Your stories, truthfulness and insight into what it means to be an American are outstanding. I visit your site as often as I can and always look forward to listening about another character that has made a difference history. You have inspired me to repaint my daily focus and some day, be able to motivate others the way you do in your career.
Thank you! | |

| Comments: | Your story about Joe Ukrop hit the nail on the head. Although I don't live anywhere near a Ukrop's store, I have a friend who is a supplier to them and, for years,he has told me how much he admires Joe Ukrop. Your story on my Greensboro, N.C. a.m. radio station gave me even more texture about this remarkable individual. What struck me in particular was how he closed his store on Wednesday afternoons to give his time to helping others in his community (in addition to just simply treating each customer as a friend). I too have been blessed with my own small business (in my 26th years of serving customers). The story about Joe that you told has challenged me to find more ways to help others in my own community. Thanks for delivering this story. Keep up your find work; you are making a difference in this world.

I really do like your stories. Sometime I smile, laugh, get all choked up or even cry. It is so great to find the gift the God has given you to share with others. You have found yours and I finally found mine - I am an UltraSonographer so I get to scan all types of people with all types of possible illnesses. But the joy comes from sitting next to each patient for 20-40 minutes doing my job and chatting with each one as they so desire. This was a recent mid-life career change for me but the good Lord brought me to this point even though at times I was NOT patient.... and I sometimes still can't believe what a ministry He has presented me with as well. Keep up the good work and have fun always to the Glory of God. Just to clarify I am BFL's son, Keith.

| Comments: | Hi, Nelson:
You were truly inspiring at our All Staff Meeting in Billings, Montana and the high light of our conference. You have a good thing going and I hope I am fortunate to hear you again. Your sharing of your experiences with your disability were heart warming and you have no need to apologize for becoming emotional. To me that just showed your humanness and that you are not afraid showing your emotions will not shadow your manliness. I think it shows more the strong and secure character of a man who can show his feelings and become emotional at times. Your ability to share your disability and your wonderful sense of humor were a delight. I've known numerous people who have such "hidden" disabilities and they have gone on to become successful in their own way. Thank you for the hug, that is something I feel I just have to do and to be honest, a lot of my clients get a hug before they leave my office. A hug can say what words cannot. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful presentation. I wish you and Miss Jane the very best. Keep on building a wonderful life together. I've shared 44 years with my most special friend and I wouldn't trade him for anything. Take care and God bless. And thanks again for your uplifting presentation. Hugs, Jeannie Ostermiller

| Comments: | Hi Nelson and "the 'Ever-Lovely' Miss" Jane,
Listen to you on WJEJ in Hagerstown, MD, owned by Mr. John Staub, who was and still is a visionary “radio pioneer”. Saw you in Hagerstown last May at the True Grit Award Banquet. Really enjoyed your talk. Had driven my 83 year old father up from Columbia, MD so that he could see you, and he enjoyed it, too. In August, was camping at the Ferryboat Campground in Liverpool, PA along the Susquehanna. Realized that it was somewhere near Juniata County, but didn't realize how close until I started looking at the map and comparing your list of stories. So that Saturday afternoon, drove up Route 11/15 and stopped at the wonderful old Liverpool hardware store at 409 Front Street to get directions to Ada's bar. A few more miles up the road, I found it - and it was still as you describe it including the eight bar stools and a number of signs about foul language. However, you didn't mention the other two other important items every good bar has - a pool table and a juke box. Ada had been sick for a while, but was recently able to stop, again. There is a guestbook - a spiral notebook - where folks can leave messages for her. There was a lot of love written on those pages! Apparently, she reads it from time to time. The day I stopped in, it was drizzling rain. There was the barkeep and one customer. Two couples stopped by, as well. Then headed over to McAlisterville. What beautiful country! My dog, Brittney, and I had a great time! Parked at the bank and walked around the town. Met a lady who had stopped by to use the ATM. Found out that she sells items made from paw-paw. We had a very nice conversation. Learned that paw-paw is an old Indian staple. She reminded me of the children’s rhyme that includes the words, “way down yonder in the paw-paw patch.” I then thought of Paw-Paw tunnel in Maryland, along the C&O Canal, and Paw-Paw, WV which is on the other side of the Potomac. So somewhere in time, there is probably quite a story there… Anyway, she was making a living from this old Indian staple. She was a pretty cool lady. Hope all is well with you and Jane. I keep listening for your stories and enjoy them whenever they come on. God bless, Don Hoffman Greencastle, PA

Can't say enough about your stories. I live in Mt. Carmel, Pa. up in the coal region and my Grandfather had a gas station and cottage on the old Wm Penn Hwy back in the 1930's in Juniata County. I am named after my Grandfather, Charles Nelson Finton and you have made me very proud to be associated with Juniata County. Also, I am also a translator, and am fluent in Spanish (neutral accent). Have you thought of making this available in Spanish...or other languages for that matter? I would be happy to work on that project with you. Let me know. Thanks! LS

| Comments: | Hi,
I read your post on Craig's list. Concept is great...reader has a hypnotic voice that almost makes me want to drink hot chocolate, put my pjs on, and sit by the fire. If you are to appeal to radio shows nationwide, I think a face lift is in order for the site. (think history channel style branding) Simple is good, yes, but I think the logo and brand identity needs to be enlivened and broadened. Also, I'm not sure if there is intent embedded in the format, but I think it lacks a certain intuitive cohesion or organization. The pieces are very "american", and create a nostalgia that is very appealing. I think people should hear more of these stories. I would also broaden the scope of the show to a multi- media format. Radio should be your prime niche; however, we are a full blown multi-media universe now...Deals with PBS.com, and tons of talk radio, liberal and conservative. Good luck and keep up the good work!! -Eric

| Comments: | Listened to the Balto story three, maybe four times. I have a 14 year old Siberian Husky named Yukon and the story just brought back so many memories of watching him play and seemingly guard small children against things that might be dangerous to them, maybe my imagination, but I do not think so. Anyways this is all in response to the lead at Voice123.

What a surprise it was to me to meet someone from my old stomping grounds all the way out here in Wyoming. It was a pleasure hearing you speak and talking to you afterwards. You made an impact on the kids also. They remembered your one Rule, "If You Get Knocked Down Get Back Up". If you're ever out this way again look me up and I'll show you some of the prettiest sights you'll ever see. Thanks again and God Bless... Art, Afton Wyoming (Star Valley).

| Comments: | Mr. Lauver, I enjoy listening to your stories. There is one particular story that I am trying to find where you say that life is what you make it. That story has special significance since I heard it sometime after my Dad died in November of 2003. My Dad always said to me that life is what you make it. If you could help me identify that story it would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Dale Trout. | |

| Comments: | Nelson, I listened to your American Story-Teller 19 True Stories, and I must admit that some of your stories brought tears to my eyes. You do have the gift of putting pure emotion into your words, bringing those words to life, and making those words elicit memories from our own experiences. You are truly a gifted man. I am not sure about one aspect of track 2 when you talk about some big guy who made a difference. You are the one who made the difference. You are the one who refused to be categorized. You are the one who is living a dream. I wish you continued success and want all to know that Nelson Lauver is the real deal and am proud to know him. Thanks for the memories...flick | |

Your family sounds so wonderful and the love and respect you have for them is so touching. If you ever are speaking in southwestern Pennsylvania, I hope to be able to go and see you. You have made me cry and laugh with your wonderful, magical story telling. The warm feeling stays with me all day. You are truly gifted. Thank you for brightening my days!

When I told Mrs. Adenubi that I was trying to help a dyslexic high school graduate to learn how to read, she sent me one of your CD's with your autobiography on it. I enjoyed listening to you story, and I wonder if you have any advice for Okechukwu who is trying to learn how to read. I am a Dominican priest, and I have been a missionary in Nigeria for the past 38 years. I'm from Oak Park, Illinois originally, and I get to Chicago every July; so if you have any speaking engagements in Chicago in July, please let me know. Keep up the good work. God bless. Fr. | Comments: | Hi Nelson, Saw you last night at Kevin's in Lykens. Good job, we enjoyed the show. I have listened to your tapes while traveling and enjoyed the "local stories" the best. You may even have a story in Jim Hepler and how his broadcasting career started. He was real PA dutchified, but wanted to be an announcer. The armed services broadcast schools helped him, plus his hard work to become successful. P.S. I was the guy up front that asked the first quesion.

I am the Executive Director of a private school in Grand Rapids, Michigan for students with learning disabilities. I would like to find a way to have you come here to speak, not only to our students, but to members of our community. We need to raise awareness of the issues that surround our students and impede their ability to be successful in school. I am planning to contact some other agencies and see if we can jointly sponsor a speaking visit. Sincerely, Linda Chaffee Lake Michigan Academy Grand Rapids, MI
