There was a sick little boy who lived with his family in Grand Prairie TX. Stevie and his wife as I was told took a special interest with this little boy all the way up until that little boy passed on. I think Stevie, you knew he still needed you. you showed your love for others thru your deeds and your music. Not only do you still make your magic thru the airwaves but every time the 'sky is cryin' I know you are still sharing your heart and soul. ameriproud AT gmail DOT com

When I heard your music, I knew I had discovered a kind of music that would be an important part of my life unlike any other. It was because of you Stevie that turned me on to the guitar. Your were an incredible performer. I sure miss you alot. On your 21st anniversary of your death, your music lives on.

Oh man, I'm sorry to here Nicky died. That's sad, the guy was just on here commenting a little while ago about his struggle and I wished him luck and gave him encouragement to get better, but he probably never saw the comment and now he's gone. I'm sorry for you and your family. I hope he is with Stevie now... because he had the connection with the man, just like many of us feel in our hearts that we do.
RIP Nicky. | |

First off, to the guy who posted a heartfelt comment below, "NICKY BRIAN CURVIS", we are all pulling for you brother. Stevie said that he realized the only way to get better was to ask for help. So, ask for help. Do it now, not tomorrow. You already gave several outstanding reasons why you should get better, so man up and do it. When you are clean and sober you will experience a transformation and clarity in your music similar to what Stevie experienced, and you'll also at last make peace with your family. Good luck.
Ok, now onto Stevie Ray Vaughan. I am a 24 year old guy from Buffalo, NY and I should be listening to the garbage they are pumping out over the radio. But I'm not. I grew up on classic rock and came into my own with the grunge bands of the early 90's. But when I hit my 20's, Stevie Ray Vaughan came into my life. I had what some people call a "religious experience" and I am not going to talk about it because it was meant only for me, but the man reached out to me from the beyond. Since then I have been addicted to his concert bootlegs that you can find on sites like "The Traders Den" or even better "Dime A Dozen". If you went to a concert of his back in the 80's, chances are with a little effort you can find the actual audio of that concert on one of these sites. I have listened to performances from Stevie that only a few hundred people in the entire world have heard, and definitely have never been played on any radio station. His beautiful music is out there people, if you make the effort to look for it. I heard his incredible-possibly-best performance at Alpine Valley the night that he died, I heard the best rendition of "Voodoo Chile" ever at the Mecca Auditorium in Milwaukee. I even got the show he did on the very day that I was born. All incredible and I have only listened to maybe 5% of the concert bootlegs that are out there. I highly recommend joining those sites and getting into this, it's very rewarding. I already have all my favorites on my MP3 player blasting in my car. Songs that NOBODY else in probably thousands of miles have. Anyway, I am nowhere near being able to play the guitar like Stevie and sometimes I want to put down the guitar for good because it's just so overwhelming to hear him do the things he does with the guitar. I have seen the comment "he's not human" so many times on his videos on YouTube and it's true... I watch what he does and yell out "there's no way I can learn to do that!!!". But I also understand that playing the guitar is something that is rewarding. Not everyone can pick one up and play, so it feels good to be able to do at least something with it. Either way, I am happy that he came into my life and after what I experienced, I am dedicated to spreading the word about Stevie and keeping his memory alive. I am a filmmaker, so I hope someday to make a powerful film about him. Lord knows Robert Rodriguez still isn't working on the SRV film he said he wanted to make. In closing, I would like to say that everyone keep doing whatever they can to keep this man's memory alive. Personally, I am collecting every bit of info on the guy I can, especially quotes like the guy below commented about from Eric Clapton talking about how great Stevie was. A lot of ignorant people out there are so gung-ho on Hendrix and EC, that they don't even think Stevie is even in their league, which is insane because he probably was the greatest guitar player who ever walked the face of the Earth. Comments like Eric Clapton saying Stevie was phenominal really puts those types of people in their place. But alas, that's negativity. Stevie wanted us to love one another, and I'm trying to change... I'm trying to live by his words of wisdom. It's hard, but I'm proud to say that I'm making the effort to change. ♫ô♫ Don't trust nobody, don't be no fool, what ever happened to the golden rule? We got stranded......... caught in the crossfire. Stranded.............. caught in the crossfire.ô♫ô

The first song of yours I ever heard was "Testify" on a late night blues show. I thought it was a Jimi Hendrix song I had never heard of. Then the announcer said "THAT was Stevie Ray Vaughan". I was hooked. I turned a lot of people on to your music over the years, and still do. I had the extreme pleasure of seeing you play live in 1986. I was deaf in my right ear for three days after that show in Eugene, Oregon. I cried on my mothers shoulder the day you left us. Clapton was right, you were an "open channel" the music just flowed out of you. Life is too short, so give the ones you love a hug. Love and Peace Forever

Word up Stevie...Im back again! I saw an interview with Eric Clapton yesterday where he quotes"I was cruising in my classic Ferrari Daytona, when I heard this incredile guitar player on the radio....I had never been so blown away and mesmerised..I thought to myself I HAVE TO FIND OUT WHO THIS CAT IS BY THE END OF THE DAY!!!SO I PULLED OVER ON THE HARD SHOULDER,GOING SIGNIFICANTLY FAST AND LISTENED TO THE POIGNIANCY,AND SHEER EMOTION..." Eric then says "THAT HAS ONLY EVER HAPPENED TO ME ONCE OR TWICE IN MY LIFE...I listen to cats play and they normally have the same sound, play the same licks, and have a tendency to be similar..STEVIE was not of this world...I only played with him a few times, crazy and so unfortunate how I was there with him on stage on 25/8/90...then he was gone...." Eric continues.."I remember when I last saw Jimmy Hendrix,we where watching SLY STONE play at the Marquee in London,I had bought him a gift a 1968 LEFT HANDED sunbuurst strat,I had never seen one before, and I never got the chance to give it to him, cause I was at the other side of the auditorium, then he bolted with MONIKA DANNEMAN...Ive still got it...WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT WE HAD LOST STEVIE AS WELL,I WAS FUCKING ANGRY,ANGRY AS SHIT...AND IM NOT AN ANGRY PERSON....THE TWO GREATEST GUITARISTS WHO EVER LIVED ARE GONE...I knew Jimmy quite well we were friends,I never got to have a serious conversation with Stevie, before he died I was convinced GOD had replaced Jimmy with Stevie and I was going to play with him,jam constantly hit da studio and share some wonderful times...I WAS ROBBED AGAIN!!!I THINK WE ALL WERE..Thank GOD Jimmie Vaughan is one of my greatest friends,I get solace when I talk to him because he tells me what a fantastic guy he was....and all about the escapades they used to get up to...Humourous,Hilarious stories. Also I was hounored to do "AIN'T GONE AND GIVEN UP ON LOVE" on Blue Monday...and when BB,Bonnie,Robert,Art,Jimmie and the rest of the gang did "SIX STRINGS DOWN" WOW!!Like Jimmy Hendrix, players like that just not of this world...We will never see Stevie's like ever again...." STEVIE THAT IS FROM SLOWHAND HIMSELF. Its an honour to play your songs with on my 79 strat,I even changed the scratchplate from white to black!!!Unfortunately its got a maple neck and it will never be like "NUMBER ONE" I played"Crossfire" for you last night, got your solo spot on note for note...Even used 13 gauge Ernie Ball super slinky strings...However master I was not you...I put my strat down, and then had a long moment of quiet reflection....remembering how you changed my life...Shook up my guitar gift and made me more spontaneous on solos...so I can now literally never stop or wonder where to go next on the fretboard..It just pours out of me...In any key, I can burn off all the Albert King Three whole step bends and do the Lonnie Mack stuff,Iam going to get my Tremelo bar put at the top of my bridge on my strat,so I can do the clever whammy bar tricks you and Jimmy Hendrix used to do!!!!!!What can I say my master? YOU HAVE BEEN THE GREATEST INFLUENCE ON ME AS A BLUES GUITARIST,AND SONGWRITER IF IT WAS NOT FOR YOU STEVIE I WOULD OF LOST MY WAY LONG AGO...You were the beacon of HOPE in this DEVASTATED EXISTANCE I CALL ME...I get loaded and abuse myself to the point of Deliriousness..Because Stevie I want to experience the way you played when you were high on Narcotics. Then I remembered what you said Stevie"IN STEP" WAS THE ONLY ALBUM YOU RECOEDED WHEN YOU WHERE NOT LOADED ON NARCOTICS OR LIQUOR....AND YOU COMMENTED THAT YOUR PLAYING WAS FAR BETTER WHEN YOU WERE SOBER AND HEALTHY. Stevie,I know I need to address my substance missuse, and drinking addiction. Im in jepordy, and quoting you "IVE GOT A HEART FULL OF DARKNESS,SPOTLIGHT ON MY FACE,THERE WAS LOVE ALL AROUND ME..BUT I WAS LOOKING FOR REVENGE,THANK GOD IT NEVER FOUND ME WOULD OF BEEN THE END.." Stevie all my money from gigs n session work is going on sister morphine,Im dancing with Charlie...and Jack Daniels is my best buddy..." I promise I will get clean and go into private Rehab. I was considering going to Eric Clapton's "CROSSROADS" clinic in Antigua,in the West Indies what dya think Master? Im sure you will give me a sign,in some shape or form...I know you will guide me through this heartbreaking time in my life...Im 33 now Stevie and Im scared...34 next and well,we don't have to be told how the story will conclude if I carry on on this path of SELF DESTRUCTION......Im gonna try and contact you when I sign off, Im gonna play the SRV shuffle in E,then play "Lenny" I feel she broke your heart Stevie...My fiancee was an incredibly beautiful woman,we had a son too. Stevie she gave me chance after chance, after chance to address my drug addiction, and alcohol problem and womanising...I lost them both Stevie, she lost it and snapped, stabbed me,smashed my Telecaster and obliterated my Marshall JCM800 HEAD...and destroyed our beautiful apartment. Then she moved to the other side of the country,Stevie,I have not seen my son for 10 yrs. I know he always asks about me,and is curious. But what is fantastic is that my ex Fiancee has bought him a Gibson Les Paul standard "GOLDTOP"RE-ISSUE" its even got the P90 pickups on it!!!Im still hurting Stevie,we are still crazy about each other, and will always be in love with each other. However, she is the most brilliant mother and did what she did, because I broke her heart and she could not bear watching me killing myself...Stevie she did not want to bring our son up in an environment,of a Junkie guitar slinger...She made the right choice, regadless how angry and furious I get!!!STEVIE THANKYOU FOR EASING THE HEARTBREAK!!!AND COMING INTO MY LIFE..LISTENING AND PLAYING YOUR MUSIC ON MY GUITARS,IM SURE I'LL GET THROUGH THIS MY MASTER.....Forever in my heart, hands, and soul....Nicky..p.s...I love Jimmie's "DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER". Stevie, ya bro is one hell of a six stringer. So is your friend Brian Setzer...Im also going to make a contribution to the STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN FOUNDATION or an amimal shelter in AUSTIN, TEXAS.Because I know you and your MUM loved your pets!!I have also done a brilliant oil painting of you, which I want to have prints made of and the money I get from doing this I will DONATE TO YOUR FOUNDATION OR THE ANIMAL SHELTERS,I will contact my ATTORNEY and get her to get in touch with Jimmie, cause I need his permission to reproduce images of you..That's what I found out on LEE's website...Anyway I signing off now master,GOD BLESS and give me the strenghth to get clean and sober before I kill myself...My mum has already lost a son ,to Meningitis I have lost a brother...I cannot even begin to imagine the devastation I will leave behind if I depart aswell....Thanks for listening STEVIE, R.I.P.

Remember "The day the music died" now I remember the day that "The Blues died". SRV was and is without equal. I miss Stevie very much and always listen for his music. I have been to Laurel Land and I am always saddened by the fact that we have been robbed of a real artist. I am like many others in that I wish I was able to play music even close to his ability. I, much like SRV had a very bad childhood. SRV,like myself was abused as a child and I believe that played a "huge part" in his music as it was in his music if you just listened. The world, the music world and all who loved SRV will never be the same without his mucic. I pray for him and that he is still playing his mucic and I hope to see him someday.

We used to watch Stevie around Austin back when he was struggling with his junkie demon. His brother Jimmy had a great little blues band that gigged the local clubs. At almost every performance, Jimmy would leave the stage and lovingly give Stevie a set with The Thunderbirds(?). Stevie would come out and blister our psyches and souls for 30 minutes with his Jimi-style sound and theatrics, all the while with his head down, his vision turned into his tortured soul, his guitar concentration at 100% and that little smirk on his lips. Later, when Stevie pulled up and was playing stadiums instead of borrowing a band in a juke joint, the skill and love of his art was fulfilled. You could experience his joy at being able to live out his destiny. He was transformed with humility into a messenger that this sort of skill deserves the stage to the world that he was able to find before he was taken from us. Thank Gawd, I will always have his version of Little Wing to play, then replay a few more times before I move to the next song, to bring a tear of love and joy to my parched soul. Friends bemoan him being snatched away so soon, but the truth is that the fact of his deliverance and subsequent prolific output would never have happened if he had not cheated addiction for a few minutes to be able to live his destiny. It was Stevie's humble spirit that allowed us to get that glimpse. However short it was, it was real and he filled every second of that minute of reprieve with a record of joy we will have forever.

Dear Stevie,
When i was first introduced to you, i thought that you were still alive and that i could go see you play. When i heard that you had died before i was even born, i was heartbroken. i am a thirteen year-old blues guitar player and you will always have a special place in both my mind and my heart. I only wish that you hadn't gotten on that helicopter that fateful night. On the anniversery of your death, i took a moment of silence just for you. May you rest in peace.

So I started taking lessons when I was 42 and I am still learning and playing. You are still one of the biggest musical/blues influences for me today. Love you always, J

He Stevie,
It took about 1 song to wype me of my feet! Say What! That was in 1989. The plan was later to visit 1 of your concerts in 1991. It never came so far..... Your music has touched me and so many others, that I still miss that every day. That's why I keep playing your songs, wishing I could play so beautiful, so real and so intense. So to end this message, I say in Dutch: Rust in vrede! See you on the other side!

Hi Stevie, today I did a presentation on you and I said that you are my idol and always will be and that your a god to me. And I've known about you for only four months, but it doesn't take that much time to realize that you're really good. You're a great signer and an amazing guitar player and I'm sure that you were a good person too. And if you were alive I will do anything to get a ticket for one of your show. And I really love your song Little Wings, your just WOW, I have no words to describe you. You're to good. I'm sad that I can't meet you, but I sure that you can see what I'm writing right now... Your an inspiration for all of us down here. I want to thank you for every thing that you did. I have only three things to ask you:
1- Can you say hello to my grand-mother Marguerite Ethier and my god father Richard Unneau. 2- Theres this girl at my school shes about 16 years old and she have a sickness and shes gonna die and I saw her crying today and it maid me so sad so can you tell god to save her please. 3- My grand-father is gonna die soon he as cancer and I wanted to ask you if you can tell god to save him to. I know no one is eternel, but at least tell him to not let him die so soon. Because I already lose my god father like two weeks ago and it was hard, I have enough for the year. Thank you so much and I'll see you in heaven, your a good man!!! P.S.: Rest in peace.

Well for starters I would like to say that he was the best guitar player I have ever heard with a versatility unmatched like any other player and a style all his own. I never had the pleasure of seeing him play live but by the video's I have seen you can see in his face and hear in his playing that he is in euphoric state and that he'd rather be in that moment than anywhere in the world. He is a legend in the guitar playing world and a hero of mine who is in my style of playing. You can tell a lot by a man's guitar or at least I think so, a rugged yet finely tuned guitar says I'm a simple man with simple pleasures and I think that's who he was. Thanks reading and thanks to the Vaughan Family for sharing your stories and pictures I am truly thankful to be a fan of Jimmie and Stevie's

SRV, Thankyou for admitting to have a drug and alchohol addiction. Thankyou for cleaning yourself up. Thanks for preaching to the audience about the evils of it all. Thanks for giving credit to all the blues guys who came before you. Thankyou for your addiction to the blues.

It's been a long 17 years since you left us. It seems like yesterday. I was there when they laid you to rest. This was the day the music died for me. I don't know if you realize it or not but you impacted the lives of many people, myself included, in a positive way because you set an example. You are a musician's musician but more importantly you are a kind compassionate human being. I thank God for you and your gift to the Blues. Heaven's house must be rockin'! God bless you. I love you brother!

Stevie I know you're up there and you can see and hear me. You were once visited by Hendrix after you died and he changed your life. The blues can't die and sometimes I don't feel like I can do it without your help. I know you won't rest until the flame is passed. You will never be forgotten.

"Stevie Ray Vaughn" just your name echo's in our minds. You were but a Guitar God walking amongst us mortal men. But you aren't truely dead, your Heart, Soul, and Spirit live on and will never die. You have left your mark on all of us. We carry you on in our radios, CD's, Music Books and Guitar cases. We brand you uppon our body's with ink. Just your initials are powerful enough for recognition. I can only dream of being as great as you truely are. Often you are imitated but I'm afraid you shall never again be duplicated. You and your Guitar were never two sepperate entities, they were one with each other as much as my arms and legs are to me. There was a divine bond placed upon you and you brought happiness to the world in which you lived. We are forever thankful, we will never forget you. You have played us hundreds of songs through out the years. Maybe it's time we played you one.
