| Name: | Judith Dolphin Hartberg |
| E-mail address: | phartberg@maine.rr.com |
| Comments: | My Dolphin family originated in County Sligo -- my great great great grandfather was William Dolphin, b. abt 1796 (Co. Sligo, Ireland) and d. in January 1859 in Temple Hill, Jones Co., Iowa; he was married to Ellen Sweeney, b. 1795 in Co. Sligo and d. 1862 in Iowa; they emigrated to the US around 1840 (most of the children of William & Ellen were adults at the time of emigration) and worked their way west, eventually settling near Cascade, Iowa. One of their sons, James, was my great great grandfather; he returned for awhile to Ireland , then returned and worked for awhile in New York State and then moved on to Iowa and settled near his parents -- he married Mary Gogan. Apparently there were other sons who returned to Ireland and one may have come here again -- possibly settling somewhere in the east.
I would love to hear from anyone who knows more of this family in Ireland -- their history here is well documented and I have it all entered at Ancestry under Tharp-Dolphin-Hartberg (my mother's, father's and husband's families). |

| Comments: | Great website! I'll be back! I've just started working on my family's history and found information in someone else's family trees saying I'm a descendant of Cecilia McGloin (McGlone)sister to James McGloin, an empresario that settled approximately 200 families, most of them irish, in South Texas. Parents were Edward and Leddy. Their grand nephew, Hugh McGloin, owned a grocery store on the Leitrim side of Bundruff Bridge. Across the bridge from the store is the house where James McGloin was born. Cecilia married Patrick Timon?? in Ireland and immigrated to Texas with their children but I can't find much information on when the emigrated. |

| Comments: | Thanks for a great site. Finding family in Sligo and Mayo is very challenging. We are visiting this summer(2011). Plan to visit the various archives in Dublin first as we understand the heritage centers in both counties (Sligo and Mayo) will not let us search the records personally which is a shame. Can anyone confirm this? My husband's ancestors include the surnames Scott, Rogers, Craig, Woods, Armstrong, Strong, Westgate, Wills, Hodge & Li(y)ster who immigrated to Quebec, Canada, in the early 1800's.

| Comments: | I am researching my great-grandfather John H. Rochford. John was born Feb.1846 and emigrated to the US in 1865 with his sister Mary born in 1850. There was also a sister Anne born in 1850. He possibly married a Hanora and she had a child John F born in Feb 1870 and died in July 1870. Hanora was 29 when she died in Feb 1870. John married Catherine Scott abt 1875. Catherine was the daughter of Mary Scott. Their children included Mary A (1876-1935) Henry , my grandfather, (1877-1935) John T (1181-1909) Walter (abt 1883-1900), Catherine (1879-1962) Agnes (1886-1919) and Anthony (1889-1971)Any informationwould be appreciated. |

| Comments: | Great site. Been searching for my great grandmother. Bridget Lucille McGarry(Cassidy) and her siblings, whom I am told all went to the U.S. except Bridget who turned down her turn and gave it to her brother Thomas. He went either to New York or California I am told. Bridget's sisters Martha and Katie went to Canada. Martha became a Davisdon and Katie married a Mr. Dick in Toronto Canada. But the rest of the family I don't know. This site gave me the census for the names of the other siblings...Wow Thanks for your hard work and helping the crazy genealogists of the world. I am trying to trace my great-great-grandparents, Arthur Whitesides (1806-1866) and Jane Allen (1805-1863). They were from the Parish of Templeboy... according to their gravestone in St James Cemetary, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It would seem that they emigrated to Canada prior to 1832. Any information would be helpful including pointers as to how I might go about tracing them. Thanks, Bruce |
