Went on to surgery training at Scott and White in Temple, Tx,private practice in Grove, OK, then a career as a flight surgeon in aviation medicine in the Navy, now retired a CAPT, and back in Grove. Married Sharon Pettit of Norman in '65, 4 kids, 6 grandkids, and still know the words to the Alma Mater, and the Fidada, and lots of OU trivia. We had a lot of good, clean fun. |

| Comments: | My brother, Lloyd, was a Ruf Nek in 1966. He and I had the pleasure of getting our pictures taken together on the Schooner back in the late 80's (87 or 88?) before Oklahoma beat Zero State to win the Big 8 Championship and earn yet another trip to the Orange Bowl.
I had painted up a hard hat like a Sooner helmet and bolted a bowl of plastic oranges on top. I loaned it to one of the Ruf Neks to wear on the field after a TD, but the bowl got knocked off when they were leaving the field before the game started. Lucky he was wearing the hard hat! Great tradition guys. Keep up the great work! |

I'm an 8th grade English teacher in Tulsa, and proudly display my paddle as part of the OU shrine in my classroom! It's been a tough season so far (I've already had to buy lunch for one student following the TCU game), but since I'm a TRUE FAN I have every confidence that we'll turn it around. I joined the Ruf Neks in 1955, I was only at OU for the year 1954/1955. I had a great time but was not exactly a great student. I remember duck walking in the Engineering building for the 2nd floor down the stairs and back up as part of the hazing. Charley Horses all night but great fun? I remember the honey and cornflakes in all the hairy places and having to eat raw eggs and blindfolded a cold weiner,I peeked so it wasn't to bad. The reason I am writing, I still have my paddle. And all my relatives wear Oklahoma orange. Maybe a payback for the pink laundry soap we put in the OSU fountain. I rememeber,some of it,the great times I had at OU and remember only rich people drank to excess cause money was a little tight. I would like to pass on my paddle to someone in Oklahoma City that maybe could pass it on to future generations. |

He seems to think this is the first year the ruf/neks have used "popguns" (shotguns) in "close proximity" (back end of endzone 15 yards from players) to opposing players. Isn't it amazing there have been no incidences like this in 90 years, but suddenly it's a problem when Callahan's thugs get bent out of shape. Considering Callahan coached in Oakland, home of the foulest, meanest fans on the planet, and never said a peep about them, I'd say he has very little room to talk.

Hopefully, the people who will go see the Huskers play for the next couiple of years will not turn into Jerks like Callahan and Pederson.

| Comments: | I'm a 5th year member of the Pride Tubas and I was witness to the disgraceful, cheap-shot attack on a ruf/nek at Saturday's game against Nebraska. All I can say is that I hope he recovers well. Also, if your organization or the authorities investigating need any more eyewitness accounts of the attack please email me. His name was Doug Madden and we traveled to the Orange bowl in 1985 and yes that was the year that they thought we made them loose the game but of course it wasn't.
