Would you or any of your group be interested in original Aermotor Fire Lookout Tower drawings from around 1910? I have several original hand drawn drawings. Let me know if you might be interested.

Kane Mtn. is my favorite. I used to stay with family each summer on Canada, Caroga, Peck lakes and go hiking up to the fire tower on Kane Mtn. I remember visiting with the ranger when the tower and cabins were open. Great, easy climb, and wonderful views of the Mohawk Valley and Southern Adirondacks. The old jeep trail from the Green Lake trailhead is a nice alternative to the shorter and steeper ascent from the West. There used to be a toboggon run down the side of Kane Mt. on to Green Lake many years ago. That would have been a blast!!

Just droped in to say Hey! We climbed Lyon Mt. firetower last weekend 4/9/06. What a hike!! It was a winter wounderland on top.In spots there was 3 ft of snow. The sky was so blue and the tower was incased in ice!Very cool.I hope they/someone can save and restore the tower. What great views. The week before that we did Balsam Lk.Mt.and Red Hill firetowers on another beautiful blue sky day.We only have Hunter Mt.to finish the firetower challenge but that won,t stop me from going back to my favorite towers to enjoy the views.

what wonderful memories this site and pictures bring back. I lived with the Harry Baldwin family in Willow, N.Y. and he was a fire observer for Mt. Tremper and took one or two of us with him up the mountain. We also traveled with Ranger Aaron Van De Bogart , who would take us up to Overlook Mt. where we would then walk down to Echo Lake. I will never forget how very beautiful it was at the top of these mountains. Have also walked over Mt. Tobias from Willow and came out in a swampy place behind the old Wittenberg school house. Was going to do the Appalacian Trail from Maine to
Georgia, but waited too long, now have hip replaced and doubt I can do it, but when I shut my eyes, I can still feel the wind on my face and see the mountain ranges for miles and miles. I wore out my joints early from so much hiking, but I enjoyed all those years, and have no regrets. We also came down from the towers by sliding down the sides! Don't advise anyone else to do it, it was a crazy thing to do. Thanks again for pictures. Sincerely, geraldine hoyt

I am seeking information on a fire tower my father (Dick Blackman) worked in. There are very few things i know about it except that it is now located on diplay at the new york state fair. it was originally located on tower rd. in speedsville, new york. I think he worked in this tower in the late 50's or early 60's. Other than that noone seems to know anything, even at the fair. He passed on in 1992 so i cant ask him myself. If you can help me get information i would be very greatful. Please email me with anything you can. Thank you
