 This site is very beautiful, as the wonderful instrument of which write. I am a happy owner of a very beautiful Novachord, the serial number 82, and step by step I am restoring it completely. I am rebuilding all the capacitors into the old metallic tubes, trying to leave its original look in all the parts.
The works will be hard, but I am a good Hammond technician and I'll be able to make this great work.
I made several tables with the values of all the components that the Novachord has inside the generator, if anyone want a copy of these tables, I can send these.
In my Novachord there is a springs terminals strip for the keyboard broken, if you have any piece, I'll be very interested.
Long life at the king of the syntetizers.

I found it by doing a 'Novachord' Google search having come across the Novachord for the first time in the analysis of Korngold's score for 'The Sea Hawk' on the Korngold Society website.

I am very familiar with Ondes Martinot, Theremin and Cahill's Telharmonium but had not come across this instrument before. Thanks for making a musical instrument enthusiasts day.

Now I will go and play the Sea Hawk tracks on my Korngold CD to see if I can hear it. The very detailed analysis referred to above should allow me to pinpoint it pretty accurately.

 Back around 1965 or thereabouts, I started to restore a Novachord belonging to Walter Sear (note: NOT "Sears") in midtown Manhattan.
Main problem, back then, was that the capacitance of the capacitors had drifted beyond tolerance, and the Novachord used a *lot* of strange, non-standard values. They are not marked with capacitance, but "Pan number" instead. Somebody might possibly have a chart to cross-ref. those. I bought stock values and paralleled as necessary. Back then, it was not hard to find caps. in Manhattan. For practical reasons, I didn't avoid Mylar types.
Walter finally decided that it was going to cost too much, and we reluctantly abandoned the project. I heard enough of it to realize that it did much that a synth. does, with variable attack and decay time, sustain, and adjustable formant filters (better known in Baldwin electronic organs).
I'm quite convinced that it was voiced by musicians; sounded excellent. Being totally polyphonic was a virtue, for sure.

Vibrato was by slow vibrating reeds, six of them at slightly different frequencies. You needed to start them vibrating by moving a lever to "bend" them. You'd then release suddenly, and they'd soon be out of sync. Each reed affected two master oscillators.
The single-tube frequency dividers are amazing to an old tube hand like me; I have only faint clues to how they work.
I do suspect that each tube is cut off for most of the cycle, but am not at all sure. (Walter had no 'scope.)
I was delighted that you posted the schematics! The big one cuts off halfway down, and button numbers 1 thru 6 are dead.
In the power supply schematic, note the shunt 6K6s as ripple reducers. I didn't see any electrolytic filter caps. on two main power supplies!

Apparently, 6W7G tubes are not hard to find, nor are they costly; that's good news.

Don't tell anyone, but a Novachord is internally a divider organ, but with some enveloping and tone coloring (as well as the vibrato scheme) that you won't find (at least all together) in an organ.

I really hope that somebody has a working Novachord somewhere! These were, by far, too good to allow to die off totally.

My parents were born in 1894 and 1904, and they heard the Novachord live or on the radio, and were really impressed by it. I never forgot.
