political supporters to stand outside churches begging for the big boys shows the level of shame or rather the total lack of shame these people have. Alley cats look down on this level of scum and the funny part of it is that these guys swagger around the gate as if it is some sort of honour to be allowed to hold the begging bowl for the big fella in Dublin when some of them are living on the breadline themselves and could very well be more excused for pocketing the takings than for handing it up or collecting it in the first place.
Waken up and smell the air boys we dont care whether you can afford to fight elections or not the only ones who do care are the printing companies and the bars where the free drinks for the boys are put up after the nights canvassing from the proceeds of the big church gate collections. |

| Comments: | I was looking at your wonderful photos and having been born in New York, I thought that I would answer the question under the photo in Wall Street. The round things are water tanks. Although New York City has one of the best water systems in the world, they are used to supply water to occupants in case of power failures and the pumps can't supply water to the upper floors. I believe that they are also used to run the fire sprinkler systems. Almost all the tanks are wood and many of them are hidden. |

| Comments: | This is indeed a very sad day - I attended the convent from 1980 to 1985 (Sr Brendan was Principal) and very much enjoyed my time there. | Comments: | Great pictures!!
I had the good fortune of visiting Ireland about 10 years ago and your pictures brought back memories of the visit. But, one thing I cannot seem to reconcile is your picture of the entrance to Ashford Castle. My picture shows a short bridge(?) after an outer portal. One then went thru another portal which was on the grounds proper. My picture shows a slightly different architecture of the portal(s). Has the Paddys finally got control of my brain, or is there some other explanation? I toured the Isle with my brother, in a rented auto. We stayed at the Woodlands, a B&B a short distance from the castle. We walked from the B&B down to the woods next to the golf course. We supped at the restaurant owned by Joe Melotte (sp?) the stand-in for John Wayne when "The Quiet Man" was filmed. I'd bore you more but luckily the wife is demanding my presence. If the mood strikes you and you have the time, I'd like your comments. Best wishes. Tom |

| Comments: | Hi Muirsin,
Many thanks for taking the time to pass through my home village! I hope you found it a very enjoyable experience.... it has not really changed that much since I left 12 years ago though my old school seems more cheerful than I remember. I visit a couple of times a year and always spend a bit of time on the bridge letting my cares drift away on the river as it flows peacefully along. I will be back there again next week - must visit the Land League Cottage. Oh, by the way, the owner of the store most certainly does have a thing about horses - his father used to be a blacksmith and the forge was next door to the shop. Keep up the good work.... All the best. |

| Comments: | A quick note to congratulate you on your site. The photos bring nothing but pleasure and always brighten my day. Each photo captures the uniqueness of the Mayo countryside as I remember it growing up just outside Belcarra (5 miles from Castlebar).
I wonder do you every pass that way? The village is very pretty with a strong sense of community pride... Maybe one day you might find yourself out that way, stop for a minute or two to take in this village nestling peacefully in the hillside. If you fancy some refreshment you can always pop into Flukie's Bar where a warm welcome awaits.... Keep up the good work. All the best. |

especially, interested in Western Ireland. My wife was born and raised in Roxboro, Ballinrobe, County Mayo, and your pictures of her town were very welcome. As were all the photographs taken. Missed visiting Mayo this year , although we shall be coming 'home,' as it were next year, God willing. in 2002. A sort of nostalgic visit this time as my wife's sister, Mary and brother, Ned have both died , as of 200l. Thank you again for showing us a part of Ballinrobe that my wife cherishes, to this very day. God bless you and yours. |
