I'm hoping for personal help from Bill or an associate of his in regard to a murder mystery that happened many years ago to my family. My grandfather was bludgeoned to death and his wife, my grandmother, was accused and found guilty of the crime. There is much detail that I want to share with someone who can hopefull help me. I'm currently hoping to get copies of the jury transcripts from this trial that took place in March 1933, yes I know, a long, long time ago, can anyone please help me in this endeavour?

I’m a HUGE Bill Kurtis fan. I’d be surprised if there was an American Justice or Cold Case Files I have NOT seen. today I finished reading his 'death penalty on trail' book and I wish I could express how it felt to have someone so knowledgeable and respected to feel the same way about your American death penalty as I have for YEARS. It’s hard for me to do anything from Canada, but I do what I can. I feel such a sense of relief that after all these years your system of capital punishment is coming into light as grossingly errored.
Bless you Bill; you truly are the epitome of an icon. The movie 'Dead Man Walking' did NOT do justice for Sister Helen Prejean or what capital punishment is. Unfortunately, her story was so full of euphuisms and omissions; I wouldn't be surprised if she was offended by it. Please READ her book, it won't only break your heart; it will crack your soul. | |

As a little girl growing up in Chicago. I remember Bill Kurtis anchoring the news. After awhile he was gone. I often wondered where did he go. I grew up with a father who came to be highly respected as one of the best voice narrators in Canada..Newsweek magazine once said"one of the ten best in North America".

I just returned from one of my frequent trips to Kansas to visit cousins in Hutch, and one in Independence, KS who works at Little House on the Prairie. I read what your family did to restore it, and it's a fabulous place to visit. I've visited KS frequently my entire life and I have many fond memories. It's like "old home week" every time I go back. While in Independence, we took a tour of the fabulous old homes - the McBride house is being restored and is sure to be quite a site when it's done. We also saw the buildings belonging to the "dueling bankers". The town is indeed rich with history. Additionally, I thoroughly enjoy your television work. It goes to show that the good guy does win. I appreciate the work you do - please do keep it up. I look forward to seeing more of you and your shows. Perhaps the next time I'm in KS I'll have the opportunitiy to wave hello. Take care! | |

I CAN REMEMBER IF MY FACTS ARE CORRECT, THAT MR KURTIS RISKED HIS LIFE TO SAVE HIS FELLOW TOPEKANS ON JUNE 8, 1966, BY NOT ONLY STAYING ON THE AIR FOR THE 24 HOURS BUT ALSO TELLING PEOPLE TO TAKE COVER THAT THIS WAS SERIOUS. NOT ONLY DID HIS PLEAS SAVE PEOPLE BUT THE FACT THAT THE TORNADO HIT JUST SHORTLY AFTER 7 IN THE EVENING OF THAT DAY WAS A MIRACLE IN ITSELF. SO FEW PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES BECAUSE THE COMMUTE HOME FROM WORK WAS OVER FOR M0ST PEOPLE AND THE ELDERLY HAD YET TO GET READY FOR BED. I HAD JUST TURNED 11 ON APRIL 19, 1966, LIVED ABOUT 4 MILES OR SO STRAIGHT EAST OF WHERE IT HIT THE NEW HOUSING AT 29TH AND BURLINGAME ROAD AND AFTER IT QUIT RAINING SO HARD YOU COULDN'T SEE PAST THE SIDEWALK AT THE LEWIS AND LONG FURNITURE STORE(IF MY MEMORY IS CORRECT, MY FAMILY LOOKED STRAIGHT WEST OF WHERE WE WERE AND SAW THE ROOFS OF THE HOUSING SWIRLING AROUND IN THE BIGGEST, BLACKEST TORNADO KANSAS MAY HAD HAD UP UNTIL THE ANDOVER TORNADO ON APRIL 26, 1991. TOPEKA OWES MR KURTIS A BIG DEBT OF GRATITUDE FOR WHAT HE DID. WHEN THEY TOOK HIM OFF THE AIR AT THE END OF HIS COVERAGE, HE HAD GLASS AND DIRT AND OTHER THINGS IMBEDDED UNDER HIS SKIN WHERE HE HAS STOOD OUTSIDE BY BURNETT'S MOUND(I BELIEVE THAT IS THE PLACE). CHIEF BURNETT HAS SAID THAT AS LONG AS THE MOUND WAS NOT DISTURBED, TOPEKA WOULD BE SAFE FROM TORNADOES. BUT THE CITY OF TOPEKA BUILT A HUGE WATER STORAGE TANK ON THE MOUND.
