A seven cd set of Freddies recordings. My personal review! "EVERY NOTE FREEDIE PLAYED SOUNDS LIKE BACON SMELLS"!!!!!! Music to your ears? MUSIC FOR THE SOUL!!!! TIMELESS!!!!!

The greatest minor Blues solo ever recorded is Leon Russell's "Help Me Through the Day", by Freddie King. The solo conveys the feelings expressed in Freddie's emotion-drenched singing so beautifully, so sympathetically and so completely. I first heard it in the 70's. Nearly 40 years later and I still hold my breath when I listen to it. It is THE perfect solo.

After playing blues for 40 years, I realize that I always come back to Freddie. He was one of the 3 or 4 greatest influences in blues and rock. Living in Austin from 68-88, I had many opportunities to see Freddie at the old Armadillo World HQ. There was never a greater force on stage. His writing, his guitar playing and his incredibly powerful singing were absolutely inspiring in every way. He would have been 75 today. Happy birthday, old friend.

Enjoyed Freddie's company many times as he visited when I was a DJ at KRBA AM radio in Lufkin , Texas( 1965 - 1971). He played outstanding performances at the East Texas Cotten Club in Lufkin, Texas and Slipery Hill Club in Wakefield, Texas ( Trinity County).I did many of his promotional commercials for the events on KRBA.

My grandson graduated from high school recently in Valencia, Ca. , where he enrolled in a class in "guitar", both technical and academic in content. In mentioning to the instructor of my 1960's association with Freddie King , the instructor responded immediately that Freddie was among the top five blues guitarists of all time in music history.

I was most proud to know him then and so proud of his place in music history today.

I live approximately 25 miles from where Freddie was born and raised in Gilmer TX. Several years ago, I wrote and e-mailed the chamber of commerce there and told them that they had been the home of one of the greatest bluesmen ever to record a note. Would you believe they don't even have a marker anywhere in the city? They at least need one at the city limits proclaiming that Freddie was indeed from there. But nothing. Looks like it would be good for tourism. Couldn't hurt. They have a "Yamboree" every year around October with notable personalities performing there. A blues-fest would be a great idea. Who knows what blues personalities would show up? C'mon Gilmer TX, get with it. Show some respect. Feel free to contact me at fredrick_ernest_bowersATYahooDOTcom

Your music captures the way I feel about certain people so well its like you wrote them so I can always picture them in my mind as I play or listen to your songs. Have You Ever Loved A Woman is timeless, every guy has gone through what your talking about in that song. My most cherrished words from you are "I Can Make You Happy, Every Note I Play, I Can Make You Smile, When I Play The Blues My Way". Someday tho Freddie, I'll meet you in the Palace Of The King.
