I just wanted you to know how much of an inspiration your poems are to me.

I am a 48 year old African-American female who is currently enrolled at Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, GA. Today my public speaking instructor gave the class an assignment to find a poem that we could identify with and we will have a poetry reading contest in about two weeks.

I just wanted you to know that I have chosen to read one of your pieces. For you to be 25 and such an insight into life is very uplifting for me. I started to select Quilts by Nikki Giovanni but you will be so much of an inspiration to my other class scholars that I must read one of your poems.

My only problem will be which one to choose.

Some of my so-called friends don't think that I can succeed at the age of 48 but I know that I can. I know that after raising two daughters, four stepchildren, and four grandsons, that God has a special assignment for me.
