These are women who have been unable to hear the news, to participate in decisions, and now we are bombing them for what they had no say over. They are mere chattle to the men in that country, same as we are to the men here, but at least we get lipservice, right. The whole thing makes me sick. Pornographers, that is terrorism. Pictures of women with objects up themselves, threats to abortionists and pro-choice activists, that is terrorism. Christian conservative male control over female lives and bodies, that is terrorism, but in the U.S., the "good ole boys" don't give a damn. |

Most of the people in Afghanistan probably weren't even aware that the US had been attacked. There was no need whatsoever to start bombing the country. I've heard people say that they didn't want to get blown up they should have moved, but these people are not rich and they do not have the resources to just pick up and move.

| Comments: | i was raised in a military family moving from house to house, and each one on different sides of the country. my mom was in the army for 4 years, and my assholic father faught in Vietnam, pulling himself up to be in special forces. after the war ended, he hadnt had enough. he decided to join the navy for 21 years, and ever since i was little he has tried his hardest to make me into a little him. he whole heartedly agrees with bush and all the assholes in the government. so of course i was automatically repelled from his ideals of a free land. and then i actually started researching this "war" and ah.... it really is bullshit. sorry, but it is. fucking hell, man! bush knew about this so-called act of terrorism on september 11th, and yet no one even cares about what the us has done to the middle east. just after this act of terrorism, we decided to start dropping bombs all over Afghanistan using the excuse that fucken bin laden might be there. however, there is no way that if bush just took him out that all this shit would stop. most likely it wouldnt. this childish thing that bush is doing now is just a publicity stunt! to go down in history as "the man who stood up for american values!" it is exactly the same thing that happened in pearl harbor! (whichever president it was) knew about it before it would happen and let it happen because he wanted a war to supposedly fix the economy.we have a selfish and unreal paradigm about what we really are. we are pigs who live off of controlling others. the other day i was sitting outside looking up at the sky and i happend to see a couple birds fighing on a telephone pole. one was standing on top, fighting the other because it wanted the top of the pole. then another came and started pecking so it could be on top. king of the pole.thats exactly what america is right now. the arrogant king of the pole and someday soon another bird is going to fly up and peck us away and we will fall and try to get back up again only we wont because we will have obliterated (yes, i know i cant spell)all of our resources and this so called greatest country will be dead. you know americans take up like 1/13 of all earths resourses.

| Comments: | I'm not a US citizen, so I don't really know the full ins and outs of what's going on over there (insofar as you can given the filtered media), but I am just as disgusted with the UK response. It seemed to me that no other option was even considered, and Osama Bin Laden, regardless of whatever evidence there was, was pronounced guilty just because the US Government don't like him and have been looking for an excuse for ages. I have long thought that ulterior motives such as oil were the real catalyst and have been astonished at the general lack of awareness of the real situation in Israel and Palestine. The constitutionally imposed, and internationally sanctioned, racism which prevails there absolutely astounds me. If you're not Jewish, you don't stand a chance, hence all the fuss about 'who is a Jew'.
In this country it has fuelled a simmering racism, that had already been stirred up by the asylum seekers issue, and some people's attitudes have been truly outrageous. Many Muslims have been attacked, despite repeated statements from the Government that the religion is one of peace, and that extremists are the ones to blame. This also stems from a general Western misunderstanding of the nature of Islam and its tendency to present it as a monolithic block when in fact it is very varied, and different countries will have cultural variations when it comes to 'being Muslim'. The level of ignorance is perhaps best illustrated by a conversation i had at my last place of work. One of my colleagues was talking about the investigation and commented that the cabin area of one of the planes had been found, replete with flying manual. They triumphantly exclaimed that "The instructions were in Islamic". I only just about restrained myself from enquiring if they had a recipe book in Christian, or a novel in Jewish. Sadly, I fear they wouldn't have understood. |

(Last I checked, America was the land of free speech. Guess the Bill of Rights doesn't apply to peaceful dissenters.) The same people who yell "kill, kill, kill" about the Taliban are the same folks who tell me womyn shouldn't be able to get abortions because doing so would be "murder." Go figure.
After 6 friggin' months, I finally find some intelligent beings. It seems like everyone is suddenly a warmonger, and that violence against the Other is suddenly equal to being an American. But womyn have ALWAYS been the Other. When is America going to declare war against rapists and batterers? This new "war" (never officially declared) isn't going to stop the oppression of womyn in the Middle East. (It may even further the oppression of womyn in America - - what anti-womyn legislation is the government trying to push through while we're all focused on the "war against terror?") This war is killing womyn along with al-Qaida fighters and pushing Afghani womyn refugees into prostitution in Pakistan and other neighboring countries. And I'm going to guess that when the "war" is over, the Allied forces will pull out without any attempts to repair the damage they've done. I encountered a man today who, when I mentioned to his wife that I was involved in raising money for an educational fund in Afghanistan, butted into the conversation with "I need to get out of here." He proceeded to tell me that he thought we (the US) should take care of our own business - - keep in mind, he hadn't said a word to me in the twenty minutes I'd been talking to his wife. And this same man, after he had cooled off, came back to talk about lending support to the troops. "Our own business" indeed. And why comemmorate the 6-month anniversary of Sept. 11? The media are having a field day at the emotional expense of thousands of people. Not even right. Why, as well, does it seem that the attacks on Sept. 11 were a call-to-arms for the religious right? Being a Pagan girl is tougher than ever. It's difficult when few people understand my rage about this whole situation. My mom was brought up in the 50s and 60s without any kind of feminist teaching. My sister is one of those "submit to your husband" extreme Xians. My boyfriend, well-meaning as he is, still has conservative tendencies. Living in Hong Kong i get news from many different sources, and have been particularly disgusted with the CNN coverage of the 'war on terror'. 'It seems peoples suffering is being packaged as entertainment and the news is no longer news but strategic propaganda. I am 17 and studying at an international school. When the news of sept 11th began to spread i heard some of the most appalling reactions. Many of my teachers belittled my views of pacifism, and i was told that they may have agreed that violence was not the answer 'when they were my age'. Does America believe that it is helping Afgan women by bombing the country they are living in, surely that is putting them at more risk! I don't believe i have ever been as appalled as i have been by the hypocracy of the nation that claims to be 'the land of the free', let hope that when the men have grown tired with playing with their war toys that the opression of women is not forgotten, although i believe that i may be clutching at straws. |

Dear friends, dear anti-war activists! We are a small group from germany who have founded a campaign around the real reasons of this war: Oil. Here in Germany we had the experience that the traditional left and pece movement did not want to point to the oil as main reason for this war. So their slogans and demands are very harmess (i.e. stop the escalation of violence etc.). We think that the real reasons for this war (and the fact that it was planned long before the 11.Sept.) must be more known to the public and should stand in the centre of the anti-war movement. Should people find out that this war is not against terror or against barbarism but is fought for the old reason of oil, money and spheres of influence, they might be far more willing to take action and go demonstrating in the streets. We have gathered a lot of information about oil (and are very happy to find a lot more on your homepage). Even normal german news-magazines like "der stern" have published articles that say that this war is only about the oil-pipeline(yesterday there was an article in the "frankfurter Rundschau" saying that the bishops of brasil say the same thing as we do). I mean, I'm not saying the people inside deserved it any more than the 800,000 disabled Afghans who can't get out of major cities deserve 15,000 pound American bombs in their faces, but let's not forget what those towers represented and what went on in there. Machinations of the World Bank and IMF, and other plots of various transnationals to sack the wealth of the rest of the world... Wait, I got distracted. There are so many threads to all of this that it's easy for one to get sidetracked, and I'm pissed about all of them! They're also doing this because there's a nice little pipeline running through Afghanistan from the Kazakh oil fields to the Arabian Sea -- funny how Unocal Oil was courting the Taliban just before this went down, no? Bah. I am done for now. Still pissed. Still determined. Let them flag my name as many times as they want; they can't silence us all, and my alignment with peace, women's rights, and democratic socialism is no secret. Unfortunately I do not know and have not read of a realistic plan to bring Bin laden to justice. I feel more of an anger to the media kissing up to Dubya, his high ratings, the coverup of the Reagan papers, the so called economic stimulus rewarding the top 1% wealthy elites with billions, the measley benefits to laid off workers, the loss of our civil rights and on and on. Beyond anger means I'm feeling helpless, hopeless and resigned. I'm really frightened about the future. Another thing bothers me - that is Patriotism being associated with making war. Why have those who are seeking peaceful or less harmful solutions remind people that this is just as patriotic as blindly following leaders who believe violence is the only answer to problems here and elsewhere |
