| Comments: | Related to Sir Robert Laird Borden, Canadian Prime Minister. Our daughter lives and works in Toronto. In Seoul my USA unit was adjacent to "Brit Sub Cmd North" which included detachment of Canadian military police. Much Comradeship then. Will there be a Canadian observance of the Korean War Armistice on 27 July 2003? Will it be in Ottawa or elsewhere? Will US veterans of the Korean War be invited? Would appreciate a reply for planning purposes. Merci! Cliff Borden, Life Member, KWVA of U.S. |

| Comments: | Editors Seeking Korean War Letters Paul and Audrey Grescoe recently finished compiling the first-ever general collection of letters written by Canadians. The Book of Letters: 150 Years of Private Canadian Correspondence will be published this fall by Macfarlane Walter & Ross, a division of McClelland & Stewart of Toronto. The publisher has commmisioned them to compile a second volume, to be released next year. The Book of War Letters: Two Centuries of Private Canadian Correspondence will range from the War of 1812 to Afghanistan, and again will be the first such collection to be published in Canada. They are seeking letters to and from Canadian veterans of the Korean War, which will communicate some of the drama and everyday life in the battle zones and on the home front during those years. If you have such correspondence, they would appreciate receiving copies only, along with any relevant background information, at The Book of War Letters, RR1, I-33, Bowen Island, B.C., V0N 1G0. Please include your address, a daytime phone number and/or email address. The editors will notify you well before publication to request formal permission to use any of your letters. |

| Comments: | Arrived North of the Parker Memorial (Pintail) Bridge in Mar '53 after a pleasant 21 day cruise on the Marine Lynx from Seattle to Yokoham, train to Hiro and then the Wo Sang from Kure to Pusan, then train to Seoul, and truck to my unit, the 25th Commonwealth Divisional Provost Company, which was in "Div Rest" along the North bank of The Imjim. In May '53 I accepted an invitation to join Sgt Marty Doerksen's C Pro C Section attached to 3 PPCLI where I was appointed Jr NCO i/c of The Patricia's guardroom at "A" echelon, reporting to a fine gentleman by the name of Sockeye Salmon WO 2 HQ Coy. On the evening of the 27th July '53 I was on "point duty" at a crossroad leading up to the battalion's TAC HQ when the "cease fire" was announced and the skies on both fronts were lit up with flares in celebration. Doerkesen and yours truly had our kit inspected by Canada Customs in "the field" and we were to be rotated home with the battalion via troop ship from Inchon, however, Marty & I received a personal invation from the APM Tokyo to remain in the Far East and complete our tour of duty. I was then posted to the Base Commonwealth Provost Company, on dock security at Kure, Japan and enjoyed this so much that I applied for an extension and was flown home from Tokyo to Vancouver via Shimya in the Alutians (sp ?) in 18 hours on Canadian Pacific Airline's "Empress of Rio de Janeiro" Thanks for rekindling fond memories by way of your great KVA web site. My very best to you all. Bob L. |
