Well a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then, but a fantastic time was had in 262 a brilliant Sqn. I hope you are in fine health and enjoying life as am I Regards Mark Wilson now retired from the Army wish i was back in Cyprus

Comments:Hi Brian. Thank you for signing and likewise a pleasure meeting you too. Yes I was at GG in the early 70s as well as with E Tp 233. Will email you but just to add I know Dennis Weir very well. His fluent German is hardly affected by his Leeds accent. LOL. Nigel

Comments:Hi Nigel, it was a pleasure to have met you at the reunion. Our paths never crossed at Harrogate, you left the college just before i joined as an A/T. Having read your postings, i noticed you mentioned you spent a detachment at "H" Troop 13 Sigs. If this was Gross Gusborn are you aware that they hold reunions every 5 years over the "schutzenfest" period. The next one is in 2013. Although some ex-personnel attend every year. The main organisor is Dennis Weir, i don't know if you know him? If you want any more info please ask, i can also direct you to a German web site of H Troop and there is a H Troop - Dannenberg group on facebook. Cheers Brian.

Comments:Great web page Nigel. That compliment comes from a member of the more admirable and highly more successful Penny Squadron. Great memories of AAC Harrogate and the close rivalry between our two Squadrons. The making of men from boys was good to be a part of and none were better at it that your goodself!

Comments:I have read over all of the comments on Facebook, stared hard at all the pictures and grinned throughout the video of Alex Kubu's opening speech. I am hugely disappointed that I couldn't make this one, but chatting with Scotty hope to be able to assist in the organising of the next. I would say that you haven't changed a bit, but that would be a lie! All of us will look slightly different in the 34, or more years since we last met up. Thanks for your continued support of the Scott Sqn family and I really hope to meet up with you next time round.

Comments:Actually I do think you look quite suave and sophisticated in that photo and not at all badger-like. Unless of course it was your intention to look like a badger, in which case you didn't quite crack it. You're not afraid to put a recent photo up are you?! I like the idea of a web site, very nice. I haven't read all of your pages yet but I'll proof read anything on the skiing front. I know how bad your memory is! Mine's bad enough and if I'm unsure I'll check with the Philemon; his memory is frighteningly razor sharp. So sharp in fact that he remembers things that you'd really prefer were consigned to the dustbin of history. Fat chance, all those embarrasing things did actually happen (I'm talking personally here of course). Forgive me, I'm waffling. Little changes. Don Paolo x

Comments:Indian govt confers Nepali youth with high decorations for bravery The Indian government has conferred three high level national awards to a Nepali youth for saving a girl from being raped and retrieving valuables of hundreds of passengers from dacoits in a train four months ago. Bishnu Prasad Shrestha, 35, will be decorated with the Saurya Padak from the Indian ambassador on the upcoming Republic Day of India. Likewise, he will also be awarded with Highest Life Saving Medal and the Godfrey Philips Bravery Medal for his heroic deed. Earlier, the Indian Army (IA) awarded him a purse of IRs 50,000 and a silver Khukuri. Shrestha, who hails from Parbat and resides in Pokhara at present, was returning home on Maurya Express on September 2, 2010 after he retired from 7/8 Gurkha Regiment of the Indian Army from Ranchi when the train stopped suddenly in the middle of a jungle in West Bengal. About 40 professional dacoits entered the train with household weapons and started looting the passengers. The dacoits came to Shrestha’s boogie, too, and robbed him off his valuables. After robbing the passengers, the dacoits tried to rape a girl in front of her parents in the same boogie. In what appeared like a cinema thriller, Shrestha jumped into action when the girl pleaded for rescue. He took out his Khukuri and started attacking the dacoits, killing three on the spot and injuring several others. The dacoits ran away leaving behind the valuables they had stolen. Shrestha’s deed got a lot of media coverage and accolades. The Indian Army requested him to serve in the army for five more years even after retirement. Keeping in view Shrestha’s security and to honour him Shrestha has been provided two security guards from Indian border to the barracks coming and returning from home. nepalnews.com

Good fun back then, though as you say some serious moments. Mike was my best man when I got married, he and I worked together in Norway until he got injured. I am a self employed master builder. Still xc ski a bit when good conditions! Golf in Summer and squash in winter and a good family life keep me well. Keep well and enjoy your fag!( from a non smoke) Bob

Comments:Nigel, You were my squadron 2IC at Harrogate and were probably the main person who got me into skiing all those years ago when you organised the trip to Snowqueen in 78/79. Your love of skiing and the mountains rubbed off and I have been going at least once a year ever since! We did meet briefly in Cyprus in the mid 80's when you were up at Troodos with your wife and I one of the Joint Service Instructors up there. Richard

Comments:Hi I served with you at 262 Sig Sqn, then I was a Sgt RR Tech. If you recall we attended Truli School Xmas show and then the Restaurant in the village where your wife persuaded me to try snails, I politely ate them, she did the same, they were foul. A week or so later when we cross pathes again she asked me how I ate them as she thought they were foul aswell. I left the sqn on transfer to the RAF as an engineering officer, served with the RAF until 99 and have worked in the nuclear industry eve since. Did a short stint back in the TA a 2IC 5 Sqn 39 Sig Regt before calling it a day in 2002. Got my own consultance firm specialising in safety, risk, crisis & disaster management. All the best

Comments:Thanks Nigel, The Wire article brought back excellent memories of a first posting [fresh from RMAS] to 4 Sqn [Ptarmigan Interface - I think!?!], 22 Sigs at Lippstadt in '86 - though most involved rugby, Sqn summercamps, Shutzenfests, skiing, frauleines and the like! Ah, those wonderful carefree days - how many were actually spent as ROO I'd hate to think! Greatest of luck to Niel with the reformation. Regards, Jim P.

Name: Major Disaster
Comments:Dear Minor Disaster Agghh yes, must be Ponsonby Minor under this clever Nom de Plume Did we not also celebrate the Queen Empress' Durbah together at Simla in '01. It must have been you who was wearing the chamber pot that went so nicely with your unisex puttees. I trust that you have now returned to some semblance of sanity after the incident during the Waziristan campaign. I suspect that your disfigurement has now faded, although conjugal intimacy will always remain a difficulty. My bayonet has long since rusted in the scabbard but memories of those halcyon days remain etched forever in my mind. Ermintrude, must have been quite stricken to have waited so long for you to return only to learn of your sad and diseased fate. Nevertheless the blessings that she would have bestowed on you have not (I am sure) been wasted. I hope to hear more of your exploits as time goes by. Avuncular greetings. Major Disaster

Thanks to your inspirational leadership and advice, I am now a Cub Scout leader (Dib Dib, Sir)! Sir, I remain your obedient servant - behind you all the way!! Minor Disaster!
