Shelby Karafa-Donnelly, an Alumni of Oak Park and River Forest High School (Class of 1990), is currently on the transplant waiting list at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and desperately needs your help. Shelby was diagnosed in December 2006, with cirrhosis of the liver due to a large thrombosis obstructing the main vessel carrying blood and fluid to the liver. Although the original cause of the thrombosis is not known, it has been present and taxing Shelby’s liver and other organs for the past fifteen years, just less than one half of her young life. This condition has caused life-threatening damage to her liver and her only remaining medical option is transplantation. As there is no guarantee if or when a matching liver will be available, Shelby continues to face each day with determination accompanied with a healthy dose of humor. If there were any doubts in Shelby’s determination and fight for life they are continually dispelled when she talks about retuning to work and continuing in her pursuit to make a positive difference in others lives. Because of the extraordinary expense of transplantation, funding this life saving operation is a monumental task. Even with health insurance, there are significant uninsured expenses such as healthcare deductibles, co-payments, transportation/parking and medications. To help with some of these uninsured medical expenses a fundraising campaign has been established in Shelby’s honor with the National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF). From there, you have to search for your school, and at some point you can fill in the year you graduated. You can do this separately for all your other schools - college, post-grad, prison (kidding) whatever. If you did it correctly, you should see your schools on your home myspace page. click on Oak Park River Forest, and from the next screen you'll see the class forums with the newest messages, so if you don't see class of 92, its just because it doesn't have any recent messages, so click "View all topics," and you should see it.

| Comments: | A couple of folks emailed me about this message board so, wow, I guess SOMEBODY'S bitterness is going a long way on the internet. Thanks to whoever posted the last post, but I think it's clear that somebody just wasn't, um, "curious" enough to actually read the rest of televisionwithoutpity.com and see that I'm just a staff writer and NOT one of the founders, the site's been around for a couple of years, and the whole purpose of the site is to make fun of tv shows. Read the article linked above if you're still curious or still don't get it.
And yes--we thought it would be funny to have the OPRF grad on staff cover the show. From what I've heard from some of the cast members, they think so, too. In short: it's just a REALITY SHOW and it's my job to make fun of it. Kind of like how it's the job of the cast to act like THEY haven't gotten over high school, either. As for hometown loyalty, I think most OPRF folks are smart enough to get this, right? |

It's curious that you are comfortable judging someone else's high school experience based entirely on her writing about a Network Reality Television Program. And even more curious that you didn't take the time to find out what Television Without Pity was all about before you decided that it was all a front for Wendola's obvious high school angst. And probably the most curious that you have read her recaps and taken them as a personal affront to your hometown. If anything, they provide an interesting and accurate background to the "reality" being played out on the beach. So, Curious, before you light your torches and stomp down the halls of OPRF looking for Wendola, you should ask yourself why your are so offended by Wendola's hysterical play-by-play of High School Reunion antics. Maybe you identify too much with the fools that everyone, including the people on this board, are mocking. I'm curious, did you think that your comments about Wendola weren't bitter and resentful? Good thing we've got the Internet so that you can spread your bullshit a long way. |
