Son House was seen be me for the first time on T.V. Son House was talking about the true meaning of the blues. That there was no other blues other than the blues between a man and a woman. I loved him right there & started practicing the music called blues. 30 years ago

Son,

You were a true "cat" before the term was coined. Death Letter Blues, Preachin' Blues...You had it all Son House. A shakin', passionate fusion of guitar and voice that still sends shivers down my spine.

You, Willie and Robert...what a blues jam!!

R.I.T. of Rochester New york filmed and recorded a documentary on Son House, with Son House, at The "Red Creek"in the early 70's , with Muddy Watters in attendance. I know this is true, because I was there.

Mark Sampson and I met an aging and ill Son House in April of 1981, in Detroit. We photographed and interviewed him and have since produced a couple of stories about him, the latest of which (2004) can be viewed at:

God bless all the old guys who were really living the blues, not just singing them.

I have been playing guitar since I was six. I made instrumental heavy-rock cd's and played everything from jazz-rock to symfo. I have also played the Blues for many years, but just recently I have purchased a resonator guitar. For that style Mr. House is my main role-model. His ability to express himself on the guitar is unsurpassed. I LOVE the man, his playing and singing.

Mt Hazel Cemetery is a symbol of blight in it's unkept condition ... but maybe it is also a symbol of the Blues. the Son House marker stands peeking out from the brush as a Black Granite Marker in the midst of Chaos. 'Isn't that the Blues?'
