Comments:Dear Sirs,
On your page 'Anglo Irish Treaty' I saw a few photographs of the motorvessel "David F", built 1962 at Zwolle, The Netherlands.
I am doing research on this shipyard at Zwolle (1921-1971).
I am interested in a short history of this vessel.
In the period 1960-1962 at this yard 3 vessels were built for the Marine Transport Services Cobh (Ierland), mv "Ingot", "David F" and "Marianne F".

Comments:Nice to see the comments from Phillip Bollard in Sydney and from our locals Kevin Devlin and Ben Byrne.

The Dublin Branch is named after Leading Seaman Michael Quinn and we meet on the first Thursday of each month (not on Bank Holidays). We have a membership in Dublin of over 100 and 45 associate members (generally the wives of our members)At any meeting we would have at least 40/50 attending and the meeting lasts for one hour then we adjourn to the mens club in Cathal Brugha. 10 to 20 of our wives will already be shifting a few shorts and catching up on the local gossip in the mess before we arrive. As is evident from our web pages we have a good social scene going and it never is a problem to get anything up to 50 or more to travel away to any social function we care to organise. You will have seen last year we had 106 on a Mediterrean Cruise and another 58 going on one in September. We have 35 rooms booked in the Granville Hotel in November for the Waterford annual Mass which is always a very good social occassion. The Granville Hotel have offered us 3 nights Fri/Sat/Sun plus 2 dinners Fri/Sat for €140 per person sharing.

New members are always welcome to join our Association. Even if your are not a member we always welcome former and serving members of the Naval Service and Naval Reserve to come on any of our trips at home or abroad. Just call me anytime if you require any information on the comments above.

Regards

Terry Cummins

Comments:Cruise Update 22nd June 2009

Here is our final plan for the Cruise in September

Thursday 17th September.
We travel by Aer Lingus on Flight EI416 at 1100hrs arriving Bologna 1440 (Local Time).
On arrival in Bologna we will be met by Laguna Coaches and taken to the 4 star Plaza Hotel in Venice for a 2 night stay breakfast included. We should be at the Hotel by 1630hrs leaving plenty of time to take the train outside our Hotel for a short journey in St Marks Square in Venice and enjoy Venice in your own time. Friday is also a free Day and I am sure by evening you will be happy to return to the Hotel to enjoy an evening dinner which is included in our price for the trip.

Sat 19th Sept. The coach will again collect us and take us to the boarding area for the Royal Carribean Cruise Liner "Splendour of the Seas" which departs Venice at 1700hrs. While on the Cruise all meals are included and we have opted for the first sitting for evening dinner leaving plenty of time to enjoy the evening entertainment.

Nothing formal has been arranged for our group during the cruise. However it may be wise to consider travelling in Uniform as you never know what may arise on the Cruise. Perhaps we may dress for dinner on the Friday night, to set the mood for the trip.

22nd Sept. Chauffuer Greece will collect us from our Cruise Ship when we dock in Athens and take us on a day excursion of Piraues.

24th Sept. Chauffuer Greece will again be waiting when we dock in Katakalon
(Greece) and take us on an excursion. On both of these excursions we will have an English Speaking Guide (not the driver)

26th Sept. Laguna Coaches will collect us and take us to Bologna for our flight back to Dublin EI417 at 1520 arriving Dublin 1710hrs.

Our original budget Flight and Cruise only was €1500 however, with a bit of work and negotiations we now have Flight, Coach, Dinner, Cruise and Excursions down to €1385 per person sharing an Ocean view Cabin on Deck For a third person sharing the same cabin it is €975 total for that 3rd person. The Infant travelling with us has been reduced down to €375 Total (Flight included but booked seperately to the group)

Please note also included in your Flight cost is an allowance of 20kg baggage per person.

Travel Insurance for this trip is available at €20.13 all up to 89 years. Please let me know if there is anyone over 89 years travelling with us. For anyone under 17 years it will be €16.

Hope this is clear and I will be in touch when the final balance is due mid-July. I am waiting on final invoices from Royal Caribbean.

To summarise the total cost for the trip per person sharing is €1385. 3rd person sharing is €975. The Infant Charles Barden price has been reduced to €375 total Flight and Cruise.

The Balance will be due early July on receipt of final invoices from Royal Caribbean.
