Your interest in the 155th O.V.I.:: Emory Mikesell-Great Grandfather
Comments:While researching my geneology I came across a photo of my great grandfather, Emory Mikesell dressed in a Civil War uniform. When I Googled his name this site came up and I was able to understand what his part was in the war. He did tell my great grandmother that he was originally from Poland, Oh and grew up on a farm in Boardman, Ohio in the 1830's and 1840's. I did download some of the information to add to my geneology book of photos because I wanted to be able to explain to my grandchildren how important the Civil War was to the country we live in today. He died on February 4, 1904 and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio Thank You

Your interest in the 155th O.V.I.:: Relative--Henry B. White
Comments:My g-g-grandfather was Henry B. White. He was 30 when he enlisted in the 155th. He was born in Ireland, possibly County Down. He was a carpenter. According to his military history, he was 5'7", fair skinned, had blue eyes, and grey hair. He was married to Frances Crowley Johnson on 8 Nov 1856 in Mahoning County. They had two children (Sarah 1858 and William 1861)and Frances was 8 months pregnant with my great grandfather Willis when he enlisted. He probably didn'r meet his son until he ws muster out in August. In 1899 he went to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Danville, Il. After his discharge on 23 Jan 1903 from the home he went to Chicago where he died on 21 Sept 1903. His death certicate states he was buried in Akron, Ohio. I have not found his grave as yet. Thank you so much for your site. It has been fascinating to learn about the 155th. It has helped flesh out my great great grandfather for me.

Comments:Thanks for creating this site. Two of my GG grandfathers served in this unit, Isaac Carfrey and Jacob Crabill. I never understood the reason for the 100 days service until now. Both were married and had children and farms to work when they signed up. Both returned home but nothing in the way of stories were ever handed down that I was aware of. Jacob is buried in Harrison township cemetery in South Bloomfield and Isaac is buried at Commercial Point cemetery near Orient.

Your interest in the 155th O.V.I.:: research
Comments:Ohio NG units spent a good deal of time in MD during the War, and served well indeed. I'm looking into a camp ("Stansbury"), located at the Back River bridge of the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore RR, during the period 1861-65. It was located approx. 6 mi. E of Baltimore, and is referenced in Baltimore During The Civil War, by Toomey and Sheads (1986). I am trying to find the actual site of the camp--it's a "hometown" thing for me.
Thanks for the well-written--and enjoyable--read!!

Comments:Augustus Croft, Jr., was my great-grandfather who came from Germany in 1845 at the age of two. I have always been interested in his biography because information on him has been so scant. What a delight it was to find this site and learn the background of the Ohio 155th. I had some misinformation through family that Augustus was in the Ohio "Cavalry." I am glad to have the correct information. Additionally, I have his pension papers that help flesh out the information from the site.

A commendable job to the organizer of this site! Thank you so much for honoring the 155th. It means a lot to us to have our ancestors "brought to life" by focusing on them individually and the importance of their support for those on the frontlines.

A soldier's life is in ancredible thing to think about, and very fascinating to experience in any capacity.
