| Comments: | For God to Bless you with the ability to conceive a child is a GIFT you might believe he has giving to us out of Love. But what is it then if he takes it back? It's only natural to be Mad and in need to know "WHY??" Is it something you've done? Is it something you are doing or not doing? The doctor may have told you that Anencephaly is Not Hereditary and it's Nothing you did or can do about it. So then "why?"
If it's not punishment then why you? I believe it's for a reason. What that reason is - I don't know, I can't tell you but I can share my belief. Jacob was born and died of Anencephaly. For the time consisting of a few hours that he was alive his parents were grateful for and will always cherish. Having discovered through test results and ultrasound several months earlier Jacob's parents were informed of his situation and gave them options. If Jacob's mother had little or No faith she might of aborted him and live with the fact for the rest of her life that; God gave her a Gift, had doubt - questioned his intension, didn't like it and threw it away. But Jacob's mother chosen Not to abort him, she accepted God's gift, she believed God has a plan and continued on with the pregnancy. I believe that her faith again & again was being tested and no matter how hard it got she committed herself not to take the easy way out, not to fall out of faith. Receiving Graces from the Saints and through her prayers she continued her path. The moment came to where Jacob was born. Surrounded him was his family keeping him warm with love. Among friends he was rejoiced and felt in their hearts. He was Baptized - free of sin and ready for the Lord. Mother and Father opened their arms as the Angel came near. Knowing that their son was now to be with the Lord. |

I am so happy for you and your family that you have had a wonderful beginning with your daughter in her new world. It was so horrifying going into the hospital on that mornining knowing I was about to have my baby, and watching other mothers leave with theier babies and all I left with was a memory of my little girl.

DOB: 26/2/2006 Wieght: 71grams Size: 8cm from head to bottom Each day is so very hard and as you can see we have only recently gone through the hardest decision of our lives and interupped our pregnancy and we now have our very own angel. We are trying very hard at the moment to come to terms with everything and we found your page very touching. We chose the name Micheal because it is Irish and it means "Who like God" and an angel is the closest to god that you can ever get also we chose it because of Arch Angel Michael who is one of the strongest angels in heaven. We can only hope that he is beside our son looking after him until the day comes when his mum and dad can hold him in their arms whenever we reach heaven ourselves. We have an album full of precious things like our pregnacy test, letter of appointment from the hospital and lots of cards of smypthay and blessings from family and friends. We sometimes feel angry because we didn't think that we would have to be handling grief at this time in our lives. The day that we chose his grave i remember telling my mum that i feel like god is being unfair to us because we our out choosing our childs grave instead of a pram or cot etc. But i have to have faith in god right now and not be angry with him because he is the one who is standing over my child at this moment in time. My mother and my sister were with us when we gave birth to our son and i have never seen bigger smiles on peoples faces when we looked upon him. He brought such comfort as he had a smile on his face, he had lips like his dad and long fingers like his mum. I am so glad that we spent some time with our son before leaving the hospital. I was told on Friday the 24th February that it would probably take just one day and he would be born but it took three days and it was terrifying for both of us and it was our first pregnancy and we didn't really know what to expect but if anyone has to make the decision we did i would most certainly advise them to spend time with their child after the birth because we went into hospital with such heavy hearts and after seeing him it seemed to ease slightly and i believe that seeing our son help us greatly. Our prayers are with every person (grannies, grandad's, mums, dads, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, etc) who have been effected by the loss of a child. God bless and take care. I have had so many different emotions following her death. The poems you have listed are just wonderful--I have never read poems that relayed what I was going through more accurately. Throughout this experience, I have lost friends and realized which friends I could really count on. I have had people who have said rude and ugly things to me regarding our daughter's condition, some not even realizing what they have said. These people will never understand a mother's love for their child. I have people chastise me for being angry at God for letting something like this happen. Thank you for letting me know I am not alone. I love your "snowglobe", "I am still a Mom". So true, we are all still moms and we were good ones! |

| Comments: | Gabriel sounds like he was a fine young man. Although i havent lost a baby in this way it has touched my heart when my sister and hausband found out their baby had T18. My sister was 17 weeks gestation and the ultrasound detected it. They both decided to interrupt the pregnancy as the outcome if they chose to go full term was going to be the same. I was devistaed to hear the bad news as i was expecting good news that everthing was okay. My sister was devestated as was her husband and the rest of the family. After further tests that revealed the same outcome my sister gave birth to a girl Jade Taylor a little sister for Jessyca (who was 18 months old), who weighed 11 ounces. Jade will always be in our hearts and I dedicate this message to Jade and Gabrielle for being part of our families even if it was only for a little while. So from an Aunties point of view I feel for both you and your husband as well as relatives.

I lost my litle perfect baby boy named William after his daddy. I found out my baby had T18 when I was 5 months. I decided to terminate the pregnancy and not have my baby suffer. I went through normal pregnancy procedures and got to see my little boy.He was born on July 23, 2005 at 7:37 pm. He was 9 in. and 11 oz. he was so tiny and perfect. I kept wishing this was all a nightmare, but it isn't. I know theres a reason why things happen and I know my baby couldn't be in better hands, but that doesn't make this pain any lighter. And I do not wish this even to my worst enemy. All I have is a box of my little boy's belongings and a memory of me beign able to at least have met him. And until we meet again he will always be my first born, my litle perfect baby boy. Who will always occupy a special place in his daddy's and mommy's heart. | Comments: | I am very sorry for your loss. I just had a son on July 11, 2005 at 7:32 pm who had Trisomy 18. His name was Jason Adam Hawkins, we laid him to rest July 14, 2005. He had stopped growing inside of me at 21 wks and 3 days, but i didnt find out about this until I was 27 wks. I spent a few days in the LSU hospital in Shrevesport, La. There, they did an amniosyntesis and then found out that he had Trisomy 18. I know what you're going through. Only I never got the chance to hold my little boy. | Comments: | In January last year (2004) my very dear friend found out she was pregnant after 6 mth of trying. She was told by her period dates she was about 8 weeks along. In February that year, I found out I was pregnant too and we were excited to be pregnant together. We had one baby shopping day together.
My friend went for her early dating scan, and no embryo was seen on the ultrasound. The doctor told her she had a "blighted ovum" where no baby or sac formed. He said there was a very slight chance that she was not as far along as first thought, but recommended a d&c. She waited a week and had another ultrasound which confirmed no baby. The following week, she went to the hospital for her d&c and her partner begged the Doctor for an ultrasound to confirm there was no baby, on the very slight hope that two ultrasounds had been wrong. I still remember her calling me in tears because the third ultrasound had confirmed the presence of a living baby about 7-9 weeks into gestation. We started to celebrate and could not understand the confusion between her dates, and her 12 week ultrasound was booked in. This is the ultrasound now routinely performed in Australia (are you aussie?) to check for neural tube defects and the possibility of chromosomal abnormalities. She had thought the baby was a girl had recurring dreams where she saw a little boy playing with blocks and she ran and spun him around playing helicopters. While this was happening a little girl would be wanting to play but my friend kept on ignoring the girl. She called and told me there was a problem with the ultrasound, and that she needed to have an amniocentesis. Her partner was hopeful everything would be alright, because the baby had already been saved by one miracle. When we were alone my friend would tell me about how clearly she saw the large bulge on the back of the babies head. She told me there was something wrong with her daughter and thats why she wouldn't play with her in her dreams. Her amnio confirmed the baby had trisomy 18 and was a little boy. She decided to terminate the pregnancy straight away. One time while my tummy grew big and fat, she was rubbing it and poking it trying to get my son to kick her hands she started to cry and asked me if i remembered the dream she had and why was it wrong? I told her our interpretation was wrong, and that her little boy wanted to give her a happy memory of him instead of all the sad ones, so he came to her in a dream to play helicopters. My son is 6 months old now, and she has only seen him twice. I call her to see how she is, they have not been able to conceive again yet. I miss her but let her know I am waiting for her. I have talked about her son with her and what a great man he would be, strong, kind, proud and loving. And how he is and always will be loved. Whenever she is ready she knows I am here. I have always wondered if I do the right thing in talking about him, but always felt that she needed a place to bring him, even though he was never born, I wanted her to know that his memory was safe with me and welcome in my home and my heart. I think after reading your story and reading the poems that it is. Thank you for sharing and also for placing a picture of your son on here. My sister is now 43 years old and this is her first child. Today they are going to a Genesist to confirm the Amnios results and to hear it a second time from someone else to I guess help it to sink into their heads. They are at this point thinking of not keeping the fetus and their families are here for them. She was diagnosed with Trisomy 18 when she was 4 days old. We were told that she would probably survive two months at the most. She was in the NICU for a week on oxygen and a feeding tube. The doctors taught us how to use the feeding tube and they said that she needed to be at home with her family. Ansley passed away while I was holding her on June 27,2004. We miss her very much like you and your family miss your Gabriel. I am very sorry for the loss of both of your babies. After all this time I have nevcer gotton over his birth and the situation in which he was born. I actually gave birth to him alone and into a commode pan. I went into shock for a few days and finally asked to see him four days later. The nurse brought him in for me to hold in a white plastic bucket and gave me a pair of rubber gloves to put on to hold him. That has scarred me for life and has always made me feel as if his birth was dirty and not significant. To me, I feel like a murderer and wil never forgive myself for giving uo on him so easily. God bless anyone who has to endure the pain and torture that I am living. I feel so alone. |

| Comments: | I personally have never lost a child of my own to Trisomy 18. But, in a sense, it's as if I have. One of my favorite cousins - 22 years old, beautiful, smart, and in love - was, much to her delight, pregnant. When the baby was born, it died less than half an hour later from Trisomy 18. 2 years after that, my other amazingly smart and pretty 17 year old cousin dropped out of school and moved in with her boyfriend. Months later we found out she was pregnant, and her baby would also die of Trisomy 18. She had the baby, and not long after that it died. They were both beautiful baby girls, and everyone immedietly loved her with all their heart. Saying good-bye and letting go of them was one of the hardest things I, and they, have ever had to go through. Your site was amazing in helping us cope with this. Words will not be enough, and I can say is - thank you. |
