Sam, you were always my hero. The first album I ever bought was a compilation of your music, entitled simply ‘Magic Sam 1937 – 1969’. After I heard “All Your Love” on Mike Raven’s R&B show on the BBC, I knew I had to have that record. I saved my pocket money and paper-round money for weeks to get it.

As a lonely, slightly nerdy, working class white kid in central England I needed a hero, and that was you. I used to make life decisions on the basis of “What would Sam think…?” You usually got it right to be fair.

You taught me that there was a world outside of my paradigm that was altogether more glamorous and more special than I could ever dream of. You were my faithful friend in my darkest hours of loneliness. Now I am teaching my sons to look to you for guidance.

Thanks, Sam. Rest in peace big guy.

I first heard "Everythings Gonna Be Alright" in 1988 on the radio. The radio Dj said "very beautiful blues in my opinion." I remember the moment well because the song practically brought me to tears. Everytime I hear the song I'm moved, almost to tears. Now, almost twenty years later, I realize that Magic Sam had it all, God's special touches and gifts. He had so much I guess God wanted him for himself. I'm grateful for the songs I do have, for each and every one is beautiful.

Dear Sam, your music touches my soul every day. It makes my life better, richer and sweeter listening to your wonderful voice and your incredible guitar playing. For me you're the absolute best blues artist ever. You had it all and I wish I'd been able to see you play and maybe meet you. You sound like a lovely, down to earth guy who had a lot of bad luck in your short life. I hope you're in a better, happier place, singing and playing your soulful blues. Love, respect and regards.
