| Comments: | My Dad was a Korean War Veteran for nearly 2 years between 1950 and 1953 but I don't have the exact dates. His name was Reginald Otto Lawson (Reg) and he was from Nobel Ontario. He was burnt while in the Korean War but again I don't know all the details. I would love to find out anything I can about my father during his time in Korea. My father died June 20, 1956 (did not die in Korea, he died of a heart attack at home...he was stationed at CFB Borden near Barrie Ontario at the time of his death....a soldier is serving 24/7 in my opinion. He was off work and had been playing baseball in Barrie and came home from the game as a result of chest pain. |

| Comments: | The Canadians were NOT alone, why do you say this? The Australians had conducted an ordered fighting withdralwal after running out of ammo and the topography being inclement to air re supply -they had regrouped in front of the British Middlesex, the Chinese had came on to meet them, but when noted that there was defence in force in front then wheeled to try to go through the Canadians, in the meantime, US forces came up to plug gaps and assist all units. So why??? perpetuate an untruth? The Canadians fought with supreme courage and tenacity, but they WERE NOT ALONE! |

| Comments: | Dear all the heads of state, War veterans, the people who had served in the Korean War. We, Koreans, owed a profound debt of gratitude towards all the heads of state, War veterans, and the people who had stood with us and served in the Korean War for the universal values of liberty and peace. We are the civic group ¡°BLUEEYES¡±. The monitors of national security working against everything that poses as serious threats to our national security such as pro-North Korean forces for upholding liberal democracy. This is our internet website, http://cafe.naver.com/iblueeyes. The Korean War started 61 years ago today. On 25 June 1950, the communist North Korea had invaded South Korea and attempted to communize the whole peninsula. Then you came to South Korea in hopes of defending liberty for people who had been utter strangers to you. The Republic of Korea was ruined by the war. Only 50 years ago, Korea was one of the poorest countries in the world and now we are the country in the best interests of other poor countries. Korea currently is reaching the tenth largest economy in the world and ranks the No. 7 among the export economies. This is a wonder. We, Koreans, are sure that because of over 94,000 soldiers, servicemen and women from our allies, we could defend our freedom and the wonder has become a possibility. We owe a real debt of gratitude to your countries¡¯ young men and women. We would like to offer our heartfelt condolences and consolation with respect and honor to the victims and their bereaved families. The great sacrifices and the brace of your noble young men and women have established the current Republic of Korea. We also thank you for your confidence and support over the Cheonan Navy Ship, which was sunk in March due to North Korea¡¯s attack, also thank you for the support over the incident on Yeonpyeong Island. We want to tell the world that the majority of Koreans¡¯ heart is filled with gratefulness that we won¡¯t ever forget. The debt of gratitude owed to all the heads of state, War veterans, people who had served in the Korean War is indeed profound. Thank you." | Comments: | Greetings to whomever would be reading this message. I am a South Korean college student who experienced North Korea's attack against ROK Ship Cheonan and Shelling of Yeonpyeong-do. After all this incidents, I wanted to express the great amount of gratitude to the veterans that protected our country from North Korea. It's already been 61 years from the outbreak of Korea war. Over the last 61 years, on the base of ruins of disasterous war, South Korea has established much of great accomplishments which no others could have ever expected in both cultural as well as economical aspects. Recently, we became the one and only country which switched from Economic aid recipient to an Assisting country. Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, one of the countries participated in Korean War is now our major aid recipient. In 2010, South Korea was the presidency of G20. Also in next year, 2012, we are holding a Global Summit on Nuclear Security where 50 heads of state are gathering. And it took only 61years for us to stood up here, the rank of Developed Country. On top of every honor that brightens our country, there were valuable sacrifices of you guys who'd fought for our territory and people. And I live everyday of my life diligently, because I know those noble spirits brought peace, built South Korea, and gave me MY LIFE. Thank you once again and God bless to you all. |

| Comments: | Our 19 year-old son is planning to travel to Asia this fall, and he hopes to make his first stop in Korea. He will land in Seoul and make his way to Kapyong to honour his grandfather, Wally Austman, who was a PPCLI member during the Korean war. Does anyone have any suggestions for his travel? Are there places in Gapyeong where he can buy a wreath or flowers to lay at the memorial? Is there a Korean ritual or tradition that he should follow? My father always wanted to go back, and was actually chosen to make the trip last year. Unfortunately, we didn't get the notification until after he passed away in January, 2010. He was so proud to be a member of the PPCLI and of the local Legion chapter. He would be so proud to see his grandson visit the country that he longed to revisit. We only wish he were able to be with him. |

Both bring back memories as if they happened yesterday. This is an absolute must for every veteran and his family. It will surely keep alive the memory and sacrifice of every veteran for generations to come. To 'The Crew' thank you for a job well done!!! |

| Comments: | I am the widow of André L. Michaud. André served in Korea for the duration with the Royal 22e Régiment. He did his basic training at La Citadelle De Québec. He was Air Borne and bilingual. Great sense of humour. I am assuming that this Final Gathering of the Korean Veterans will include the Royal 22e Régiment, and hope that anyone who remembers him will contact me. I am trying to get information for his children and grandchildren. He didn't talk very much to the family regarding his experiences,But as his wife and now widow I can assure you he suffered terribly from PTSD. I do know that he was in a hospital in Japan for injures, during his stay in Korea. He went to Korea with his original unit and returned with another 22e unit. He was always very proud of his time in the forces. I hope to hear from some of you who may have known him.. I hope you gathering is a success. I am only sorry that he is not here to be with you for this final get together. Best regards Valdine Michaud. |

I was schedule to do it on the day before Rememberance day, but due to the power black out on that day I'm doing it today which is the day after Rememberance day. I know I'll see one of the Korean War veteran there the one I met 5 years ago and said thank you. I just want a lot of Canadian remember what their grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts, cousins did for Korean people and let them know Koreans remember. Canadians should know about that and be proud of them like we, Koreans, do. I got into this website during my last research before the presentation and I just can't leave here without saying something. I pray you all well and I'd like to say this, "We remember you and we thank you." |

| Comments: | Hello, I am the son of a Korean War Veteran. My Dad, Robert 'Bob' Childs was in the RCN from 1949-1954. Also he would go on to work for many years for Veterans Affairs at Sunnybrook Hospital's K Wing in Toronto. While in the navy he served on a variety of ships including the Haida and Nootka. He died in 1994 from cancer. Our family has recently found out it was due in part to the asbestos found on the ships during that time. My mom has been awarded financial compensation along with the Memorial Cross because of this. If anyone has a similar story I would appreciate hearing from you. In addition if you knew my Dad I would also appreciate hearing from you. This recent revelation has brought up alot of emotions and memories. |

| Comments: | Great Grandson of RSM GD Gilpin (Johnny), 1 RCHA I am resarching and writing a book of my great grandfather - RSM GD Gilpin (Johnny). He was the regiment's RSM for WW2. I am wondering if you ever met him or not. He was winding down his career by then but did act as an artillery advisor - in some capacity at the start of the Korean war (as some information would indicate). If you have any information tht you can share that would be fantastic, if not that is just as fine. I am retired PPCLI out of Calgary. Thank all of you for your service. Regards. | Comments: | I was 5 years old when my stepbrother Private Joseph Meilleur was sent to Korea with The Princess Patricia infrantry, in 1951 or 52. He passed away back in the late 80's. I have some of his letters home written to mom and a few "souvenirs, like the 'newspaper of the ship he was sent over in etc. What I would really like is to see if I could find out if there are still some of his buddies who would remember him and bring him back to my life somehow, so I could show my grandchildren & great grandchildrenn about what their valiant uncle Joe did for our country and free people everywhere. My children addorred him. He never spoke much about what happened over there but I don't want for him to be forgotten. I'm 64 now and trying very hard to learn the electronic hyway but at my age it's not easy. Can anyone help set me on the right track? It would mean the world to us and to Joe's memory. I will look forward to hearing from you, or anyone knowlagable in this area of expertise. Your's sincerely, Mrs. Francoise Lavergne (nee)Proulx |
