My deepest and heartfelt sympathies to Diane and all of Charlie's family and friends. Not only was I a fan of Charlie's since the Blue Ox days but I was also a student and a friend. I learned so much about music and about life from Charlie. When ever I am working a new song out I think, what would Charlie do. He is a part of my musical DNA and I carry his knowledge, inspiration and spirit with every note that I play. Bless you Charlie. Your spirit will stay with us always.

To Diane and all of Charlie’s friends,
What very sad news; my condolences to you and his friends/family. I grew up in WNY and now live in CA. I have the greatest and most valuable memories of Charlie and the Blue Ox Band you could imagine. As a guitarist myself, they were a very large influence on me, not to mention a lot of fun (Belle Starr, anyone?). 35 years later, I still enjoy, and learn from old Blue Ox Cds, and Charlie’s latest CD from October. He will be missed not only in Buffalo, but across the country.

Charlie touched the lives of many people, including his students. He was always encouraging and patient. He went way beyond what was necessary to share love of music. His adult Unplugged Club was asked to play some songs at the South Buffalo Pantry Benefit, which is dedicated to his memory. Charlie - you are missed by all...We have been practicing hard and hope to make you proud! You are always in our hearts.

Not sure if you remember me. Met you and Charlie a few times with Norris. Last time being at the Blue Ox reunion two years ago. We think and talk about the two of you often. Even tho there was distance, Norris remembers the Blue Ox days often and especially Charlie. Throughout the years I have heard only great things about Charlie. He held a special place in Norris' heart and as such I have come to know about Charlie thru my relationship with Norris. You feel a great loss and sadness, I know. We will keep you and the family in our prayers. You will meet up again; so focus on the good because it is what Charlie would want. Much love.....Marie

We think and remember the both of you often and I know that Charlie was a special person to Norris and many others. I pray that the sadness and loss you feel will instead turn into knowing that you were blessed to have had such a partner in your life and that time and your faith will get you through these times. Norris and I will keep you and your family in our prayers. Charlie's passing is a great loss to Norris as well as to many others. I received a copy of this saying shortly after Homer passed away and still find comfort in it.

In one sense there is no death.
The life of a soul on earth lasts beyond his departure.
You will always feel that life touching yours,
that voice speaking to you,
that spirit looking out
of other eyes,
talking to you in the familiar things he touched, worked with, loved as familiar friends.
He lives on in your life
and in the lives of all others that knew him.

When I heard of Charlie's passing, I immediately saw him walking side by side with Jordy, (no leash, no collar), headed out into a big field. The warm breeze in his shoulder length hair, muttons chops, flared jeans, sneakers and long sleeve t shirt , with not a care in the world. Oh, did I mention he had the biggest smile on his face? Charlie was the kindest, gentlest, humblest soul, I had the honor of knowing since high school. In all these years, he never ceased to amaze me with his love for music. He always had your back. Play on , Charlie, my dearest friend, and walk on with Jordy! We will be waiting to hear from you:)....love you always and forever, Carol

I did not know him well, but I had talked about recording his "Are You Still" -- which I LOVE, and I went to his house some time in 2010 where he taught me the chords. I got distracted and never did the recording. He was looking forward to hearing a new version of that beautiful song. I heard it at the Nashville Star competition we were both a part of. Great web site! I just spoke w/ Sharon Donahue, who sent me here. As I've been following my husband around the country & supporting his higher education habit, I have found myself teaching guitar for the past 6 yrs -- 1 yr in Kansas City, MO & 5 in Louisville, KY. As such, I find your Gang of 15 Workout very intriguing. I will have to check it out.
Sharon also filled me in on a bit of your health history. I'm sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. I pray that the Lord will be merciful. May He bless you & keep you & make His face shine upon you & give you peace.
Shalom,
Janet
PS I think I was at that Joni Mitchell concert in '73. I also heard her solo in Stratford, Ont. around the time of "Ladies of the Canyon" -- another magical night!

EDDIE, PASSED THE THINGS TAUGHT AND INSTILLED IN HIM FROM FATHER DOWN TO HIS LITTLE BROTHER, TERRY. YOU MAY KNOW HIM IN THE MUSIC WORLD. TERRY BUCHWALD, THE LOCAL PERFORMER OF MAINLY ELVIS MUSIC. MY SONS LOOKED UP TO FATHER LEO, AS ALL OF US DID. HE IS SO LOVED BY ALL FOR HIS GENUINE CARING AND NURTURING OF THE BOYS. WE HAVE MANY GREAT MEMORIES AND SOME PICTURES WITH HIS EXCELLENT PRODUCTIONS AND WONDERFUL TRIPS. Hi Cous,
Take it from someone who has just passed the big six-o its no big deal. I thought things would start to fall off but I check every morning and I am still intact (As I ever was!) I will pick out "Happy Birthday" to you tonight on my 60th birthday present (The new guitar). Lots of love from England. Dan & Heather x x

not sure what got me thinking about it..kindda surprising i have any memories of the belle star days given the crazy consumption that i did. Googled belle star and was surprised to see so many survivors out there from those days. saw you old pic and recognized you from the band back then.. I sure did enjoy that place, could never be reproduced and if it were it would suck for me because i would have to be in bed before anything got started. I'm sure you would not remember me specifically, just wanted to make a contact with someone from those days.

Charlie, Wow, here is a blast from the past. Don't know if you remember me or not...I tended bar at the Poor House West and The Belle Starr. We, (Margaret Richlich, Yvonne Hahn and I) moved into your house on Pfarner Road ("The Last House on the Left") way back in, what, '74 or '75? The pix of the Blue Ox Band...were those taken in the hayloft behind the house? Looks like it to me. Glad you are still playing...I live in Humboldt County, CA now..don't get back east much at all..miss the great music which you, gladly, still seem to be part of. Hi Charlie,

My son Max and I never met you...we just heard plenty of good things about you. I worked with Diane at Prism for a while some years ago now. I got an email a while back from that gorgeous wife of yours that made me cry. You could just feel the love coming off the page as you read it and I have been looking for some words for you ever since.

Diane was such a source of strength for me once as I am sure she is for you everyday and you for her. I hope this message finds you continuing to fight like hell and find some meaning in all the struggles you have had to endure. I will continue to think of you and Diane often and send positive thoughts of love, healing and a promise of a long life growing old together.

Dear Diane and Charlie,
What a wonderful job you did creating the Magee Reunion web site. I could just cry and did reviewing all the memories of such a great trip. Memories like those cannot be recreated but we can always try at the next reunion.

There were six Magee siblings, Margaret, Mary, Jimmie, Anne, Tess and Kate who produced these 19 first cousins. Now with the death of our Mother ( Mary ) on July 26, 2007 it leaved only Aunt Anne (age 92) in Canada as the surviving Magee sibling. The original Magee clan produced a very creative and diverse group of offspring. Many are talented musicians and vocalists and other have hidded and some not so hidden talents. I can't imagine what the next generation of Magee clansmen will acconplish.
Again thanks to Diane and Charlie for keeping the memories alive.
Love Anna ( Joanne )

Hi Charlie
Just heard about the snow. Bet you wish you were back in Annacloy. Sadly everything here has gone back to normal (or as normal as possible Magee style). I'm afraid Asda in Downpatrick has suffered trading loses. They have blamed the downturn in trade on slumped sales of wine after the Magee re-union!!!!

I hope you and Diane had as much fun at the family reunion in Ireland as I did. It was amazing that 15 of our 19 first cousins were able to attend. The company, music and food was outstanding, three cheers for the host family's in Ireland for over feeding us and helping us consume all the red wine in Downpatrick. All the family get togethers were very special. The multi-talented Magee decendents were fantastic. From Dan and Louise's singing and your talents on the guitar and vocals, each gathering turned out to be a historic event. I loved each one.

I was finally able to connect with you web site and read the tribute you posted on Dennis. You did a wonderful job of describing Dennis and the good and kind person he was and the love he had for his wife,Sue and daughter Lauren. We will all miss him forever!
