Blind Lemon Jefferson's singing and guitar-style are beautiful beyond belief. As evidenced by his memorials here, he is best known for the song called "See That My Grave Is Kept Clean." But Mr. Jefferson recorded scores of songs that are the equal of that masterpiece. It is a tragedy that the full extent of his musical genius has been reduced by narrow-minded (or business-minded) anthologists who seem satisfied to continuously reprint the same handful of lovely Jefferson recordings. Because of this, newcomers to the great blues recordings of the 20s and 30s can be forgiven for assuming that Jefferson only recorded a few songs. In fact there are more than 90 Blind Lemon Jefferson recordings still in print. Those who hear and love Jefferson's few famous songs--"Grave," "Hangman's Blues," etc.--should immediately seek out the rest of his extant recordings. They will find, as many do, that almost all of them are astonishing.

Lemon Jefferson is one of the reasons I don't believe in faith, because if there WAS a faith, it would make me and Lemon meet each other.
