| Comments: | Hi All, I was a RAF Brat. Hope you don't mind me joining this illustrious Guest Book. My Dad's not well at the moment and I'm looking for anyone and everyone who knew him. It will bring a great amount of joy to him and lighten up those hospital visits a little if I can read out any emails from mates he knew. I can only go by where we/he was stationed. He made Flight Sergeant and was stationed in: Aden late fifties, Akrotiri,Cyprus late fifties early sixties, RAF Upwood Huntingdon mid sixties, RAF Bicester for @ 3 months, RAF Catterick mid '60s, RAF Middleton-St George to 1968, 15 Field Squadron RAF Seletar, Singapore 1968 - 1969, RAF Wittering 1969 - 1974/5, RAF Waddington 1974/5 - 1976/77, RAF Wildenwrath late 70's - early '80s retired and worked in Security for the Army in Krefeld mid '80s thru to '90s. There may be the odd mistake regarding dates. I would love to hear from anyone at all who knew him or of him. Cheers |

| Comments: | Just come across your website.Brings back some good memories (and bad)Bad memories are the ones that come with the smell of Tiger beer also the yellow haze that accompanies them.
I served on 1 field Butterworth from 1962 until 1965. i now live in the Teeside area, where ther is still a largish population of old Rocks.does anyone remember Danny Sailor Wilson, Sid Siddique,Taf Powell, Squash Warburton,Don Birmingham, Vicki Sigsworth, Jock Sinclair,Pete Lamb (deceased). All live or lived in the Darlington,Teeside Area. If any one knows the whereabouts of Mick Franklin ex 1 field and 2 field squadron, his big buddy Vic Sigsworth has been looking for him for years. They were separated when Vic was posted to Cyprus in the late sixties early seventies. If anyone has information on Mick get in touch with me and I will pass it on to Vic. He would be overjoyed if he could get in contact with Mick, they were like brothers. |

| Comments: | A great site. I have just discovered some photos of my Dad, Brian Deeley, on Nick Dandeker's page from his days in Cyprus. He is listed as 'Speedy'.
My Dad suddenly passed away this year and I am now doing some research into RAF Regiment Parachute Units. I would be very pleased to hear from anyone who served with or knows anyone who served with the NEAF Parachute Rescue Force, 3 and 5 Wing Parachute Teams in Cyprus or the Far East Parachute Rescue Team and the Parachute Teams of 1, 15, 26 and 63 Squadrons in the Far East. Thanks very much Graeme Deeley |

So many memories of Nicosia, Akrotiri, Tengah, Leuchars, Gutersloh, Gibraltar, St Athan and many more. Most of you will know that Brian died in 1996, aged 50, of good living.
Our son tried it for a while and then decided to go Supply but grandson is joining the Corps next year. Brian would have been so proud. Does anyone know if there is still Randall's wood on the OS maps in Germany? Merry Christmas to you all. |

I have a feeling his name is mentioned elswhere in an article about a Landrover and a Matador?? I'm pretty sure he was the detachment commander at RAF Gong Kedah on at least one of my two week stints over there? Had an interesting time especially the evening trips to Kota Bahru and "The Belvedere" I think it was called? Have some photos taken on one detachment which I will look out. I couldn't help be tickled by "that bloody monkey"!! it took me back to my own little sojourn at Butterworth from '56 thru' to early '59 when 487 Signals Unit transferred down to Sembawang thence to Seletar - such dreadfully civilised places. OUR monkey at Butterworth was called "Bimbo" - he was a Rhesus bloody negative as far as we were all concerned. Toothpaste, cigarettes nay, even bloody Brylcreem! the little ratbag was into everything. But the most excruciating occasion occurred when he went after "Big Blue". BB was a large ill-bred but handsome yellow Labby type dog. He was the only living being to my knowledge that could make mincemeat out of the excess hard tack biscuits that some eedjit in FEAF had overbooked when requisitioning "K" rations. Periodically we had these things foisted onto us for supper in an effort to reduce the bikky mountain. Anyway, BB in order to overcome the effect of his awesome calorie-intake took to kipping under some palm trees behind our living block. Bimbo was such an a***hole that we could never leave him off harness unattended. So we used to attach him via a long wandering line to BB's collar. BB, to ease the weight on his guts that the "ship's biscuits" created took to snoring on his back in the shady paradise. Now another of BB's attributes, apart from THE most placid of natures was the most amazing set of jet black balls. Quite remarkable on such a yellow dog! Bimbo, one utterly boring, hot, sultry, Malayan, summer afternoon spied these magnificent gonads and decided to play with them - gently. BB moaned his ecstacy - and wriggled in joy. The movement upset Bimbo and, as his nature was always geared to attack first, he sank his not inconsiderable teeth into BB's poor old balls. BB took off at a pretty fair rate across the grass, leaping the enlarged monsoon drains that the Aussies had recently had built with the greatest of ease. The last I saw of Bimbo was his poor hairy little body bouncing along - boing, boing, boing - yelling loudly the while. Serve the little barstid right!!!! |

| Comments: | Hello Rocks
I was just scanning this site to try and trace Tommy Temple (Cpl in charge 43rd Entry Boy Entrants Hereford 1961-1962) to attend out reunion next year and was delighted to find the photos from Butterworth. I was 1 Squadron's storebasher in 1966 and had the best time of my tour with the lads. the photo of the chopper training is of me, with what looks like Nick Bacon in the background. We were on the demonstration team and flew about the place giving demos to the Malay army boys. Great fun but I remember laughing at our radio operator(it may even have been Nick)when he slid down the rope and burnt his hands quite badly. For my sins I was told I'd be carrying his radio from thence forth. Bloody heavy it was too. The China Rock convoy to Singapore will stay in my memory for some time, not least for the mosquito bites I suffered on our overnight stay in (I think) Kuala Lumpur. One of the troops was seen to keel over on his way back from the toilet blocks and Mr Sylvester (Squadron Warrant officer) told me I'd better get Tom the medic. On closer inspection, Tom was the prone one!!! Happy days. I think I've got some photos of the squadron and will try and operate this scanner of mine and send them through. If anybody remembers Tommy Temple and knows where I can contact him, please let me know. Many thanks for some very happy memories. 'Taff' Price (Honorary Rock Ape 1 LAA Squadron) |

My only experience of Butterworth was passing through en route to Gan, where 26 provided a riot squad when Addu Atoll tried to break away from the Maldives. Your photos remind me of those far off days when the world was young, and Rockapes dressed properly For sheer elegance you couldn't beat a Rock in his well tailored No2HD, web belt, AP boots and gaiters, with that special way of wearing a beret that used to drive SWOs nuts. Todays combat kit looks like it was designed by Laura Ashley. There are faces on the photos that I recognise, but sadly, I cannot put names to them, but if there is anyone out there who remembers me from those days, it would be great to hear from them.

| Comments: | Hi,
Have been looking around your very interesting site and have already made an entry in the Tanjong Bungah Guest pages but thought I might add some more here as is more relevent to the RAF Regiment. I served in 2600(City of London)Squadron RAuxAF Regiment from 1956 till disbandment the following year '57. We were a Field Squadron based at RAF Biggin Hill. I was trained as a Gunner/Signaller and our Honourary Air Commodore was HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. On Disbandment I joined the TA and learned to shoot aircraft down rather than defend them. I even completed the "layers" course at the School of AntiAircraft Artillery ant Manobier in South Wales, qualifying on both L60 and L70 Bofors. I then joined the RAF as a Ground Wireless Mechanic and served all over the world till 1980 when I retired. I served in Germany, Malta, Cyprus, Muharraq, Masirah, Sharjah & Salalah and Gan. More relevent to your story is the fact that I was at Butterworth 1965/67 and have on the desk in front of me a copy of the printed program for "The Ceremony for Handing Over the Squadron Standard of No.1 Squadron RAF Regiment at RAAF Butterworth, on Friday 21st October 1966 at 1500 hours. I have a large number of photographs of the parade and also of the Squadron boarding the RAF Brittania's at Butterworth on their way home to the UK. When we first came to Butterworth we lived at Road No.2, Chee Seng Gardens, Tanjong Bungah and our next door neighbours were Ted and Louis Renhard.Ted was the Orderly Room Clerk for No.1 Squadron. We kept in touch for a number of years as they moved round the country and we in turn moved around the world, but lost touch in the 70's. Would be nice to touch base with them again and find out if Louis managed the SIX children she was planning to have. I am planning a large website for all these photos of Butterworth as well as the others from places as far apart as teh Outer Hebrides and Singapore. I will post detail around as soon as it is up and running. I promise you it will be large and will take a lot of viewing but hope people will enjoy remembering. My wife and I went back to Penang in May this year (2002) and are going back again next year. We are gradually going round the old places. Have been back to Malta a number of times and are off to Cyprus, the the Far East again followed by Gan (received the brochure this morning. By the way anyone interested in Gan? There is to be a reunion of ex Gannites 29th March 2003 at RAF Odiham. See www.rafgan.co.uk. Cheers and Beers for now Dick Harcourt |

| Comments: | Hello George,
Great site, the inspection report was a gem, reminds me of Flt Lt Daly OC basics when I was an instructor there all he did was write report after report on how untidy the blocks were - wouldent of minded but he remustered to a rock officer from a telephone operator...just a jumped up guin as far as I was concerned.. still water under the bridge. All those who know me feel free to drop me a line or visit my site. Rock On |

| Comments: | Howdo, You mentioned a name which I recognise but can't quite recall where from. That being Jake McQueen. I was on 51 from 73 to 76 at Wittering and 16 Wildenrath from 76 to 79. But I'd like to know where I know Jake's name from. I'm sure he was an NCO anyway.
Good to see another Rock site, keep up the good work, the more we have the more we will be seen. |
